  1. Thank you for your suggestions! Yes, I'm worried about disembarkation... madhouse with Uber as well as Enterprise. I've read stories on having a pre-reserved Uber and the drivers cancelled on you opting for a longer, more $$ pickup. So, the Enterprise shuttle does run but has long waits? Royal does have an expensive excursion over $200US/pp and it only gives you a few hours at the Space Centre...having a car gives more flexibility. Our flights are the next day, so we were planning to drop off the car back at IAH and stay at an airport hotel for 1 night.
  2. Thanks for sharing your great experience with Enterprise. We're still trying to work out the logistics of getting to/from our cruise... not easy!
  3. How was the service at Enterprise? Did they have a shuttle to take you to the port? Long waits? Our plans....Embarkation- taking Galveston Limo or Galveston Express from IAH to the port.( or any other shuttle recommendations?) On disembarkation - Reserving a 1-way car rental(Costco Travel Canada) from Enterprise (to go the Space Center and explore Houston) and returning the car to IAH that evening. The google reviews are are mixed for Enterprise... long waits, no cars, no pickup service as advertised? Won't the Enterprise shuttles be dropping off guests who returned rentals at the port and picking up guests for car rentals run constantly all of Sun morning? How is the service for Enterprise? Any advice appreciated! Thanks!
  4. We wanted to rent a car at Enterprise on Sunday after disembarking as we're staying in Houston post-cruise and return the car to IAH the next day. Do you know if the shuttle pick-ups at the port to bring you to Enterprise? There are conflicting reviews about Enterprise... no shuttle, poor service, no cars although you had a reservation. Any advice appreciated. Thank you!
  5. Hi Laurie! Just found your live thread. I love your writing style and enjoying your live. We are fellow Canadians from the west coast, BC joining you on this TA. I love the bonus Disneyworld. The last time we were there were when our kids were teenagers... so many new sights. We will definitely have to visit DW soon. Enjoy the rest of the week at Disney and we will see you aboard!
  6. Hello fellow Canadian! That is bizarre.. flying all the way west and then backtracking to fly back east. We are from the west coast, BC. We are flying to Miami via Westjet and have to fly NORTH to Calgary on leg 1, then back SOUTH to ATL then MIA. Since Westjet changed to make Calgary its major hub, I find most flights have to go thru Calgary 1st for a layover and change of planes. WJ used to fly direct YVR-LGW, now stopover in Calgary. 😥 Anyway safe travels and see you on board!
  7. I thought you had to make reservations on board to use the Diamond+ BOGO. Do you book in advance on the cruiser planner for 2 people paying for it and then once on board, tell the restaurant that you want to use the BOGO and ask for a refund of the 2nd person? Thanks
  8. I did just that!… booked Allure just to see Mamma Mia… saw it twice… an excellent production! Book Allure to see Mamma… you will love the show.
  9. On our last 2 Alaska cruises, on Radiance and Brilliance, in Juneau we always dock at the furthest dock from town. Holland America, Princess, Celebrity get the berths closest to town. So if Royal always books a berth last, that’s why they get the furthest dock from town? I thought Princess pays more to get the dock right in town.
  10. Lol… great minds think alike… Delos was my idea too😉 DH and our 2 friends also thoroughly enjoyed Delos as well.
  11. We did this except we took the 1st ferry over and had time to see the windmills without the crowds. We then went on our Delos guided tour…amazing! Afterwards, we had plenty of time for lunch and explore the town before catching the ferry back to the ship
  12. Last year, we did DYI land trip visiting Vietnam,Malaysia, Jakarta, Siem Reap and Bali. Yes….Friendly people, delicious cheap food and beautiful scenery, sites… Angkor Wat was amazing! Spent a week in Bali…relaxed on the beaches and visited the beautiful waterfalls, temples on the island. Absolutely agree…. Although we love cruising, there are some places in the world that you can’t cruise to and land trips are great. Enjoy Bali!
  13. We cruised out of Singapore last year. We arrived at the port with our tagged luggage. There was 2 lines to drop off luggage. 1. Guests with luggage with already tagged luggage and 2. Guests that needed luggage tags. There was only a few guests in tagged luggage. We were able to quickly drop off our luggage and proceed to checkin. The line up for guests needing luggage tags was long. In NA and EU ports, luggage drop off is easy with or without tags as porters with tags are readily available. Singapore port handled luggage drop off differently.
  14. Thank you so much for the info! We have never sailed out of Galveston. I was reading a CC thread from 2022 which worried me. https://boards.cruisecritic.com.au/topic/2886759-sailing-out-of-galveston…/ Glad to hear that the ships "NOW will move in the fog" and that you have cruised every January with no delayed/late docking due to fog.
  15. We're thinking of booking a cruise next January. We would have to fly out of IAH in the afternoon after disembarkation as we have another cruise booked the next day. How often are cruise ships delayed in docking due to fog? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!
  16. Also looking into options IAH to Galveston Cruise port…Uber, Galveston Shuttle, Galveston Express or any other shuttle services(besides RC shuttle)? Uber seems the most convenient..how is Uber cost wise for 2 people? Has anyone used Uber IAH to Galveston return? I read Ubers are in short supply on disembarkation day at the port and Uber drivers have cancelled reservations + surge pricing, so leary of using Uber to IAH. TIA
  17. That’s a possibility. We also tried our Ipad to checkin in on royalcaribbean.com, but kept getting the spinning anchor logo thing and couldn’t log in. It may have been the wifi… it was slow on the ship. Agree…. Royals IT is an endless mystery 😂
  18. I’ve always checked in at midnight in the time zone the ship leaves from and have had no problems. In my case checkin was 12amEST and it was12amEST on the ship. I was ready waiting for the app to say checkin open and when it did, I tried to checkin and after a few minutes was given set sail passes without “checking in” and without the option of selecting a checkin time..was assigned 1pm. I could see others posting 10:30 times on FB while I was trying to refresh the app.
  19. I had a weird checkin incident 2 wks ago. We were aboard Allure and ready to checkin for our next cruise in April. We had wifi… I was on the app when checkin said open at about 12:10 am. After refreshing the app multiple times, a set sail pass appeared with a checkin time of 1pm. But I never entered any info or had the screen pop up to select my checkin time. So went down to GS to ask if they ever heard of this.. getting a set sail pass without checking in. GS agent said “ you can’t checkin for another cruise while aboard a cruise… something to do with IT”. How did we get set sail passes without entering any info to check in?? We went to the concierge lounge in the morning to use the desktop computer… logged in, entered info and picked 11:30. The set sail pass on my app immediately changed from 1pm to 11:30. I’ve never had issues checking in before, but I’ve always checked in from home. On the other social media site, people were posting checkin times of 10:30 just after 12am, so no issues checking in “on land” Was the GS agent correct or is it Royal’s IT problems again? Has this happened to anyone else?
  20. What is the best, most reliable way return trip IAH to Galveston Cruise port…Uber, Galveston Shuttle, Galveston Express or any other shuttle services ? I read Ubers are in short supply on disembarkation day at the port and Uber drivers have cancelled reservations, so a little leary of using Uber. We have a flight at 3pm. TIA
  21. We had dined at Wonderland on Odyssey. I agree… we thought Jamie’s was the best of the three too.
  22. We were on the same cruise and dined at Hook's for lunch. My DH had the fresh-shucked and baked oysters and thought they both were very good. I had the soft-shell crab, clam and crab chowder. I had never eaten soft-shell crab before, so I'm not sure what to expect, but I thought they were tasty. The clam chowder was so thick and too creamy...too much cream = too many calories and there were hardly any clams or chunks of crab meat. We both had the lobster roll which we thought was ok. The roll was quite small with small chunks of lobster. I guess I'm comparing it to the best lobster roll we've had at Luke's Lobster in Portland, ME. Desserts: cherry pie and decadent chocolate brownie were ok. On a side note, we also dined at Jamie's for lunch. Food and service was excellent. Starters:the meat plank, calamari were very good. The garlic buns were the best! Prawn linguine also very good. The pan-roasted salmon was very good...perfectly cooked and the portion was huge. Dessert: cheesecake and mango gelato topped off a delicious meal. Definitely will do lunch at Jamie's again.
  23. I had the same thing happen.... I definitely put the date/ship/reservation # in subject line and got an auto-response saying the request will not be looked at without the date/ship/reservation # in the subject line...it was sent correctly! I resent the exact same email request twice and finally got the normal auto response(that I have received in the past) that they will send the request to the ship. Not sure what happened?... IT glitches?
  24. Agree… us too. Since we don’t use all of our vouchers up, we ask our room steward what beers, ciders he/she likes and will leave them for them in the cabin
  25. This! ...we might not like the new location. Location is important to us. I picked and like the cabin location for a Central Park balcony. We have enjoyed sailing in a CP balcony before. Although an OV balcony would be nice, I'm hesitant to bid for an OV balcony as we may get a cabin location that we're not as happy with. Plus it's a short 4 day cruise. For ships with obstructed view balconies (Quantum class), would you most likely be assigned an obstructed view with RoyalUp bidding?
