Don't know where you get your info but on 15 cruises I've never needed anything you listed. Bring money, your paperwork, and 2 swimsuits

We were on the 2/2 sailing and returned from St.Maarten in 3 days of very rough seas. We did not think the Quantum was stable and it definitely was very creaky. Everyone is different but overall, we did not enjoy the cruise

25% higher than I would have estimated but you didn't include souvenirs

Talked to my TA today; said he could knock off 10%. That's 10% from Avalon, 5% for being a past guest, and 10% from the TA. Think that's the way we'll go for 2016 plus book 4-5 days in Paris on our own.
-
My plan was to go thru my TA. Usually get 9-10% off on ocean cruises. Is that reasonable for a river cruise?
-
Thanks for your response. Think i'll

The TV works fine

No, a very crowded ship; lines everywhere, especially the Windjammer at breakfast.

We have been on one river cruise, the Danube on Avalon, and enjoyed it greatly. We are now looking to book Paris to Normandy. After talking to cruisers on other lines, we realize that the major cruise lines all provide a very similar product. My question is this - are prices on Avalon, AMA, Viking, etc. all close or are some getting a premium? We are familiar with ocean cruising where prices can widely vary.
Thanks in advance

We also like to be close to the elevators

When we travel it's just the 2 of us, so hard for me to respond to specific prices. However, we find that Carnival is generally about 10% less for comparable cruises.

It's a great cruise but a pain to fly out of San Juan. Re. the drink package, you need to figure how much you will drink, everyone is different

Thanks for all the responses. I will contact HAL through our TA to inquire about adding 1 night at the Westmark. Seems like the prices at most of the decent hotels are high.

Hi everyone,
We are experienced cruisers but this is our first time to Alaska and first time on HAL. We are doing the August 26, 2015 land and cruise tour into the Yukon for 15 days - land first.
Our question involves staying 1 night pre-cruise in Anchorage since we can't get there from the East coast until late in the evening. Since the HAL Westmark hotel is $300/night, our plan is to stay near the Anchorage airport the night of 8/25 and take a cab on 8/26 to the Westmark to start the land portion of the cruise. This would give us some time to rest up before starting the busy land tour
Any comments or advice on this plan would be greatly appreciated,
Bob

Been searching the boards but can't an answer. If I book a standard balcony room for a 14 night Caribbean cruise onboard my upcoming February cruise, do I get an OBC in addition to the 123go promotion? and how much is the OBC?
Thanks
-
Yes. OBC and a category upgrade.
Is there a table that lists the obc amounts for various cabin types/ cruise lengths?
Thanks in advance

This becomes especially annoying when you have made reservations online and already paid for the dinner you are waiting on line to have!!
It was every performance, actually we were never even able to get in to see Starwater.
I know what there planned solution is, I am like a mind reader. Charge $50 a seat to limit traffic as a favor to us. That's how brewed charged coffee bars were originally introduced. Extra pay restaurants, paid ice cream, automatic tips on account, prepaid gratuities, etc all started the same way, as a SERVICE for us. They are doing YOU a favor. Now they have it down to fresh orange juice $4.
Now the price of my bridge in Brooklyn, contact me.....
If cruising
George in NY
If cruising is that annoying to you why not find another type of vacation ? Doesn't do any good to come on Cruise Critic and whine.

If you don't Like the overall experience on Quantum, don't sail on her again. There are hundreds of wonderful cruise ships available and each line offers different features. Why fret over trying to make Quantum something that it is not.
-
The Windjammer can be annoying at certain times. On port days finding an empty table for an 8:30 breakfast can be a real challenge, almost as bad as lunch on Day 1. At these times you realize that you are on a mass market cruise line. My personal opinion is the Windjammer is undersized on RCCL ships

Great review, thanks. We're on the 2/2 sailing and appreciate all the useful info (and your positive outlook).

Volendam entered drydock in Singapore yesterday (8th December).
Go to Marine Traffic -
http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/home
and type in Volendam under the vessels dropdown.
Cheers,
Avsec
We are taking our first HAL cruise on the Volendam next August. Anyone know what work is scheduled for this 2-week dry dock
Thanks in advance
