  1. Thank you for this great information!!!!

1221 is not a 1A it is a PT. You will have portholes to look out, a sofa, and a king sized bed. Bit of a walk to a lot of things, glass elevators don't go down to first floor but the regular ones do. Very convenient when getting on/off the ship in ports. May hear some waves crashing against the hull, but it doesn't bother a lot of people. Can be rocky in rough seas. Fingers crossed it won't happen.

1426 is a 1A. I included pictures of because I stayed in it. It was nice for one person as I didn't have to worry about the bunk. No sofa but a lot of room. It was nice to be by the elevators, but the wall where your head is is the steward's closet. They are up early and he parked the cart along the hall against the wall. You hear every time they talk to someone. No problem if you're a morning person. I'm not. It's a "sideways room". I liked it. Would stay there again but not my first choice.

2207 is a 1A. My mom and sister stayed in 2202 which they loved the layout (different than the room you're considering) but the did hear a ton of noise from the waves on the hull. My sister was a little unnerved saying it sounded like bombs going off. I didn't believe her until I heard it for myself. I called it the "Gong Show" room. I would have been absolutely cranky if I had to put up with that the whole cruise. I am a light sleeper and awaken easily.

I was originally booked in 2208 but changed cabins when 1426 opened up. I had been far forward like that before and remembered the shuddering and in case of rough seas I didn't want to be way up there. I would stay there if it meant being on the ship or not.

Free upgrades will show as available when you do a mock booking ie: location or deck. They will show as "Included" when looking at rooms instead of for an additional fee. 1As are rarely included in the free upgrade promotions as they are their own little category. Yes, they are technically inside rooms but they are all rated the same. No extra charges for location, deck, the ones with portholes, or the 3 with a king sized bed (2 twins put together).

The sofa bed is the top of the sofa. They did put an eggcrate without asking on it for my sister. It was comfy. I passed out on it after a day at Mr Sanchos in Cozumel :D. My mom thought it felt better on her back than the bed so they switched after a couple nights.

I would go with the PT room - 1221.

  2. I love the suggestions. Thanks.

I am now thinking between these two on the Liberty five day:

    Option 1

    Location: Forward

    Deck: Riviera

    Room: 1221

Two twin beds (convert to king) and single sofa bed. Sofa and coffee table. Desk and seat. Full bathroom with shower. 3 closets. Two porthole windows.

    Option 2 (8 bucks less a day)

    Location: AFT

    Deck: Riviera

Room: 1426 (one twin one pulldown)

same price there is 2207 Riviera, very forward but with twin and sofa bed.. how are the sofa beds?

Now the VIFP deal says free upgrades. What does that mean exactly?

  3. Hi all! Winter blues, need a vacation. Just want to get away in late April. Budget vacation. Be on water, drinks, somebody else cook, go to two ports, beaches, etc. I've always done ocean view and balconies but looking to travel on a budget and can't beat a good deal out of Galveston for Interior Upper/Lower at $369pp on Carnival Liberty (although the calendar thing shows $319 which is never an option). It's a EARLY SAVER – EXCLUSIVE VIFP CLUB OFFER with reduced deposit, free upgrades, etc.

What are your thoughts on upper/lower staterooms.

    Thanks in advance.

  4. Getting a group together for a cruise is a large undertaking whether large or small. I have attempted to do it several times formally using Carnival and a TA, with me being the point person, which turned out be be more of a headache than I can describe. The first few cruises we informally discussed the plans during the holidays or family get togethers, to see what cruise lines, itineraries, dates, etc, everyone would be interested in, then we finalize a date, and one or two of us book the cruise and let the others know. Now, those who have cruise the most grab the cruise itinerary/schedule while onboard on a Sea Day on Ocean Plaza, and decide before the end of the cruise for the next one. We then either book onboard, or book when we return once we go over work and school schedules for the next year. We also use social media to get the word out to other family members and friends which is the easiest way for us. We don't use the group booking either, we let everyone book through our PVP or on Carnival.com. The veteran cruisers usually walk everyone through the process with the best promotions/discounts, etc. This has worked out great for us, with what will be our third cruise doing it this way. Everyone we cruise with is pretty travel savvy, with making their own arrangements which also helps. We do a lot of things together as a group, along with planning events onboard, events before the cruise, door signs, etc. We haven't gone as far as t-shirts yet though. Hope everything works out with your planning. Also, most of us select Early Saver Rates, which has resulted in upgrades from IS to BL, BL to suites (nominal cost), along with some nice OBC's.

Excellent ideas. I am going to go with the sailing our core group wants to do and then let others know via social media. Then let folks know the details so they can book on their own.

  5. Probably on my third breakfast, my fifth cup of coffee, dressed in my bathing suit and cover-up, ready to walk the deck or just relax in one of the many deck chairs on board. Probably also thinking of a food strategy for my yet-to-be-determined fourth breakfast.

    Third breakfast! I love it.

  6. You can book ahead of time in the personalizer (and the prices are shown) however I would show up to the spa after you board and ask for any specials. We went to the spa raffle and they offered everyone in attendance a special massage deal that in my opinion was too good to pass up.

  7. I have set up several group cruises over the years. Usually what I do is find a few cruise options and send the info out to the people I know for sure are going to go on the cruise.

We then choose the cruise we want to take and I either set up a group cruise with travel agent or carnival if I know we will get 8 cabins booked OR I just make out a flyer of sorts and email that out to friends/family who may be interested and they forward them to whomever they think would like to join us.

We just booked a group cruise for next March. We only had 6 cabins booked and we are up to 10 now. So worked out well! Where I booked the cruise through set up a link to forward to anyone we chose with information on the cruise and how to register to book. It was easy peasy!

    Hope that helps a bit??

Thanks for those ideas. On the cruise that had a link, did you get that from Carnival or a travel agent?

  8. Do you complete the survey and what insights do you pay particular care of sharing?

I started to input some details about our dinner at Sabatini's and the survey noted there was another place to input.. so I stopped and the bam I got to the end of the survey without providing that info. I was disappointed I could not go back and enter that feedback.

  9. I am planning a 40th birthday party but I don't have a number of staterooms set... this is really in idea formation stages. I also don't think I will meet the 8 stateroom minimum for Carnival's group sales. I might have 8 state rooms after I send out an email but I really doubt it. Years ago Carnival used to have a website where you could set this up and send links to folks but I could not find it.

Any ideas on how to do this? Or how would you go about it?

    Here's some facts:

*The actual birthday is August 16

*Looking to leave out of Galveston.. this would be better for most of the group

*Considering dates after 8/20 due to price drops and I have noticed lots of schools starting up on 8/24 (there's a 8/20, 8/23, 8/24)

*Combination of first time cruisers and past cruisers and also different price points due to budgets (inside, oceanview, suite will be used).

*I am looking to send out an email to the possible attendees with links to the different sailing options.

*Will need booking ideas. I probably will need to have all bookings linked together (or not?)

    Thanks for any ideas.

  10. Scotch egg! Breaded prawns! Oh my. Loved it on the Emerald recently but just had the basics... fish and chips, bangers and mash and something else.

    But those whipped peas. YEEK!
