They both have state of the art medical facilities.

They both have/had people onboard year round...or were you under the impression that the Royal family is onboard all by themselves? If so,  Here’s a quarter,  buy a clue.

Anyone with a brain can read our little exchange - wherein you compare the conditions for general passengers on a 4500+ mega cruise ship with those on board the Royal Yacht Britannia - and decide for themselves who is lacking a clue.

Wow! Well, I guess that's one way of putting the waiter in his place, isn't it?

I did have occasion to correct/dispute what a waiter was indicating to me about the SDP meal, however, I simply advised them, "I think you're getting my Platinum meal confused with this SDP dinner."  There were no add'l charges.

I wouldn't waste a second of the waiter's time with it. The second he/she tried to give me that line, I'd immediately ask for a manager and this is what I'd say to them.

This has been an ongoing discussion, particularly around Cagney's.

The discussion in Cagney's would end with me saying, "What you are saying is contrary to the stated Terms & Conditions, and the restrictions you are describing are not written in any official public NCL document. The manager does not have the discretion to set policies that contradict NCL's own T&C. If this is going to continue, I will be calling the hotel manager directly."

I just booked a gty balcony on the Jade last week for a Med cruise in October.  I really did not except to get a cabin assignment until a little later, after all the upgrading was finished.  They say it could be up to 2 days before the cruise.  But they did immediately assign us the most forward cabin on deck 8.  I think it is a hull balcony (which I don’t think we will mind), above the theater and I assume the anchor noise could be a problem.  We were hoping for better, but it is a port intensive cruise, so it probably will be fine.  Has anyone even had their gty assignment changed by NCL sometime before cruise date?

Only time I had it changed was when I booked an Inside Sailaway and they assigned me a Studio.

The seafood night is a joke.

It was good on the Escape. No you're not getting lobster, but there are piles and piles of pretty good quality cocktail shrimp, muscles, grilled salmon. I was impressed. It felt like a rare instance of NCL just saying "screw it, lets spend some money here to make the guests feel a little special."

Contrast that with seafood night on the Getaway, which did feel like something they were doing grudgingly. Fishy shrimp you had to peel and de-vein yourself...like they wanted you to eat as few of them as possible.

I was wondering about that myself. Not sure what difference it makes regarding suite vs nonsuite.

She thinks she's a high roller. Also mentioned how she'd just booked a suite the month before. Her line about "good luck with that" if security shows up to stop her little party suggests she thinks the Suite Life means "do whatever you want."

It would have been more dangerous inside the cabin then outside for obvious reasons. Also there are no balconies below deck 9 aft on the away ships so that’s a moot point and the 3 cabins beside me were all my friends and family.

No one was disturbed and strangers from the suite above decided to join in the fun, as others have commented those are the kind of people I prefer to meet on cruises instead of people that have their heads up their own butts just looking to encroach their boring holier then thou attitudes on other people’s fun.

How about the OTHER cabins above you that maybe wanted to enjoy the sounds of the ocean without having to deal with a friggin' pinata party underneath their feet?

Speaking of toys, we actually made more noise laughing when I wrote rules on a Giant Jenga game we used on the balcony......and the irony of it all was one person in the suite above us upstairs asked if they could join in so we invited their entire cabin down to play.

FYI a worker stored the game in his cabin so I would not have to carry it back and forth since we had the same suite the following month so it obviously was not a problem.

I find the only complainers are the ones on here so I take it from where it comes which brings me back to my comment about some people not being happy unless they are complaining.

Notice how she doesn't engage the substance of the reasonable claim about violating personal space...oh to live in your own special precious little world like that. Must be fun.

You just think you can do whatever you want because you book suites.

As exciting as the ping pong match over pinatas is ...

    back to the OP:

Fishing off the balcony is not acceptable behavior.

For those of you who don't understand why:  at the very least, understand this concept:  the line that extends off that balcony extends beyond your space.   You are not entitled to infringe on other people's space.   That is before you get to any of the concerns about what will you do if you catch one.  Assuming you can get it all the way back up to your balcony without it swinging into anyone else's balcony, what in God's name are you planning on doing with the fish?

But again, for all you people who are having a hard time comprehending why the fishing behavior bothers some of us, you just need to understand the concept that you and your family and your toys and your behavior have no right to infringe on other people's space.

Music:  playing music on your balcony is not OK...the music can be heard by other people, and you don't have the right to infringe on their space.

Pinata:  gathering a bunch of people on you balcony to have a little party that involves cheering, clapping, screaming:  not OK.  Hanging a pinata from some part of the ship not intended for that?  Also not OK, but just stick to the infringment argument if the other concepts aren't clear.

Other things (observed on board) not OK because of the same concept of infringement (because people seem to have a hard time understanding)
    Loudly swearing
    Drunkenly stumbling into strangers
Arguing loudly in hallway with your spouse and sharing TMI about your sex life
Lettting children run screaming through the corridors
Drawing flocks of seagulls to the boat by feeding them from the boat

A cruise ship is a wonderful, special, and small space you are sharing with 1,000s of other people.  By choosing to cruise, you are choosing to change your behavior so that you don't negatively impact others.  If you can't change your behavior, and your behavior is one that infringes on others, you are the one who needs to choose a different vacation, not me.

God bless you. I hope you're on my next NCL cruise.

Though according to some people in this thread, you must be "miserable."

If the couple of things ( fishing pole, piñata) truly bother you, even though it's hard to believe they can have that big of affect on people.

Neither of those would I think of doing , it's just NOT that big of a deal. There are far, far bigger issues in life than those.

Nothing about being civilized, more about others having a different approach/ideas about life and having fun.

If that's how you rationalize your boorish behavior, then good for you.
