UPDATE:  I just called to try and make reservations for the specialty dining rooms......AND THERE ARE NO SLOTS AVAILABLE LEFT.......IN ANY OF THE RESTAURANTS until 9:45PM!!!!!!   Which is not an option for my husband and me.   I was trying to be opened minded....NOW I am just ticked off!!!

Relax. There will be tons of reservations available once you board, and the concierge will help you if those fill up too.

  2. I literally could not have less sympathy for the people complaining about no Haven restaurant in this thread.

You're getting breakfast and lunch in Cagney's, which is a lovely, classy space and will only be accessible to other Haven passengers. I don't think you'll get lice from the commoners in steerage by having to walk an extra 3 minutes to get your petit filet with eggs.

We got a BX on Breakaway ... it is one of the large balconies far forward maybe on deck 8.  I understand you are on a different ship, but BXs do exist.

I said as much in my initial post.

"The Gem doesn't have have any balconies that are actually BX categories (like the 4 on the Breakaway-class ships)"

  4. Do you like an intolerably crowded pool deck, a spillover crowd that will ruin the once-quiet Waterfront, no free Adults Only area with no SpiceH20, no outside views from the front of the ship unless you're in the Haven, an observation lounge full of sleeping chair hogs that resembles a disaster relief shelter, and a giant up-charge needed for access to huge swaths of the formerly public upper sundeck that is now a giant 2-story Vibe?

If so you'll love the Encore!

Doesn't BX mean it is a guarantee category?

If so then I suspect that this is your allocation and it is unlikely to be changed again (although I've never booked a guarantee, so I'm not sure of the rules).

Yeah but if I was assigned to a B2 cabin, why wouldn't it say 8524 (B2) instead of 8524 (BX).

BX is usually the category you have for a sailaway/guarantee booking while your final assignment is still pending - hence my confusion.

Gem is expected by some due to empirical evidence to go in to dry dock some time in 2020 after which re-categorizing of staterooms would be common.  The Gem Deck Plans graphic currently shows two layouts, one before October 30, 2020 and another after that date.  Is your itinerary sooner than that?  The stateroom I have booked in January 2021 is listed as a BA.  But that same stateroom is a BB according to that graph.

    I sail next Friday.

  7. So I just upgraded to a balcony (yay).

I got assigned to 8524 on the Gem, which is a B2 balcony. However under my account, it's listed as a BX balcony. The Gem doesn't have have any balconies that are actually BX categories (like the 4 on the Breakaway-class ships), so does this mean I could still get some other final assignment? I've upgraded a few times in the past but never to a BX category.

Queenofzoom I don’t care about lack of deck space, having to pay for a Vibe Pass, Go Kart, Laser tag or speciality dining or any other options that I may have to pay for.

I am not going on a cruise to sunbathe like 90 percent of people who comment in here do.

I am going on a cruise for the awesome entertainment, food and dining options, to meet new people from around the world and visit spectacular new places and beaches on the port shore excursions.

If I want to sunbathe I’ll do it on my excursions when I visit private beaches and islands.

Yes this is my first cruise but I know what I want and have no issue paying for it.

Also If I want to chill and watch the sea I can do that from my balcony with no issues.

I can literally picture Frank Del Rio rubbing his nipples while reading this

  9. Using your analogy about dining to defend this...

...it's the equivalent of NCL only serving spam in the MDR and the buffet. What's to argue about? They're providing free food! It's YOU choice if you want to pay more in a specialty restaurant for something palatable.

So yes, they ARE providing free deck space! Sure it's a tiny fraction of what is available on comparable ships and will be so overcowded I really do think fights will break out, but it's YOUR choice if you want to pay for access to other parts of the ship for a better experience. Freestyle, baby!

  10. What am I "having a hard time comprehending?"

What don't you understand about the fact you're just giving NCL your money earlier if you buy more than 2, without any additional benefit other than having to spend less when you book the next cruise?

4 amazon gift certificates for $500 total is no better a deal than 2 certificates for $250 total.

I don’t understand your reasoning at all.

I would certainly avoid buying just one voucher, as the discount is less than 50% in that case. However, if you are buying then in multiples of 2 then it is a 50% discount on however many you buy.

When you come to using them, you effectively lose out if you don’t use as many as you are allowed to spend. If you just use one voucher you effectively save $125 off your fare, but if you use 2 then you save $250. There is your financial incentive.

Thats why I always keep a few certificates, available on my account.

What don't you understand? You said it yourself, you don't get any savings beyond getting them in pairs.

So just buy one pair per cruise. If I buy two pairs I don't save any more money. I just have to spend less at the time of booking my next cruise because I spent more on the previous one.
