  1. I had a similar experience in that I have a cruise that is paid in full, but when I went to explore transfers on Celebrity’s website, it wound up repricing our cruise and saying we owed over $3500. A call to Celebrity cleared it up quickly, but I’m now honestly afraid to touch anything for fear I’ll happen again. Difference of course is that I wasn’t asked to confirm anything…glad you dodged a bullet.
  2. We did an August inside passage cruise many years ago on Infinity and had an aft cabin. We were excited to have the big balcony, but the rainy weather kept us indoors for much of the cruise. One amazing thing was when we went into Glacier Bay. Our view was unbelievable and we were happy to have it. We had a storm blow through near Skagway, and nearly got bounced out of our bed as the side thrusters turned the ship when they realized it would be too dangerous to attempt docking in the high seas. IMO there’s more motion in the aft cabins on M-class ships than E-class, and there were times on Infinity we could feel the vibration of the engines while underway, on deck 8. Also note that even when the sun is out, the veranda can be fairly cold from the wind of the ship while underway. This is where an aft cabin can be an advantage. August and September tend to be very rainy in Alaska, so you’ll want to plan for that strong possibility.
  3. We were on deck 11 on Edge and loved it! Great location as it was a bit closer to the pool deck, but below the Sunset Bar enough to not be bothered by it.
  4. You’ll have more possibilities for rain as August can be quite rainy. Just come prepared for it and you’ll have a great time.
  5. We were in a sunset veranda on Edge (and years ago on Infinity) and won’t cruise in any other cabin!!! So relaxing watching the wake and the people watching in ports was the best. We were on deck 11 on Edge and had no problem with soot or noise of any kind. I’d avoid being above Eden or right below the Sunset Bar for potential noise. Definitely a long walk, but it helped us get our steps in. 😉 We have a Sunset Sky suite booked for our next Beyond cruise and can’t wait!
  6. Keep in mind that there is not one MDR, but instead 3 smaller restaurants. I’ve never liked the big MDRs on ships, and we loved the 4 smaller dining rooms so much on Edge that we won’t cruise on anything but an Edge class ship. We will also booked our next cruise on Beyond and can’t wait. My husband wears “nice” jeans sometimes in the evenings and it’s never been a problem in any of the dining areas.
  7. We had an aft balcony when we did our Alaska cruise and I wouldn’t do Alaska without one! The views you get from these cabins while cruising through the inside passage are basically 180 degrees, and you can see both sides of the channel simply by standing at your railing. If you’re going to Glacier Bay, the expansive view simply can’t be beat. you’ll walk further to things, but it’s a great way to get your steps in. Don’t forget to bring layers of clothing, Alaska weather can vary greatly.
