  1. We just returned on Saturday from a cruise onboard the Triumph. We had a fantastic time. The weather was beautiful althought ist was a bit foggy as we left Galveston. In Progresso we visited Uxmal Mayan Ruins and it was breathtaking if you're into that sort of thing, I would highly recommend it to you. In Cozumel, we hired a driver to take us on a tour of the island, we saw so much in a short time we visited Coconuts for a quick drink and appetizer and took lots of photos of that awesome view.

The Triumph is not the newest or even the fanciest ship afloat but we had an amazing time and are already looking forward to booking another quick getaway.

  2. We felt so bad for everyone yesterday! Waiting to get off ships, the waiting to get on ships and for sure all those with missed flights.

To all waiting, hang in there!!

We went down to the pier area yesterday and it was a little depressing looking at the faces of folks waiting to board the ships.

We walked along the Strand and checked out some shops, met some nice people and found great ice cream.

We are at the Courtyard Marriott guess we will grab some breakfast and take a morning walk along the seawall

Guess we will see you onboard.

  3. I'm not the OP, but was on the Magic last year and found the special number useful. The light bulb was not working in our bathroom when we got in. I kept calling guest services but nobody ever answered. I called all the other numbers that I thought might work (room steward hotline, housekeeping, etc.) but just could not get through to anybody. I was beginning to think my phone was broken. Then I called the special number, somebody answered right away and sent a repairman right away. Then the FTTF dept called afterwards to make sure it was fixed and we received another call later in the week surveying how useful he found FTTF.

    We loved it.

Shame on the staff, its unfortunate that you had to go to such lengths to get that done. That was a $50 service call basically

  4. We were in Cozumel on January 25, 2014 and had arranged for a car and driver with Tours Plaza. We were fortunate to have Marco as our driver. He was excellent! There were just the two of us and we were picked up in a full size, air conditioned van at the cruise port.

Marco took us anywhere we wanted to go, so we started out in town and viewed the various monuments. We wanted to buy vanilla, so he took us into a local grocery store and helped us pick out and pay for four bottles. Then we visited and toured the tequila factory followed by the chocolate factory. From there we went to San Gervasio (the main reason for our trip). The ruins now cost US$9 ($5 + $4) to enter. As has been mentioned, guides are optional but we wanted to explore on our own. We did encounter a bit of a hard-sell by the guides, but told them no thanks. Also, as has been mentioned, be sure to wear walking shoes as the paths to several of the ruins are a bit rough. Of course bug spray is pretty much a requirement too. We then asked Marco to recommend a locals restaurant for lunch. He took us to a place that he enjoys and we asked him to join us for lunch. The meal was OK but not great. I would not eat there again. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the establishment. Marco is an excellent guide and knows much about Mayan history and culture. His English is good and he is studying French. We enjoyed our time with him very much. I cannot recommend Marco more highly.

Another glowing review of Marco, I'm really excited to meet him.

  5. I just got off the Triumph yesterday. My biggest hangups with traffic flow are:

    • Photographers and backdrops taking up an ever-increasing width of the Promenade deck in the evenings.
    • Putting in Guy's Burgers and Blue Iguana seems to have decreased the size of the passageway leading into the main Lido restaurant. Traffic really bottlenecks here, especially when people are stopped at the adjacent beverage stations. I wasn't on the Triumph before the 2.0 upgrade but am comparing this to what I remember on sister ship Victory several years ago.
    • Traffic also bottlenecks horribly at the drink stations next to the main Lido restaurant serving lines. It's really a horrible place to have people stopping for drinks amid (1) traffic going between the front and back of the ship, (2) people lined up for the buffet, and (3) people going between the buffet and the tables, or just wandering aimlessly looking for open tables.

We were on the Triumph in October and I have to agree that the photographers really have the route to the Paris Dining Room congested. We found it to be a little anoying but nothing that would stop us from cruising on Triumph again. In fact, we'll be on the Triumph in a couple of weeks.

  6. We have sailed on the Triumph twice. our first time was out of NOLA and once out of Galveston this past Halloween. We had such a good time we are booked back on the Triumph in a couple of weeks for a Valentines Day Getaway.

We have cruised on ships of all sizes including Oasis and Breeze and what I like about the Triumph is its intimate feel. We really enjoyed sitting in the atrium during the evening and listening to Jerry sing C & W. The entertainment on the ship was great!

  7. We've stayed at the Courtyard Marriott on Seawall, its at the far end of the seawall but we enjoyed out stay there in October. We have already reserved the same hotel for our upcoming cruise next month. The staff was very friendly and helpful, they offer free parking for the cruise and even provide a prompt shuttle service to/from the port.
