  1. This is a great thread. I am african american female with shoulder length hair.

I was thinking about getting micros, but heck....I have beautiful hair, I like my hair...I don't want braids. And besides, I got them a few years back, and it caused my hair to break off.

I liked the earlier post about making a salon appt. That sounds easy enough. Are you comfortable with the cruise salon doing your hair? Will they wash, condition, and flat iron my hair?

I have never experienced a problem having my hair done wihile on a cruise. IMO there's minimal risk involved in having someone wash, condition and set my hair on rollers. I generally bring my own products with me so I just go back to my cabin and wrap my hair. The curls give my hair extra body. While I'm sure their stylists are familiar with flat irons I'd be hesitant to let someone inexperienced with African American hair put heat and/or chemicals on my hair. Shampoo and condition is all I'd be comfortable with. That's not to rag on the salon onboard the ship I'd feel the same way with a stylist at home that I was meeting for the first time.

  2. I have been on many cruises and I too am an African American woman. I've worn micros only once and swore never again, taking them down was awful! We love water-based activities and spend alot of time in the water. If I don't feel like messing with my hair, I call the salon and schedule a wash and roller set this gets me a good shampoo and conditioning treatment and then I just wrap my hair.

  3. Hi! I'm an African American female and I cruise alot!! I also love the water and have no problem doing water activities!

I bring my own hair products, esp very good conditioner. I love cream of nature deep conditioner and use this on my hair.

Also, a tip that I learn from a friend that do hair. When you return to the ship, crush several asprin and mix it with water. Coat your hair with this mixture and then rinse. This is helpful in maintaining your hair. I don't know the why it work, but after six cruises, my hair comes back in good condition.

    Happy sailing!!

Thanks for the tip, I'll remember to put asprin in my bag when I start packing for our upcoming trip.

  4. The hinges/locks on our balcony dividers had layers of paint over them, so it didn't look like they did that, with our room at least.

And, for you Enchantment Junkies (of which I am a proud member, now), here's what I considered some fun stuff to do on board:

Champagne Terrace is a great place to hang out and listen to The Evergreen Trio. they perform there at night, and their lead singer has a beautiful voice. Nice, smooth music. Also, it's smoke free, and the bar is never crowded, so great place to hang out.

Boleros is a lot of fun when they are doing dance classes, trivia, etc. Even if you don't participate, it's so much fun to watch.

IMHO, the best seats in the Orpheum are the ones in the back of the first leve. They are tiered more steeply, and you get a fantastic view! Not as many folks jockeyed for those seats, and I just loved them. They're under the balcony level above, if that makes sense.

If you do not drink alcohol, there is a Passion Crush drink that is fabulous! It has all sorts of fruit juices in it. Yummo! And, it's only $2.95 (that alcohol allergy of mine makes cruising cheap)!!

The Library and the C&A study are both VERY comfy. Great leather chairs and big, beautiful windows. We waited there for a while until our cabins were open to put our things away. And, I snuck off there a few times to just chill. The C&A has a big screen TV that is usually on the news, if that's your cup of tea.

Windjammer served almost everything they had in the Dining Room on formal night, and a lot of things they didn't. So, if you aren't into the formal thing, Windjammer was a wonderful alternative.

That's all I can think of, right off the bat.

OH, one more thing, they had a smoke free night in the casino. Nice for the nonsmokers. I, myself, didn't think it was ever too bad in there even when it was smoking allowed. But, for the extra-sensitive noses amongst us, good news, I'm sure!

Now, I just wish I was back on her instead of talking about her. Sigh...

This is good information, thanks for posting! We are really looking foward to sailing on the Enchantment again.
