I am curious to know to. Just saw the fresh juice offered on the new brunch menu and we always purchase cheers.

It is not included according to Bookbug53's post from Carnival's website.

Is the offer $500 Casino Cash/Free Play?  That isn't exactly OBC.  Casino offers that come with the DOU can be any amount but it only good in the casino.  It is also just  given to the person who gets the offer.

If it is a casino offer and each of you got one, you should both be getting your amounts.   That's how it is for my mom and I.   She has been getting better offers than me, and when we book, we each get our own casino offers for our own amounts.   Our next cruise, she is getting 200 casino play and I am getting 50

Just to be clear, the Hot Streak offer is a newer promo that gives an OBC to the cabin. It has a maximum amount PER CABIN that is split between the single or double occupants no matter if one or both got the same offer. This isn't the more familiar free play or casino cash, in which only the invitee gets the money...or if both people have the offer both get his/her own offered amount.

And yes, Carnival does offer free interior, oceanview, balcony and suite rooms to gamblers. Depending on the offer, it will come with a drinks on us card, cash or free play (I've seen up to $1,500), and/or gifts and priority boarding (if a Premier, Ultra, or Elite cruise).

I get all of these offers but would not be considered a "whale" in any casino. I guess Carnival would call me a good customer.

  3. It is a CATEGORY upgrade, so Interior -> Oceanview -> Balcony. They say it has to be booked within 1 year of hitting diamond for a sailing within 2 years of hitting diamond.  From Carnival's website:

One-time complimentary category-type upgrade on applicable booking. Upgrade varies by ship class and is subject to certain category restrictions and exclusions. Does not include upgrade from balcony to suite.

I would be playing Black Jack because some very easy rules make it a much better game than roulette. However, even American  roulette with 2 zeros on the wheel is just slightly worse than my offer, 5.26% for the house. If I'm not available, even roulette is an easy way to convert fun chips to money if you don't put in all your money at once. Yet, house rules might not allow betting on red and black at the same time. Why? I really haven't got a clue.

Playing black and red makes it so the player can NEVER come out ahead. People think do so with funchips guarantees they will at least get half back as cash. I've seen green hit a few times when people were doing that. Would be better to play pass/don't pass line in craps and avoid the 5.26% chance to lose everything.

How does the sloto tournament work for the premier players?  Is it free?

Yes, you and cabinmate can enter for free (seems I remember they now require you earn 1,500 points each to be eligible). On a 7 day cruise it is usually the 5th day or so. They start signing people up like an hour before the start time using a list of all premier players and cabinmates with a Yes/No column for those eligible. The have maybe 15-20 machines and assign people to rounds. The highest scoring 15-20 people play a final round. Everyone in that final round gets some free play prize.

Ultra might be if you win a big prize, not the Apple Watch...

I won an Apple Watch and sold it on ebay for $899. Didn't seem so bad...

Question for those who've been on these special casino cruises who get the Drinks On Us card. Is there any way to get them to upgrade to Cheers or pay a little extra for it? I don't like to be limited to just the casino bar especially when it's going to be packed. And my companion won't be in the casino much but will drink alot at other bars.

They will upgrade it to a Cheers package if you get an Elite cruise invite, so you could possibly email the players club and ask if you could pay to get that package.

  7. Yes, a government issued photo ID (like a drivers license or state issued ID) is acceptable.

    From Carnival's help page:

    • Photo I.D. Information: If the Permanent Resident Card does not include a photo I.D., a non-expired government-issued photo I.D. is required of all guests 16 years of age or older such as a Driver’s License, Driver’s Permit or government-issued identification card (city/state/federal).

  8. Only thing I've seen missing was sometimes onboard credit (or any other perks such as free bottle of wine, etc.) from a TA may not show up until you are onboard. Otherwise, everything looks and acts the same no matter how the cruise is booked.

Was informed on my last Carnival (Sept'18) cruise that since I reach the level where I qualify to get offers for the Premier cruises that the fees would be waived regardless if the particular cruise was a booked as an special invitee of the casino.

    Has this changed?

Since 2010 I have been on 27 cruises all of which were casino offers, including just casino rates, bounce back offers, premier cruises, and ultra cruises...basically every type of casino based promotion available. Never have they waived fees on any of them except invitees of Premiere, Ultra, or Elite cruises. I am not sure who told you, but you should send an email to the casino@carnival.com and/or the oceanplayersclub and ask to be sure.

This sounds like something to keep in my back pocket.  Thanks!

    Good move!

    Your card to cash options:

-3% fee at the table ($20 or $25 minimum) using your S&S

-5.5% for amounts over $100 or $5.50 flat fee for under $100 you charge to get a cash advance from the cashier using your credit card or debit card

-$6.00 flat fee they charge to take it from the ATM

-0% load it on a player bank at the slot machines using your S&S then cash it out at the cashier*

-All the above fees are waived for invite-only people on Premier/Ultra/Elite casino cruises

*Carnival frowns on loading money from your S&S into your player bank and then not using it to play, and have been know to punish people for it. So some people load the money then play a few spins before cashing out the player bank.

I’ve been on cruises where we’ve missed a port for one reason or another, and haven’t been compensated at all, so I guess the $50 is reasonable. It’s certainly not generous. But coupled with the cruise delay, it comes across as the lowest amount they could get away with.

They do make cruise insurance to cover this very thing. It certainly doesn't make up for the loss of a port, but I'd be about $3,000 ($2,500 for the late leaving, $500 for the missed port) less annoyed than everyone else.

i booked this tour with a gift card..this is going to be annoying. I still have the gift card  and there is some money left over on the gift card too. if only they was a way for carnival to refund it back to the card.

Gift card refunds are sent on a new card. It makes sense because so many people throw them away when empty.

Avoid, at all costs, the diet pumpkin pie.  I know there are some diet desserts that people like, but the diet pumpkin pie is like eating slightly pumpkin flavoured paste. Nasty!

Well, there are two different versions. One is pumpkin flavored jello, the other is closer to the consistency of pumpkin pie. Both are equally bad.

  14. I think of it as you only need a passport in an emergency, like you miss the ship for some reason (late, arrested, hospital, etc.) and need to fly out. Copies are worthless when you need a passport. With that in mind, I would rather not have the added worry of getting an emergency passport on top of whatever problem caused me to need it. Especially the times when we took one of my kid's friends, I couldn't imagine the nightmare of trying to get an emergency passport. They weren't allowed to go without a passport.

So, passport works as ID everywhere and can keep a bad situation from being worse.

  15. We did the canal partial transit last year twice. It was difficult to sit and watch the whole thing for that many hours at a time. So, we watched the entrance on the first trip, and the exit on the second trip. It was interesting from way up top, but I went to the casino on the exit of the first trip and it was just crazy looking on a lower level to see how close and big the walls were. Head down to the promenade while in the locks and try not to reach out and touch the walls like a little kid! 😄

  16. True it isn't a cocktail party. At the steakhouse bar, they offered a choice of 2 drinks mimosas or orange juice. We just stood there and drank them while they continued to talk and answer questions. But on our tour there was a bartender there who made a shirley temple for one kid and poured the other a Coke. Like most things from ship to ship, I guess it can be pretty random.

How do you check your points?

You can view points from slots and other machines right on the machine. For table games, you have to ask. Just know they are separate, so 1000 on slots and 500 on tables will not get a card.

  18. Do go to brunch in the MDR on sea days. It is the only time you will see those unique menu items. The flatiron steak is our goto if nothing at dinner seems appealing. The carved meats are usually good. And try some of those weird salads on the buffet. We ignored that some seemed so unlikely to taste edible and just tried a single taste. We found two that were so good we took pictures so we could make them at home. I eat the meatballs from the meatball sub at the deli.

  19. When we traveled with our kids and brought cases of soda, we packed a luggage cart like this in our luggage and used it while boarding. Then put it back in the luggage when done. It weighs 4 pounds because we got the sturdier one knowing we had 5 cases.

Your cooler may just be a tad bit bigger, but that rule is so stuff will fit through the scanner. If yours doesn't fit, you have to leave it.

  20. We have used cabin phone, our cell phones, and the phone at guest services to call a US land line. All are as clear as my home phone.

Carnival to my knowledge has no way for someone to call your cabin phone or even the ship directly. Your cell phone will work to send and receive if your plan allows. Call your carrier to make sure your phone is set up and maybe buy one of the packages that cost less per minute.

NCL gives a Platinum (80 pts.) 2 free specialty dinners for 2 every cruise thereafter.

I said Carnival does at Diamond in response to, "wish Carnival gave a free Steakhouse dinner to its loyal customers!" But your explanation is much better, thank you. My sister works for NCL corporate and offers me lots good deals. Maybe once I retire I will give them a go.

Thanks for the response, since it says they move your luggage for you to your new room on Carnival's website when do they actually do that? I'm just confused how we could be out of the first room in time and where they will be taking my luggage if the second room isn't ready yet. I guess the room being ready really isn't a big deal as long as they are handling my luggage and I'm not having to carry it around the ship.

You have to be out of the room by 8:30am. You can leave stuff on hangers but pack everything else in your luggage. Tell your steward you are on a B2B and he/she will bring a luggage cart and put your stuff on and take it to your next room. That next room steward will put it in your new room, but be aware the door will be open while it is being cleaned, so careful with your valuables.

  23. If you end up with different rooms and you don't have priority boarding, you can expect your room will NOT be ready early. The steward for your second room won't have your room on the list for priority, so can't be expected to get it ready early. So, FTTF would have your room early. IF you get a room near your first room and have the same steward, it is possible they could do it for you but you'd have to ask.

I will add that you can check with your VIP Planner and ask if they have a reduced deposit available for the second leg so you can secure the same room, although those normally have non-refundable deposits should you end up not taking it.
