So I checked out that website link, which says they still send out letters, so obviously a little stale...

But: I don't have a PVP - I do everything myself.  So does Carnival send me a link to the form, or what?

I'd call the number, but I thought I'd ask here to see what actual experience anyone had, since I am nowhere near the 25th milestone, much less 50 or 100.  I have a grand total of 4 Carnival cruises under my belt!

I also book my own. On my 25th, I got my regular Platinum card and nothing else. I happened to be sitting with a woman talking about how many cruises we had taken. When I said this was my 25th, she asked where my special card was. She happened to be wearing one of those cards except it was 50th milestone for her. I went to customer service and they pulled up my cruise history and counted..."yep you and your wife have 25." He went in back and brought back some generic white cards for us. When I got back to the room, he called and said they had issued an OBC of 25% for me and my wife for that cruise even though I didn't ask for that. I guess it was fine since most of mine are "free" from the casino. It didn't feel like anything special. :classic_blink:

In a cove balcony--do you feel your view is obstructed?

Two downsides we had with cove balcony. I like looking at stars at night (I bring astronomy binoculars to see the southern stars not viewable from home) and the view was obstructed. I could see off on the horizon but anything from 45 degrees and up was totally blocked. If you like to get some sun on your balcony, coves are shaded some of the time, especially when the sun is highest in the sky. Of course, there are lots of things to like as people above have stated.

  3. We mostly fly in the morning of the cruise, usually a 7am flight. Board at the earliest time, drop bags off in the room, eat lunch on the Lido, head back to the room and take a good long noontime nap until they bang on the door to shoo us off to muster. Head back to the room and unpack...then the cruisin begins! The first night is fun because so many go to bed early, the crowd really thins out after 8pm or so. That nap lets us go until 2 or 3am, which plays right into getting up late the next day for a seaday brunch.

  4. Our first cruise on the Triumph in 2006 we pretty good except I was soooooooo seasick. I happened to be at the free cruise drawing at the end of the cruise and said if someone offered me a free cruise I would slap them with it. I eventually tried again cruising again 4 years later because the kids and wife liked it so much, and it was a free cruise offer from the casino. I brought a patch AND pills and it went so much better. By the 3rd cruise, I only took pills on a few nights after dinner. Now I carry pills just in case, but haven't used them for years.

March can be VERY foggy on the Gulf and the river.  Could be a delaying factor of when the ship arrives at the port.  good luck.

Yes! Be very aware of occasional docking delays from fog during early Spring, meaning the ship gets in port at the scheduled time instead of early. Our very first cruise out of NOLA the entire highway I-10 headed to the airport was closed just past the football dome from a nasty accident. Our cab driver knew his stuff. He zigged through lots of side streets and got us there with just a 15 minute delay.

I HAVE BOOKED A CRUISE ON APRIL 14, 2019 ON THE DREAM OUT OF NEW ORLEANS.  I HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR MONTHS TO GET THE FASTER TO THE FUN...

Just so you know, Carnival made this a Premier Casino cruise, which immediately made FTTF go to sold out. The available casino cabins were all sold out before the promo end date, meaning the max number of those bookings was taken. All people booking this as a Premier Casino cruise get free FTTF, so the chances of it becoming available are pretty much zero. Keep checking, but don't get your hopes up.

  8. It is so hit or miss with Premier cruises. I have been on them when you would never know it was a casino cruise, and on non-casino cruises where the casino was way busier than normal. I haven't identified a pattern of knowing what to expect as I have taken them during all times of year except around spring break. But I do know the busiest time of day to be in the casino is right after dinners.

you don't both get the free play...only the premier person gets the free play.

This! I received free play on at least 15 cruises and I do check every time to see if my wife is on the free play list. She never is no matter Ultra or Premier, or any other casino offer. She does get the drinks card and is entered in the Ultra/Premier random drawings for the games and cash (Matilda, Fill My Bag, etc.), but not the one for the big Ultra prize.

Did you ever see that green card at upper right??

All the dealers in the casino have that green card. I wonder if they would part with it at the end of their contract, or if they have to turn them in. I may still have the old Carnival Fun Points credit card. Interested?

I tip a $1 a drink with the DOU card and I always have it.  I have no problem getting continuous drinks and If I move, they find me.

Same here. They remember my name, preferred drink, and folio number. I also remember their names and tips and put them on my reviews by name. Only times when waiters get scarce is during dinner time when they send the waiters to the dining rooms, and very late at night (1am and later) when they have only a few on duty.

  12. One common one is the Hilton New Orleans Riverside. It is in the middle of the Riverwalk Mall. Be aware there are about 20 steps (no elevator) up to the walkway, then about a half block of walking on the outside (but covered) walkway along the backside of the mall (facing the river) to the mall entrance. It's nice because there is no walking on sidewalk-less streets or through construction.

Good luck trying to get a DOU card playing any of the tables. I have never seen it done. Points don't add up as quickly as it does on the slots

I have received one for every one of my 25 cruises playing just roulette, so I must be very lucky. 🙂

The one time the DOU card does carry over to the following cruise is on a back-to-back. Just go to the cage on the first day of the second leg and exchange the old one for a new one.

You can still purchase Carnival insurance after the final payment date. See screenshot; we are past final payment and it will still allow us to purchase Carnival’s insurance.

To the OP: I doubt you will be covered no matter whose insurance you purchase. It would fall under a preexisting exclusion. Meaning, you already know he’s sick, so you can’t just purchase insurance now because you know you might need it. It’s like if someone knew that flood waters were heading their way so they go out and buy flood insurance. That’s not how insurance works. You don’t wait to buy it until you know you need it. Otherwise, everyone would wait.

Just to clarify, insurance does cover pre-existing conditions if purchased within the policy guidelines. In this case, I have not seen any policy that will cover pre-existing conditions if purchased after the final payment. Many require purchase when first booking, but plenty allow purchase up to final payment as long as final payment is before the minimum limit. The shortest minimum limit to purchase pre-existing coverage I have seen was 30 days, but it was a policy three time more expensive than others. Most I have seen are 90 days. And then there is the look-back period for pre-existing conditions to consider. It is best to read the policy as best you can and talk to the insurance company if possible. Just know that you can generally purchase travel or cruise insurance up to 24 hours before your vacation begins, but you will be ineligible for many provisions of the policy. I have found InsureMyTrip is really good at adding a disclaimer about which provisions of the policy will not be in effect.

And neither FTTF or any other VIFP status allows you to jump lines in the dining room or comedy club or getting into the theater.

For anytime dining, our priority status allowed us to get seated first. As they took names and handed out pagers to people in line, when they got to us they told us to just come be seated. Another time, they gave us a pager and called us 10 minutes later while all the people in front of us were still sitting in the lounge. Of course, different ships may vary.

Thank you for posting. Sounds like there's no good deals.

Each offer is based on that player's level of play. Some people got free ($250 taxes/port charges) interior, ocean view, balcony, or suite with $500-$1000 casino cash. People who don't get a free cabin will find ultra cruises relatively expensive.

I realize this doesn’t apply to you yet, but the easiest way to verify your VIFP status is to print your boarding documents for your cruise(s). The boarding pass will show your VIFP status for the cruise(s).

Just understand that the status for that future cruise won't show up until after OP completes his/her 2 already booked cruises.

Like ImANewfie experienced, I turned Gold on the second leg of a B2B and platinum on the second leg of a B2B and had the status on the first day of the first leg. Now, I have 13 days for diamond and expect to be diamond on the first day of the first leg of my upcoming B2B.

  18. We have done this three times and aside for the permission for travel/medical from the parents, we insisted they had to have a passport. If anything happens where you have to miss the ship, imagine trying to get an emergency passport for someone else's child. And I include them in my travel insurance that would actually provide transportation for a parent to come to the child. All that isn't mandatory, but not having these 2 things in place would turn a bad situation into a real nightmare.

  19. You can reasonably expect that the the TVs at the casino bar and in the casino itself will be showing the games from a single channel. I have never seen multiple channels except in the sports bar for those ships that have them. You can also expect that NO games will be showing on your cabin TV. There are no network channels and no ESPN on them anymore, so you will be limited to the casino or getting the fastest internet package and using a sports app like CBSSPORTS or ESPNgo to stream games.

How do prepaid gratuities show up?  We're paid in full and I'd like to try to take advantage of this! If not, anyone know if I can use a Carnival gift card for them? Thanks!

Adding prepaid gratuities will work. Most of my cruises are port fees and taxes only, so I add the gratuities to get over the $500 to use this offer.

I have found that I can only get the offer on 1 card using the link. It gives a message that the offer is already on a card.
