This is about the same way hubby and I do these. I set up a spreadsheet for activities on our page and folks sing up for this before we sail. We do allow for additional players until just before we start in case anyone did not get to sign up ahead of time. We usually use a Wheel of Fortune slot and do 3 pulls per person with $5 bet. Same concept... At the end of each round we decide as a group to continue for another round or to cash out. We divide cash evenly and any difference which is most likely a few cents per person is donated to Groove For St. Jude on Carnival.

  2. We will be sailing the Fantasy on December 11th. We are flying in on Sunday December 10th.

Does anyone know a good hotel perhaps with an airport/port shuttle?

Or does anyone have experience getting from airport/hotel/port?

The port of Mobile seems to be more industrial and nothing like Tampa, Miami, etc. It was hard enough finding a reasonable flight into Mobile.

    Thanks!

We have stayed twice at the Holiday Inn Tillman's Corner. Last time was in May and there ended up being several other folks staying there as well. They have free breakfast and shuttle to the port. We have had no complaints either time we stayed.

  3. There are 4 Ultra cruises this year. They are Carnival Dream 11/12/17, Carnival Sunshine 12/01/17, Carnival Freedom 12/09/17 and Carnival Vista 12/16/17.

Apparently there is one on the December 4th Paradise Panama Canal Cruise. Several folks mentioned it to me today in reference to some group activities we have planned. We must not gamble enough cause I had never heard of these until today.

  4. My Roll Call for the Empress of the Seas if pretty dead and I've search this area with no luck. So, here goes...

This will be our first time to cruise out of Tampa and wanted to know what options there are for parking near Terminal 3 in Tampa, besides what the port offers? I've checked Google, but wanted to know what other cruisers suggest.

    John

Hi John, I used Park4Cruise before and have a reservation to use them again this December. They are located right across the street from the port very efficient. There shuttle will take you to the port and be there when you return to get you back to the lot. A lot cheaper as well, I believe booking in advance was $8.00 per night.

  5. This is a word doc that I also did and highlighted places to see along the way with a little history to go along. A couple of places like the Drawbridge Bakery are not on here cause we found them along the way. Neat little place to see. Also the Starbucks was just past the straw market so went there on the way back instead of before.

Parliament Square- The buildings in Parliament Square were constructed in 1815 by the Loyalists. They are modeled after buildings that are found in New Bern, the old capital ofNorth Carolina. These flamingo-pink government buildings are excellent examplesof the colonial architecture of old Nassau. The building to the right is theHouse of Assembly where parliamentary meetings are held. The Senate meetsupstairs in the center building and the building to the left houses the officeof the Leader of the Opposition. Queen Victoria's Statue, erected in 1905 fromfunds donated by the public who held her in high esteem, is in the front of theSenate building. Located at the back of the Senate building is the SupremeCourt which occupied this present building since 1921. This is where quarterlysessions of the Bahamas Superior Court and sessions of The Court of Appeal sit.Judges and lawyers are dressed in traditional British wigs and robes.

Queen’s Staircase- 102-ft - The Queen's Staircase, commonly referred to as the 66 steps, is a major landmark that is located inthe Fort Fincastle Historic Complex in Nassau. It was hewn out of solid limestonerock by slaves between 1793 and 1794 and it is said that it provided a directroute from Fort Fincastle to Nassau City. These steps were later named in honorof Queen Victoria, who reigned in Britain for 64 years from 1837 to 1901.

There are only 65 steps visible because the pathway thatleads to the steps was paved and the bottom step is buried under the asphalt.Great photo opportunity.

Fort Fincastle, ThisFort was constructed of cut limestone c. 1793 and strategically placed atopBennet's Hill to protect historic Nassau town and its harbour; it was builtunder the governorship of John Murray, also called Viscount Fincastle, in theshape of a paddle-wheel steamer.

Government House- Government House, located on a 10 acre estate, stands on Mount Fitzwilliamand is the official residence of the Governor General of The Bahamas. It datesback to 1801 and this imposing pink and white building on Duke Street is anexcellent example of the mingling of Bahamian-British and American Colonialarchitecture. The graceful columns and broad, circular driveway recall thestyles of Virginia and the Carolinas. In front of the building is the statue ofChristopher Columbus. This statue was imported from London in 1830 by GovernorJames Carmichael Smythe in honor of Columbus' Landfall at San Salvador in 1492.

  6. We just got back from Nassau after a cruise last week. I put together a walking tour that made a circle from the port to Queen's Staircase. The staircase was amazing and so beautiful. So glad we went there. We had about 10 other folks join us on the walk. The fort and views were wonderful and we felt very safe the whole time. We headed back to port by walking down the street that was really festive looking where the Drawbridge Bakery is located and turned right at the end of the road which took us past the police station then on to Government Square and around to the big catholic church. We went past this adorable Greek Orthodox Church with such beautiful wooden doors and ended near the British Colonial Hilton. Took us about 3 hours total to walk and we all were glad we did this. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for something inexpensive to do in Nassau to plan a walk. You can go to mapquest and it gives you the option to do walking directions. Just keep adding the places you want to walk past and it will plan your route.

  7. I just want to say thank you for the information on the Queen's Staircase and walking. I put together a walking tour that made a circle from the port to Queen's Staircase. 8. My husband and I walked to the John Watling Rum tour and the cigar factory tour when we were there in January. I just printed an actual walking tour, so I think that we will do the Queens Steps, etc. on foot also this time. Thank you for jogging my memory about the map idea--we are interested in seeing the historical stuff this time out.

The Rum Factory tour was a little farther than the Steps and at times I felt like we were too far from other touristy traffic as far as safety goes, but there were uniformed police on pretty much every corner.

    Thanks again.

We are going next week on a cruise to Nassau. I have organized a self walking tour to Queens Staircase and back for my DH and I and a few from our same cruise have decided to join us. I was concerned about safety since I understand part of it is walking thorough a neighborhood, but from what I am reading safety (other than using common sense) we should be ok and that there are plenty of uniformed police around. Am I reading correct? thanks

  9. We did a 21 day B2B Journey cruise January 2016, had a blast. We are going on another Journey cruise, the Miracles reposition from Long Beach to Tampa, 14 days. We are Platinum so we really don't bring too much extra as we have free laundry. Yes, they a throw back 80's night, but we did not participate.

thanks I will check out the thread you gave. We are Platinum as well so we have started having laundry done as well. Makes it a lot eaiser.

  10. I have been cruising through the threads on here and the only info I am finding on the Carnival Journey Cruises seems to be from 2015 and 2016. We are doing the Panama Canal Journey Cruise in December of 2017 and wanted some information on just what to expect and maybe things to pack that might not usually pack.

I read that there are games and such on Lido Deck that used to be done back in the 80's and have heard suggestions that some folks even dress the 80's part. Also, understand that there are other activities like photography classes, food classes etc.

Can anyone give me more insight in what to expect maybe that has done one more recently.

    Thanks for any info

    DIane
