  1. When we did our PC cruise on the island, we started our approach to the locks at 4:30am. It was very nice having the balcony where we just put our robes on and didn't have to go very far considering we were not even fully awake. Also made for a nice private view of the sunrise

  2. to each their own. I was on the CB in Sept, and I am a big guy with back issues....I had no problem with the seats, and the DW and I never had a problem finding a table for dinner....you just had to walk to the next section and there was always seating....on a full ship.

  3. It is funny how while you are on a cruise with 3000 other people, you will always seem to focus on a select few and will notice them regularly throughout the week. While one person may say they saw only old people on the ship, another might say that they saw a number of children or young adults. Depending on your daily routine, there are so many people that you just never see or focus on.

  4. We are 37/39 and have been cruising with Princess for the past 11 yrs. Sometimes we are the "children" of the cruise, and others we are not. It depends on the itinerary and the time of year.

  5. I would agree with what #1TravelMon said....It is better to compare the ships first when it comes to NCL vs Carnival. I cannot comment on the Pearl, but what Carnival ship would you be considering? I can tell you that under the right circumstances I would sail on either line....but I would not go on the Carnival Freedom again.

  6. Here are the facts for the Caribbean Princess cabins D732 & D733 (Dolphin deck 9)

The Princess website shows the following description:

    Stateroom Number: D732

    Type: Mini-Suite

    Category: MD

    Location: Aft

    Deck: 9 (Dolphin)

    Bath Type: Shower

    Connecting Room: N/A

    Total Size: 324 sq. ft.

    Special Notes:

NON STANDARD LAYOUT SHOWER ONLY/NO TUB/ NO SINK VANITY/TWINSONLY BALCONY AFT VW

Apparently the room was originally supposed to be a wheelchair accessible room, but it did not pass inspection. Although it is not classified as such, it is:

The two beds are placed each on separate sides of the cabin. Although the Princess site will not let you choose a queen configuration, and some people may have stated that the beds are bolted to the ground, they can actually be moved together. The head of the beds would need to be against the wall of the inner hallway, and there would be basically no room to maneuver around the bed. Both beds have on/off buttons for some of the lights, and one of them includes a 911 button which does work – I accidentally pushed it, and the front desk called the room immediately. These cabins have a love seat - a standard mini has a 3 seat sofa bed. The storage configuration is different than a standard mini, but there is still plenty of space. There are two LCD TVs in the room, but unlike a standard mini, the one facing the beds is smaller than the other. The balcony is completely uncovered, and is wider than a standard mini; it extends towards the aft of the ship. There is no bump to get into the bathroom, and there is no border for the tub less shower. There is a shower curtain that wraps around in a square configuration, and since there is more space, it will not attack you the way it would in other tub less cabins. There are grates in the floor under the curtain for the water to drain, and one under the door. We had our room steward give us extra towels everyday so that we could put them on the floor to prevent the water from going beyond the grates…..this was not a big deal. There is a seat in the shower. There is a sink with no vanity, and it has an extra-long handle. The bathroom also has an emergency button and pull cord.

  7. We are on the Caribbean Princess, and had two bottles of wine in our luggage. It arrived in our room without incident. We brought one to the CG and were charged the $15 corking fee. We asked our steward to open the other in our cabin, but he didn't have a corkscrew so we had to call room service to come and open it.

  8. We travel a lot and do a lot of cruises for people our age (30s), and the answer is simple.....we have no kids! While home we spend all of our time working....we are middle class....and cruising is the best way for us to get unplugged and relax.

We are in Quebec and need to fly to our cruise ports (thank you airmiles), if airfare was not an issue, we would cruise even more!

  9. I'm trying to think of anything to add to this thread from our cruises, and the only thing that comes to mind as of now is the time that the DW tried to get to my table in the casino from the other side of the room by going through the pit! She didn't know anything about casino rules, and before I could even get a word out that she couldn't be in there, she was swarmed by the staff. The look on her face in complete shock "wth is going on", and the look on the faces of the staff, like she was #1 on the most wanted list :)

  10. We LOVE to cruise....and frequently hear "you're going on another cruise!" from some people.....not because of the cost, but because they do not understand why we aren't doing other types of vacations. Only my fellow cruise critic junkies can understand that it is a love for being on the ship, and the cruise can go anywhere or nowhere....it's all good! It has gotten to the point that associates ask me all the time "so when is your next cruise?", to which I usually have a date I can tell them....this year has been quite busy, as we will going on our 4th ship in 2013....to be followed by 2 more in Jan.....Life is good :)

  11. The menu for the day is always posted outside the the Horizon Court as are the other dining options, that way you can make a choice about where to dine. Vent 2010 probably took a photo!

I do not recall ever seeing a menu posted, except for my first cruise on the Grand 11 years ago, where there was an after hours menu posted at the buffet which you could order from.

  12. I don't know where you got those menus....they are not posted on the ship. If they are not picky eaters, they will find plenty of "meat n potatoes" at the buffet! Besides the offerings in the hot plates, there is a daily meat which gets sliced to order that changes every day.

  13. Not the most I ever won, but I made a few $$$ on the Star Princess last month. Playing the $5 minimum at the Let it Ride/3card + bonus table, I hit two 3card three of a kind & two 5card full houses.

    Paid:

    2 x 3of a kind = $300

    2 x full house = $55 x 6 + $75 x 2 = $480

    Total $780
