  1. Although the menus are the same on all ships, like any other restaurant, it all comes down to the chef.

Everything in the crown was cooked to perfection on our cruise in Jan on the Ruby. I loved the onion soup...even though I do not like blue cheese. The multiple shrimp dishes were great. The filet and lobster melted in your mouth, and we could not get enough of the mash...which was strangely addictive.

Having been on the Star a few weeks ago, nothing was as good. I didn't like the soup, the shrimp was lacking in flavour, the meat was over-cooked, and the mash was ordinary. It didn't help that there was also a language barrier with the waiter.

For a $25 charge, which is cheaper than most pay restaurants at sea, it is worth a visit.

  2. I have never been a steak eater, but I will have a filet mignon if I am in the specialty restaurant. I want my meat to still have a touch of pink, but no blood. I try to convey this to the waiter by saying no blood...but sometimes that gets interpreted as medium well....which is usually overcooked. I can only hope that the waiter understands properly and tells the chef. On my last cruise, there was a language barrier with the waiter and my complicated order.

  3. I am in a suite on the Star, and we opted to exchange the mini bar for a bottle of white wine. We received some Mexican brand which my wife thought tasted cheap. If I am ever in this position again, I will exchange for something different

  4. Just off the Silhouette, asked the steward for the pillow menu on the first night...he gave me the blank look and said he would get back to me.....which he never did...I may have asked a 2nd time but didn't bother after that. I should have, the pillows that were on the bed were tiny squares that were not the best.

  5. That being said, what are the reasonable expectations of a CD? I read the post where a CD gave a breakdown of his day, and it showed how much time they need to put in each day...not an easy job.

For me, the CD on my first cruise was so good and had an amazing team, that it gave me an expectation for every cruise there after. On my third cruise the CD was also great.....but none of the others or their teams have even been close. Perhaps one should not expect so much from the CD, and I just had a real good first cruise.

  6. She was the CD on our Ruby cruise. She is well dressed and well spoken, and in my opinion will only appeal to an older crowd. She does not add any excitement to the cruise, and unfortunately, her team follows in her footsteps.

Of my 8 cruises, I can say that only 2 of the CDs were memorable....so I don't exect much anymore.

  7. I won 3 bingo sessions in a row on the Constallation for $600+, won a $250 jackpot on a Jackpot Party 25c machine, and have had other small wins which kept me playing for the duration of my cruise...all small stakes.

On the Emerald 2 yrs ago, the woman sitting next to me won $14,000 after hitting a straight flush on LET IT RIDE w/ 3 CARD POKER table.

  8. We had booked a guaranteed outdoor cabin and ended up in stateroom 8120, which is an obstructed view. There is a tender right below the window, but you can still see out perfectly. There is a specialty restaurant called Salsa on the Deck 8. My stateroom was right across from the kitchen. Besides the noise that I was able to hear through the door and walls, there are also connecting pipes in the ceiling. There was always noise in my cabin and it kept me up at night and sometimes woke me up very early. I would assume that this was the worst stateroom on the ship and I complained about it. It should not be sold to guests. If you go on this ship, make sure that you do not end up in cabin 8120 !!!
