I have learned a lot from this thread. Thank you for all the information. I shall use it on my trip next April.

Have fun! We will be in Madrid next year for a few days and would love to hear your thoughts once you have experienced the city.
@edinburgher I too appreciate your insight to Madrid and will look into those suggestions.

Hello @Haljo1935. First time following you on your adventure. I look forward to your posts from Rome. We were there last October and loved, loved, loved every inch of the city. Enjoy!

I have really enjoyed tagging along on your adventures to the South Pacific. Some of these islands I have never heard of before. Thanks for sharing all the photos as well. I will be looking forward to following along on your next adventure.

Greetings again Mr. Morpheus. Long time, no see. Glad you and Mrs. M got to the port safe. I used to work at Eastern Airlines on 36th Street back in the day and had to travel I-95 every day. Wrecks almost every day on that crazy highway. Anyway, enjoy your cruise and hopefully the 65 YC kids won't bother you. Fair Winds and Following Seas!

Can't go wrong with Rome Cabs for transfers. They were on time and very professional.

Hi Jacqui. My husband and I are sailing on the Oosterdam, April 5, 2024- Trans Atlantic- Port Everglades to Athens. We are celebrating my husband's 78th birthday. Would love to be added to the Bon Voyage list. Thanks so much for doing this.

It's weird, because it seems like water issues are a problem in multiple areas. One of the people in my rollcall said that they've got the opposite problem, that their hot water can get so hot sporadically that it probably isn't safe.
Oh My! That definitely is dangerous.

Nice balcony.
I'm sailing on Her in April Trans-Atlantic. Hopefully by then some of the cabin issues will be fixed.

I’ve just found this thread. They sound a great company but I can’t get in contact with them. The contact page keeps saying there is an error on it. Does anyone have contact details for them other than their contact page on the website?
info@romeinlimo.com
Jany is the contact person. She will always get back to you.

OK. Got it. I'm glad this question was asked as I also have OBC on an upcoming sailing and wanted to use it on shore excursions. I shall now book it pre cruise and get the refund onboard.

or just call Customer Service and they will send an email with updated booking OBC while you are still on the phone. I do this for every cruise.
But the question still remains...can you book a shore excursion with said OBC before sailing?

This thread is a wealth of information. I have scrolled back many times. Wait a bit longer, please.

I have heard that Royal are ruthless. If they catch you smuggling drink onboard they cancel your booking on the spot.
Do you know someone or heard that this has actually happened. That seems pretty drastic. I know of someone that they took away the liquor but not cancel their cruise.

Thanks for that info. I'll ask the steward as soon as I get to my cabin.

DH and I have always had beds together but on the last few 3-day sailings we elected to take an inside cabin. The beds were together, but we discovered that if they are separated you have more room. Having a center aisle between gives you way more room. The cabin steward was more than happy to re-arrange for us.

Can you choose if you want morning or evening cleaning?

After scouring this board and researching, I booked an apt yesterday through a third party app. We are three adults and as a @cruisemom42 has mentioned in some posts, it can be hard to find hotels that accommodate three adults. Found a lovely penthouse (807 sq ft) with a large terrace right down the street from Colosseum. I was hesitant about the area but it has over 52 5-star reviews (nothing less than 5 stars). Trip is Sept 2024 and cost is 620 eu for 2 nights. I personally thought it was a great price.
On our trip to Rome back in October 2022 we stayed at a hotel in the Colosseum area and it was just fine. No problems and there were all kinds of restaurants and bars. Some of the best food I have ever eaten.

I hope so too! I am actually also on the 16th sailing so would be great to have them sail with us. We wanted to sail together but my partner couldn't get the leave during September so we booked separately. Having them sail with us feels like it would make up for it all, even if they have to downgrade and pay a bit more.
"Stiff upper lip" Mark. It could still happen.

@cruisemom42 you are a wealth of information. This is good info and now I think I will reserve a transfer company from the port to the hotel.

Absolutely. It's a short walk from the hotel to the Acropolis ticket office/entrance. There is a path leading up to it right across from the Acropolis Museum, which is only a couple of blocks from the hotel. (That path is a longer ramble, but less steep than the other one I know of...)
If you decide to end up in Syntagma Square, it's lovely to have a drink on the rooftop of the Grande Bretagne hotel. Of course, the Athens Gate has a rooftop hotel as well that is less expensive but without the history, lol. And if you get tired you can always take the metro (Line 2) from Syntagma Square one stop to the Akropoli station, which is .... you guessed it....right next to the Athens Gate Hotel.
Have fun!
Thanks again @cruisemom42.

We got home less than two weeks ago. We stayed at the Athens Gate. Great hotel and great location. You will be about 2 blocks from Hadrian's Arch and the Temple of Zeus (currently it has scaffolding around it). The New Acropolis Museum is very close too. Cruisemom42's suggestions are spot on!
BTW - the restaurant at The Athen's Gate is on the 7th floor and overlooks the Acropolis. Breakfast is served here every morning. If you want dinner there one night, we did, you have to make a reservation. We stayed three nights and on the first night we made our reservation for the next day.
Thanks for this info. Hopefully by next April the scaffolding will be gone.
