Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We’ve used princess transfers from other ports before with no issue. Perhaps because of the tight port layout, the LA port transfer was so bad (complete cluster…) we gave up and called an Uber after waiting for 30 mins. We still had to wait about another 30min for the Uber but that was Dec 1 off the Sapphire as mentioned above so looks like that was the right call.
  2. We flew into YVR for connecting flight to LA from a Canadian airport and had to wait in a very long line to go through security again at a US security/passport check area before even getting to US customs. That connecting time may be « legal » from the airlines perspective but is not enough time.
  3. We have a weekday arrival in San Pedro cruise port and a 3pm flight out of LAX. Our shuttle leaves the cruise port at about 9:30 so I imagine we would arrive at LAX to check our bags around 10:30. Any ideas of what might be close to or even in the airport to kill a couple of hours ? Or are we better off just to bite the bullet and wait in the airport ? We’ve never been to LAX before so assuming check in and security won’t use up that much time might be naive.
  4. Absolutely correct. From their website: Are there any items I cannot send? Yes, any hazardous or dangerous commodities are prohibited from all Luggage Forward shipments. For shipments traveling between two countries, there may be additional items that are restricted by customs on a country-specific basis. Here are some of the most common items that cannot be shipped in your luggage: Medication, OTC, prescription, or vitamins Food & Alcohol Perfume (or anything with alcohol content) Pressurized Containers (aerosol, CO2 cartridges, etc) Valuables or Currency Electronics Lithium based, or Alkaline batteries For additional items that cannot be shipped, please visit https://www.faa.gov/hazmat/packsafe/
  5. I included some simple non-aerosol toiletries in my luggage (toothpaste, etc.) with no issues. You can’t add perfumes, alcohol or alcohol containing, aerosol items. I put them on top and in a separate zip log bag in case they had to remove. We really appreciated the service and are planning to use them again on an upcoming cruise. Has anyone used the return service from the ship ? If so, where and when did they pick up the luggage ? We’re thinking of spending time in Europe before and after the next cruise.

  7. Remember that the 15 drink limit is only on alcoholic drinks. Other drinks (specialty cocktails, bottled water, mocktails, gun soft drinks) are unlimited. If your mother likes lattes, cappuccinos, mocktails, etc she may get some benefit beyond just gratuities.
  8. Made a change after payment but before the 45 days once because we saved a nice amount. It resulted in a credit balance on the cruise and I had to call Princess customer service to get it refunded (the CSR transferred me to the billing folks). I’m not sure what would have happened if I hadn’t called in or tried to call on a weekend.
  9. We’ve used it for that reason - travelling a few days in Europe before the cruise. They picked the luggage up at our home approximately 10 days before the cruise date and was waiting for us in the cabin when we boarded. It is quite expensive though. We checked the luggage on our return flight.
  10. What’s the earliest check in starts ? 9am seems very early for the first shuttle.
  11. We buy it only for the CFAR as well. Did the rep who indicated it would no longer be available to Canadians on Oct 16 (I’m assuming 2023 - this Monday) say what would happen if you had already purchased it for a cruise that sails &/or has final payment after that date ?
  12. I’ve been trying to reassure friends who’ve been doom scrolling (don’t ask). They’re concerned about not being covered with cancel for any reason PVP in the following situations: 1) plane cancellations and delays (especially + PVSA) mean they miss the cruise 2) they are denied boarding for any reason including not having the right documentation In these cases, are they still covered by cancel for any reason ? While their specific concerns may be unwarranted it is easier for me to just confirm they are covered (assuming that’s true). My only experience of PVP was cancelling around 45-50 days before the cruise and it worked as advertised.
  13. We’ll soon be booking a flight from our airport through Vancouver to LAX which is a first for us. We have a couple of questions to help us decide how long a layover to book. We know we’ll need to complete US border/customs in Vancouver. Do we have to go through security again first like in Toronto Pearson ? Also, does filling out the new CBP MPC speed up the customs process ?
