Yes, it was a serious question. I genuinely love getting on the small tender and being that close to the ship and when coming back just being in awe of how big the ship really is.
My questions should have been this....."Assuming perfect weather conditions, and that the wait time was next to nothing for a tender, would people still prefer to dock rather than tender?"
Nope - still no ;)

You can get onboard credit on a future cruise if booking onbaord carnival and royal caribbean,.
-
I agree that none of them are too great. As a non-drinker, I get little benefit. I do like the free laundry service offered to Carnival Platinum.
As a gambler, those benefits (free cruises) trump any loyalty perks.

both are great itineraries - you can't go wrong!

87.
I spread them out every 4 months, as I don't like to wait more than 115 days or so :D

discounts or deals on what? what cruise line?
As for onboard shopping, you will get a daily itinerary in your cabin, and there are often shopping, dining, spa specials listed in there.

Most lines have a southern caribbean itinerary where you will find some of the best ports, IMO.

it sounds good no matter where you live ;)

1 and 2, I think you are right in addressing directly with the cruise line. As for security, I have traveled alone. Just be sensible. I always feel safe on the ship, but in port, I just use common sense. If traveling solo, I tend to book shore excursions throug the cruise line. You pay a little more, but there is an element of safety, and they won;t leave without you!
There are tons of resources, so happy planning!
I also would check into Carnival - they sometimes offer great rates for single guests, making it very affordable

My first consideration is if I am flying and will incur baggage fees on the airline. If I am driving to port (NY/NJ), I pack whatever I think I might need (absolutely over pack). If I am flying, I take about 1/3 of that and still have plenty. I prefer black pants for dinner, which can be paired with different blouses (which are light and easy to pack). I try not to bring my brown tones, as I like to limit my shoes, which is where I sometimes go crazy (ie: packing 10 pair or more).

sounds ambitious! You'll need a cruise with a lot of sea days to follow it to rest up

Does anyone else get little pleasures when you squeek within an age threshold :o I was 29, clearly within the 20-29 bracket, even if it was just by a month.
I have been sailing with my kids since they were babies. My daughter was 9 months, and my son about a year. Spoiled kids :)

We always arrive before noon. ONly time we were delayed was for a looonnnnngggggg coast guard inspection where noone was allowed to board.

On the Disney ships the "mailbox" thing by the cabin door is fish shaped and the groups will make something to hang off of it to hold presents that are given to the "Roll Call type" group. Its fantastic! Good fish extender and you can see how creative some people are!
thanks - I was wondering the same thing

Conceptually, love B2B on same ship with different itinerary. A consideration based upon my experience last month: consider the type of passengers who will be on a shorter cruise. We did an 8+6. The 8 was great. The 6 day was a cheap cruise and the quality of passengers showed

I had one bad experience and would never do it again. We were on deck 1 about the garbage area and the room STUNK for the whole week.

RCCL upgrades are not many, and offered to their most loyal cruisers. If there is a category sold out a year in advance, don;t think there is any possibility of an upgrade

In your shoes, I would book a cabin for 4 our of Baltimore. This would keep the cost down (3rd and 4th will be super cheap). And parking in Baltimore is much cheaper than parking in NY.

Carnival does a great job leading you off the ship, through immigration, and back on. It'll be a realxing stress-free day for you - enjoy the ship to yourself :)

love love love Splendor - it's my favorite Carnival ship. Sailed on her twice last year, and looking forward to sailing afain 4/19/15. Anything specific you want to know, just ask :)
-
Bonaire - would love to stay there and scuba dive for a week :D

Well that certainly helped answer the question. While I don't care for Atlantis, or Nassau in general, doesn't mean they'll think it sucks....

While this is true, it does suck :p

IMO, I would buy a pair of elastic-waist pants that are more appropriate than sweats, but still comfortable and easy to put on. You don't have to wear a suit, or even formal dress pants, but casual slacks would be a good solution. I would never want to be in a position where he is embarassed and turned away in the dining room

Great advice but from my personal experience, Carnival (Triumph from Galveston), was like the Walmart of cruises. It was ok but not our favorite. Loved Voyager of the Seas out of Galveston. Had a nice short cruise on NCL Sky out of Miami. About to leave on NCL Jewel in a few days and doing Celebrity Summit next January. We compare cost and ports to help make our decision. I personally would only do Carnival again if I really wanted to do a last minute out of galveston for a cheap vacay.

Take everything you read with a grain of salt. I have been sailing Carnival and find it a small step down from Royal Caribbean, but a perfectly fine, FUN, cruise line. I have heard the same negatively said about Norwegian, which this poster seems to like. They are only opinions, and may not be in line with your tastes or expectations!
Would you rather?
