  1. you are welcome and FYI my husband and I are both in our LATE 70's๐Ÿ˜‰
  2. We were at Icy Point Strait last year..it was a cold and misty day...we didn't do much research so we spent an hour or so walking around...then we walked to Hoonah, wish we had more time to spend there...we saw master totem carvers creating a HUGE totem, talked to a fisherman who told us the dock was a great place to see whales and about a fisherman's life, we stopped at a little shop with a variety of unique items, spoke to a resident about her container garden...we are going back in September to do a bear excursion....here's a link that is very informative.... https://cruisemaven.com/best-things-to-do-icy-strait-point-alaska/
  3. have you looked for a roll call? We are doing the land portion before the cruise.
  4. that's what my husband and I did and we never had to wait when we sailed on the Discovery last September. There were so many venues to eat at.
  5. We went to ISP last Sept. on a cold, rainy day. We roda the gondola to the top to catch a trams that goes through the forest and just missed the tram ..it ran hourly...there were tents available but open at both end and the wind whipped through. One fire, that security said we couldn't stand by..as it was for employees. There were several bon fires when we first got to the main area before going on the gondolas. We left, forgoing the tour as it was cold and windy and we weren't dressed for that weather. But the views from the gondola were fantastic. We took a free bus in Hoonah, a little fishing village. We went into the only touristy place that had souveniers and discovered the best find of our trip, Wild Bear Safari. We were too late to book them, but have booked them for our Sept trip. When we asked about the possibility of seeing bears with the Wild Bear Safari while talking to some of the locals they told us about bears walking down the streets. And that here on Chichagof Island, there were 2 bears to every human on the island. So they almost always saw bears. Check them out on trip advisor. We talked to locals who had gardens growing in huge pots, fishermen who went out daily, and told us Hoonah pier was a great place for whale sightings. We watched 2 elders carving a huge totem pole. While chatting with them they told us how the young people wanted to use electric tools to carve and that was not the way to carve a totem. There was a young man with them who was an apprentice. We walked back to ISP as we were cold, wet and hungry. We stopped for mini donuts and coffee at 'Oh So Goood' donuts in ISP and met a delightful Tlingit lady at a shop that sells authentic Alaskan made arts and craft. We loved our day at ISP and specifically chose a route for Sept that included it. So you don't have to book a tour to enjoy ISP. Hope this helps.
  6. Same with us...we are on the Majestic sailing on Sept 9, 2023 and the only excursions I see are when we are in ports.
  7. Oh that would freak me out....I am a tad of a germaphobic..I won't eat birthday cake if ANYONE has blown candles out on it๐Ÿ˜ ...I have missed out on a lot of birthday cakes!!
  8. that's nice...but we aren't in a suite. Perhaps going for lunch might be a better option for us
  9. Thanks, that is the same location that the Bistro was on Discovery and being wide open and the constant flow of foot traffic made it loud. Didn't seem very cozy
  10. That is really disappointing...I was hoping to spend some time there while going to Hubbard Glacier and Glacier Bay. Thanks
  11. Oh a strong chlorine odor isn't pleasant at all! ๐Ÿ˜ Sounds like I really need to try the lamb chops. Thanks
  12. OMG I am starting to drool! ๐Ÿ˜ Thank you..please feel free to offer any suggestions or hints! I soak it all up.
  13. Thanks ...we ate at the Crown Grill twice..the first time it was a great experience. The last time, last year on the Discovery...not great. I have not tried the lamb chops. But I might this time. Again thanks
  14. WOW thank you for responding with great info. I love there is no charge for the beautiful Conservatory. The food at the Bistro sounds very yummy. How is the duck prepared?? Again thank you
  15. I have a bazillon but will start with these. I know the answers have been postedon CC many, many times. I am just not savvy enough to find them and please don't tell me to use the search function as it hates me๐Ÿ˜› 1. What is the charge for the Hollywood Conservatory? 2. What is the charge for specialty dining? 3. Do all the speciality dining venues charge the same? 4. If you could only chose 1 specialty restaurant, which one would you chose and why. Thanks๐Ÿ˜
  16. Iโ€™m loyal to the person who does the initial booking and I want them to get the commission. Ditto ...our CVP is wonderful and I wouldn't change after her doing all the work.
  17. If you have done this please give me your experience. The reviews go from 1* to 5*...it's 5 1/2 hrs and I think it might be a lot of boat time instead of and equal amount of land time. Thanks
  18. Has anyone taken this tour at Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge? CHULITNA GORGE TOUR (5 1/2 hrs)...if so what was your experience? thanks
  19. We are aware of that and are OK with it.
  20. Thanks...we have sailed on Princess twice to Alaska but this is the first time we have been able to do the land part and the first time (hopefully) we get to go to Glacier Bay. I agree most people on Cruise Critic as so very helpful and answer the same questions again and again.
  21. Thanks, since I am often cold when the younger ones are not I will make sure I have my coat on!
  22. Thank you for your reply. I love the idea of sending some luggage straight to the ship. Again thank you for the information.
  23. That is the cabin we have booked L101 on the Majestic and our family have L103. We were told that the views are fantastic for Hubbard Glacier and Glacier Natl Park. I have only experienced motion sickness once while in a storm. But will take meds just in case. Thank you for your reply.
