Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. In port today at Kusadasi on the Regent Navigator and did a tour of Ephesus and the Terrace Houses. The steps are not difficult but there are many of them and it is steep. The steps are metal and have railings. The most difficult part was coming down on stone steps with little support. Here are a few photos.
  2. We were on the Koningsdam a couple of weeks ago. We had a Neptune suite with comes with Club Orange. The first night we decided to eat in the Club Orange dining room. We wanted to have a drink before dinner but decided we can order it while in the dining room and drink it before we eat. They do have a drinks menu in the restaurant. We told the waiter we would like martinis before dinner. We ordered those as well as our dinner. A few minutes later our starters arrived. We asked where our martinis were, and the waiter said they were coming from the bar. We ate our starters and still had no martinis. A few minutes later our main courses came. Still no martinis. We finally got the martinis after consuming a few bites of our dinner. We did order a couple of glasses of wine with came well before our martinis. Lesson learned…If you want a drink before dinner get it yourself from the bar. We did that for the remainder of the trip. The Ocean bar is just across from the CO dining room.
  3. I was just able to access our bording passes on the Navigator app and they are marked as priority boarding. I guess that means nothing.☹️
  4. We already booked and paid for parking so that is a done deal. It is fairly expensive but probably comparable to parking at SeaTac airport.
  5. Does anyone have any experience parking at Canada Place for their cruise? We are driving to the cruise port for this one. We reserved and pre-paid for the parking months ago. Just curious about logistics and any other issues folks may have experienced. We were just able today to get our boarding time which is 11:00 AM Aug 26th.
  6. There must be some sort of system issues on the Holand America side. I have been trying to log on via my app on iPhone this morning and keep getting the message "There was an error with login, please try again. (04ED30C2)" I have been able to log on to my account on a PC however.
  7. Thanks, this will be a driving trip for us. We are about 2 ½ hours from Vancouver. When we factored in the time getting to the airport, the check in time etc., the flight time, the time at Vancouver airport and the time getting to the hotel/cruise port, it will save us a boatload of time just driving.
  8. I am curious if having TSA pre or Global Entry would work on these government lines.
  9. We are out of Vancouver in a couple of weeks on the Koningsdam. We have booked a Neptune Suite and according to everything I have read we should get some sort of priority check-in and disembarkation. I have seen some mixed reviews about this. We sailed on HAL back in 2003 so for all intents and purposes we are newbies on HAL Can anyone who has been through Vancouver comment on this? It appears that the sailing is at capacity, so I am expecting the cruise port to be crowded.
  10. Thanks I should have done a bit more research before asking the question. I found the following on the Regent website. Dining reservations may be reserved online beginning 75 days before your cruise sails, or 90 days for guests eligible for our Concierge Amenities, at 8pm Eastern US Time. To do so, please create an account via the My Account section of our website and access the Dining Reservations link for your cruise via your Booked Cruises. Guests may pre-book one dinner reservation in each specialty restaurant prior to sailing, then subsequent reservations may be made on board, space dependent. Multiple pre-booked reservations in each restaurant are permitted only on Grand Voyages, with one reservation allotted per voyage segment. Guests may contact the Maître D' once onboard to request additional reservations, if available. Compass Rose and Sette Mari At La Veranda do not require reservations.
  11. Our dining reservation window opens up today at 8 PM ET for an October sailing on the Navigator. This being our first Regent cruise I am not too sure about the whole process. We are in a Concierge Suite. It is my understanding, and I could be wrong, is that there are 2 restaurants that are available for reservations, Prime 7 and Sette Mari at La Veranda. The MDR Compass Rose is not pre-bookable. If anyone could comment on this, it would be appreciated. The cruise is still 12 weeks out and we are not sure what we will feel like eating at this point. If we do book reservations are these changeable once on board?
  12. Any tips on tipping? Is there an amount that people usually give? Do people tip in the local currency? in my case Euro or Turkish LIra. Is tipping in USD OK?
  13. We are doing our first Regent cruise (Bosphorus Beauty & The Black Sea) in October. Having not sailed on Regent before, I am curious if there is any protocol on tipping the guides on the shore excursions. I know that Regent states that gratuities are included for the ship personnel, but I haven’t been able to find much on tipping the shore excursion guides. I hoping there are some seasoned Regent cruisers who can comment on this.
