  1. Hi Swells - I just got off the NCL Getaway this weekend. The original schedule had us going to Puerto Plata - that changed while at sea. In fact the schedule changed so much that i had the same excursion cancelled three times (yea i know is that even possible? lol) needless to say we went into Amber Cove and it was nice for a few hours. If you like rum - holy cow the prices are incredible - don't buy on the ship. I picked up three 750ml's of rum for under 25 American dollars. Have fun on your Cruise !!!!
  2. wow Keith -- that's how the Brits treat someone new to this board? Thankfully your over there man while we're here in Florida and have 5 cruise ports to choose from in one state. Get you plane ticket man - nobody cruises out of the one Cruise port in the UK. Wish you the best of luck chasing your dreams!! 😁
  3. I just got off a 7 day cruise - I saw a total of one family eating in the American diner throughout the week. I looked at the menu -- um -- everything you can get elsewhere for free. The cruise staff was just standing around fiddling their thumbs. The waiters and waitresses work so hard but working in the American Diner must be easy street. No stress cause nobody eats here. Enjoy the food -- Just got off the Getaway and all the restaurants were incredible.
  4. To me the biggest hoax is the advertising of free wi fi -- yes you do get free wi fi - a whole 150 minutes? LOL i mean seriously -- all the Millennials were all lined up to spend their money on an internet upgrade. It was funny.... NCL makes big bucks on the internet upgrade after advertising free wi fi - I personally didn't upgrade and I'm thankful I didn't because the WiFi was so so so slow. Bring your laptop if you need to check your email, otherwise kick back, have a drink and enjoy your vacation and fight off your internet addiction. Have fun on your cruise - we loved it..
  5. Dress code is not a big issue on NCL - True the French Restaurant has a dress code but I just ate there this past week with a polo shirt and a pair of kakis' Far gone are the days of even a "Formal" Evening which I'm thankful for. It was a major hassle having to drag along formal clothes just to go to dinner one night - Enjoy - hope your son enjoys too!!!
  6. I just got off a cruise this weekend on the "Getaway" - we were on a 7 day trip - we had two specialty dining evenings included. To be honest it was enough. The Food throughout the ship was incredible. Of course the specialty dining is a cut above and i would suggest Cagneys over all other restaurants. If this is your first cruise I would suggest you try all the venues before getting hooked into all the upgrades. Have fun !!!
