  1. To Henry, aka Able Seaman H...found on post #236:

You have summed up so much of what Jim is doing on this tribute cruise to Carol. Your words and thoughts are beautiful and heartfelt.

To Jim: for some, grieving is a personal and closed process. How blessed I feel that you decided to take all of us along on Carol's final cruise. Thank you for showing me that healing comes in many forms. Enjoy the rest of your cruise my friend, and I hope to one day meet you on a future cruise and give you a hug!

  2. Oh, I love Joseph! He was on the Glory a few years ago when we had one of our family cruises. Our party of 10 was seated in one of the big round tables in the middle of the dining room. He always come by the table, talked with the kids, and was the best part of our dinnr each evening.

I am sailing the Inspiration in November, and it would be a blast to see him again! Definitely one of the best.

  3. I booked a deck7 corner aft cabin for Feb......when I booked there were 3 of us sailing. Now, I think there will only be my daughter and I. This is a 3 person cabin......has anyone heard of people getting bumped when this happens.

Should I keep the third person on the Reservation until the last possible moment (when full payment due)......take her off now, and keep my fingers crossed, or not worry about it?

Well, I had 3 balcony cabins (not aft) side by side, with the middle room for a party of 3, which is what the room was described for. When it was changed to 3 cabins of 2 each, we were moved out of the middle balcony as we only had 2 people and no longer 3 in that cabin...and moved down the hall from the other 2 cabins. So - my guess is that it may happen...although perhaps an aft balcony may be a bit more protected from the dreaded "bump".

  4. What an awesome and uplifting post! I understand your pain, having lost my mother only 3 years ago. My mother was buried per her wishes with the rest of her family, but she loved to cruise and we wanted to do something for her.

On the first anniversary of her death, I went on a cruise on one of her favorite ships with my sister and my aunt. We contacted the purser's desk as we had some dried flowers from her funeral that we wanted to toss overboard. We were not even sure it was allowed, but they approved our request as we each had only a single rose that had been dried and preserved.

As with the OP, they brought us to the back of the ship as we were leaving Cococay. They allowed us time to hold hands, and say a prayer. When we looked up, several crew members joined us in singing Amazing Grace. It was a powerful moment when we tossed the roses and said goodbye to momma.

I was grateful to RCCL for their understanding and their allowing us to do this for my mom.

  5. Sailing in September, and getting lots of great tips and info here!

    My questions are as follows:

    1. I read that tickets for the Ice Show go very quickly and should be reserved ahead of time. Can this be done prior to sailing? Or if not, how soon once on board?

    2. Any other shows need prior reservations?

Thanks to mojomanny for a fantastic link! I printed the excursions, and have been reading the dailies...I am so excited! The closer I get to my cruise, the more excited I am getting! We booked this cruise while on the Monarch LAST YEAR, so I have been waiting quite a while....and counting down to September!

  6. Dont know if anyone has posted this or not, but the Samantha Brown Great Cruises episode on Freedom of the Seas will be on the Travel Channel this Friday (2/5) at 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. I saw it a few years ago and told my husband then that I wanted to go on that ship. And now we are.

Thanks for the heads up! I am sailing on the FOTS this September and I am so looking forward to it! It will be my first week-long cruise with Royal (all of the others have been weekenders) - so that only adds to the excitement. I'll be sure to set my DVR..thanks again!

  7. I'm not sailing the Freedom of the Seas until September, but now that it is 2010 - I can truly start my countdown!

This will be my first Platinum cruise, and my first week-long cruise with Royal. All others have been weekenders so that makes me even more excited! I have read that the two experiences cannot really be compared.

I am really looking forward to the Promenade and to the parade! And the dinners, and the shows, and everything else in-between. Woo-hoo!

  8. I will be going on my 9th and 10th cruise this year, and I think I will be joing the ranks of the journal group. I wish I had journaled before now, but I have always kept lots of notes, and I have lots of entries in my scrapbooks. I just recently finished a journal for my kids where you answer specific questions, and after reading these posts, I am anxious to journal my cruises.

    Great idea, and great tips....
