  1. Y'll are making me think I need to eventually get another wedding ring. Mine is precisely what I wanted. One of those ones with stones allllll the way around. And it alternates sapphire and diamond. But those darn stones stick into my other fingers and are uncomfortable.
  2. This person wasn't genuinely maintenance. He was obviously hoping that the adjoining cabin was empty in order to try to get access to the pre-teen through the connecting door. When someone answered he just said something to cover for why he was pounding on the door. Either that was the first time that crew went into the cabin areas, or it just wasn't noticed on the cameras. There are a lot of cameras and isn't like each one has one person watching that camera. The person watching the feeds will be looking for particular things, not a crew member in the wrong area. I don't blame Royal. They claimed that they took care of the problem, and that the family wouldn't be seeing that person again, and they didn't. But, knowing that the criminal would be easily identified because of the cameras, doesn't help the victim. ETA: I told my family about this, and we brainstormed what to do. The girl had trouble sleeping for the rest of the cruise because she was scared he'd come in at night since he knew their cabin.
  3. I have an extremely responsible 13-year-old who is pretty free-range. It wasn't her I was worried about, it was all those people. I assume that anytime there is a large # of people, guaranteed some will be sickos. So, for us, I invited one of her friends to come along. DD would be joined at the hip to the friend unless they were in the cabin or with us. An online friend of mine from another forum, her daughter was targeted by a sicko on Royal earlier this year. I don't remember if she mentioned it here or not. A crew member asked her preteen's phone number and then followed her back to the cabin. The preteen locked herself in the cabin, and then the crew member then pounded on the adjoining door and pretended like that cabin had asked for maintenance. Fortunately her dad was napping in there.
  4. I wonder if Royal doesn't like people using WiFi-Calling, and that is why they reacted like it was a weird idea.
  5. My only confusion is why he still has an apartment. Since he isn't changing ships, there is nothing stopping him from setting up a nice work space in his cabin. Speaking of being cramped, college dorm living is something I never understood even when I was in college. This seems light years better. Yet, dorm living is accepted as a normal way of life.
  6. An annual plan is sounding pretty good. The odds of us needing to use the insurance more than once per year is exceedingly small. We have three trips planned next year, but only one cruise and it is the first. We always drive. I'll have to look at the price difference. I had liked the 90% FCC for any reason with Royal's plan.
  7. The stairs are the only thing holding me back from doing slides more than I do. I love them, and I'm used to the line being me and all the pre-teens. In fact, when picking our cruise, dates and itineraries were wide open, within the drive-able departing ports, it was amenities/price and I eliminated any ship that didn't have a water slide an adult could use,
  8. You know, flying is so miserable lately, that if that cruise were free and all I had to pay for was the flight, I wouldn't go. Long, miserable expensive flight to go to the Caribbean. If the benefit was worthwhile, I'd fly.
  9. How would anyone know if you passed someone cash? I guess you could ask your cabin attendant if they are required to turn over cash tips.
  10. This would stink! The cruise starts and ends in Panama, and goes to the Caribbean? I would think that the only market for that cruise would be those living near Panama. I wonder, would travel insurance help cover the cost beyond what Royal is covering? That is like placing an order for a new Cadillac, and getting a Kia. Caribbean cruises are nice, I have one booked, but it isn't equivalent to a Panama Canal Cruise. So, I'd consider that a flat cancellation.
  11. I recently bought a flavored variation of hard cider at Trader Joe's. Do you remember when wine coolers came out, before you had one, what you thought a wine cooler would taste like? That is what that hard cider tasted like.
  12. Sometimes those people that answer the phones aren't the brightest. I remember once changing the date on my flight from Dallas, TX to Manchester, England. The AA agent changed my flight to Manchester ... I forget, somewhere in New England. I never noticed, and fortunately I had to change the date again and I also said "England" in the second change. So, that agent noticed the city change. You do think when you say, "I just want to change this one aspect" that the others will stay the same.
  13. I heard that the "Apple a day keeps the doctor away" was pushed during Prohibition. There were all these apple trees no longer being used for cider.
  14. I am curious, was it? Or is this like CPAP supplies that aren't actually there until you ask when you get to your room? Note, I still plan on asking ahead since then they can't say "Sorry, we ran out. Too bad you didn't tell us in advance"
  15. I'd also recommend taking the I Don't Want To Get Sick Vitamins.
  16. Well, if it wasn't a mistake and it is SOP now to put skim milk in an container labeled half and half, "lie" wouldn't have been the word I'd use, but I wouldn't argue against it.
  17. I wouldn't have thought that to be productive. The higher ups will be in Glad Hand and Then Move On mode. I'd expect an answer like, "I'll look into that." There are too many people on the cruise to let each button-hole the president. Maybe some people might get lucky.
  18. But, that is the question, is it really a mistake? There are lots of reports of this happening, and this is the President's Cruise when you'd think they've have their act together.
  19. I have really long hair. I always need two big towels since I need one for my hair. I would not be happy if they expect me to use just one towel per shower. If the towels aren't that big, I'll need three. At hotels, they always seem to leave the cart in the hall and I snag a bunch of towels there. I can understand people not wanting towels and trash in the hallway. I hadn't thought that would be a problem, but then we went to Orlando several times while the hotels were ramping back after the lockdown. Pre-lockdown, the hallway might have been one room service tray every 50', and that wasn't a problem. But, post-lockdown you had to walk like a drunk weaving between the piles of trash, dirty dishes, and dirty towels, and you had to pay close attention to the stuff to avoid it. So, I wouldn't really want to see that on a cruise. But, on the other hand, that should be easy on the staff to do frequent hallway sweeps for stuff. Speaking of towels, we will be bringing two teen girls. Enough said.
  20. My DH likes half-and-half for tea, and gets grumpy if it isn't available. I guess I'll have to add it to our pack list. I wonder if that will count against our non-alcoholic beverage allotment? We'll have a soft cooler for DD's medicine, so we can keep it cool.
  21. But they do use Waitlisting for the dining selection. I guess you are saying that they probably overbook each dining slot by the same percentage. I am one of those early-to-bed people, so not having early dining would ruin the cruise, seriously. Late dining starts about when I got to bed. And it would be stressful wondering what the MTD dining situation would be each night for the 8 of us. I've seen photos of friends in the MDR where there were too many people at the table because an extra chair or two were added. Like our friends in a group of 7 and the table was much smaller than the one for 8 next to them.
  22. I'm with the OP. Wouldn't the PRESIDENT'S CRUISE be when they'd do things right? Makes me think that this is SOP now.
  23. Disney's IT is considered to be pretty crappy. But, even they have the ability to blindly link people's accounts. So, for example, you can make a dining reservation with the other person as the lead, but you couldn't see they had Magic Kingdom reservations, for example.
  24. That would be a nightmare. Early dining is around when we normally eat anyway. Plus we will be a table of 8 including 4 teen girls. (This is dismay, not disbelief) How can they do that? If someone is confirmed for a certain dining slot they should stay confirmed for that slot, and they shouldn't confirm more people than a slot can hold.
