  1. But, as it is documented and explained in T&C and confirmation, it is not clear to me if crew appreciation is for the trip or just the HIA package items. Of course when I purchased I assumed it was for the trip not just HIA.
  2. So... what do you think that this means, this is a break down of my HIA. Description Guest Included 7-Day Surf Wifi Hia Promo 1,2 Signature Beverage Pkg Hia Promo 1,2 Shore Excursion Discount H I A1: 1,2 1 Night Spec Dining H I A Promo2:1,2 Pre-Paid Crew Appreciation Promo: 1,2
  3. I think HIA does include service charges. It did on mine.
  4. Wifi calling needs to be enabled for sure and your carrier must support SMSand/or MMS over wifi. I will report back.
  5. It is Jaco Pastorius and it is very far from Rock and Roll. 1/2 of those songs seem like really odd choices. Interesting, but odd. Be interesting to see what else they play and how often they duplicate.
  6. Get past all their vocals.... LMAO. Yikes. Still entertaining, but the falsetto/female stinks. All of them are pitchy. They really need to tune their voices and instruments better. Also good cover bands really try to mimic even the solos, the guitar player was no where near close. They should put that song away for a while. I wont let it affect my opinion of NS. After all I have already paid. 😉
  7. Would the reviewer have given the same bad review if the staff were all Dutch and only spoke Dutch? At some level, I would hope that most staff on a cruise that are customer facing can speak English. On another note, thanks for reminding me to download translators to Malay and Indo before I go!
  8. I do not think this is true, I can send texts over Wifi, no problem. Can also call over Wifi. I have no problems sending texts in airplane mode with WIFI on. Done it from home and from 35,000' Altitude. Android and Samsung Galaxy S21+ Ultra. There could be some reason that this does not work on the ship, won't know until Feb 19.
  9. https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/cruise-ships/ms-nieuw-statendam/0.html Start there if you have not already. Search CC using a web browser, you can also search "this forum" to just search the HAL forum as well. I.e. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/search/?q="world stage"&quick=1&type=forums_topic&nodes=103
  10. There is a ton of information about this here on cruise critic and on the HAL site. BBC earth, BBC earth + Lincoln Center performers, Dance Company with graphics on the large curved screen, etc. Sometimes comedians. All depends on who the ship has hired for your cruise. In my research of NS (have not been on HAL for 20 years, but booked for Feb '23), main theatre reviews are mixed.
  11. It is hard for me to believe much in that review, there is not enough detail in all the one star review of individual items to make it seem typical.
  12. If you talk to your Dr and he/she approves you for use if you test positive all your comments are inaccurate and irrelevant. People have said on this board, that they cannot get it on the ship.
  13. I don't completely disagree, but I am sailing with a disabled wife. The cabana is a big deal to us, I will be extremely disappointed if I am notified that it has been booked by someone else that is "more important". We won't let it ruin the vacation, but it will very likely mean that we spend more time in venues where we won't have the same level of service.
  14. Perhaps it is because people order 2-6 of the lobster tails leaving them out for other quests and other meals or perhaps they are not making money when people order 6 lobster tails?
  15. Here is a good example of one method used to keep EB from being overdone on a buffet. What it leads to is overdone bottom of the muffin and not even toasted top. These muffins were obviously not toasted and likely not even warm. https://www.hollandamerica.com/blog/archived/cruise-diary-the-eggs-benedict-dilemma/
  16. If you were at the table next to them, how could you miss the waiter bringing them 2nds and 3rds?
  17. Letting EB sit under the heat necessary to remain servable would mean that the muffin and bacon quickly become inedible (i.e. you cannot cut with fork or dinner knife) it would require a steak knife. The egg yolk will become hard not runny. Not my idea of a decent EB.
  18. I would not expect airlines to decrease prices on flights in the foreseeable future. Shop around to get the best deal and then book it, my opinion. But this is major carriers, I do not have any experience with budget or chartered lines.
  19. Perhaps formal nights happen on longer cruises and the book covers all?
  20. No one cares what you wear red. We keep posting the recommendations of HAL on dressy code. The dressy code is documented. We also recommend our opinion of dress code. You take objection to these comments because you think that you are conversing Elitist when we are really just people having fun, dressing up and making the most of our vacation, that *could* be our last. What GS recommends is whatever will make you happy, they are giving you their opinion, not linking or reading HAL documented dress codes... like us. Just go for your best convenient attire that is comfortable|, simple. "Wear what you want" is not anywhere in their recommendations. Perhaps HAL might start charging for a WWYW package. 😉
  21. I doubt it. I think he would be wearing a different uniform than on the bridge and if he goes to the main dining room it will either be his formal uniform or a uniform different than his daily.
