  1. WOW! Both Patton's and Rommel's granddaughters were at the dedication. Thanks for this. Yours, Claudia
  2. Your mention of water level of Lake Constance brought back such fond memories of spending four day in Friedrichshafen more than a few years ago. On another trip, we spent a few days in Stein am Rhein which we also enjoyed. Your recent mention of Rhine Falls brought to mind that I didn't know about it! Maybe this is a reason to return to this area and experience it. Thank you so much for all your great insights. Yours, Claudia
  3. We are going to be in Basel for Monday of Fasnacht. Not sure if I am getting up for the start at 4 am. Is there anything special I should learn to try to shout? Keep in mind, my German is limited. Looking forward to our two days in Basel before going to Viking Tialfi on Sunday. I just hope that Lufthansa get us there through Munich without any problems on Thursday. I am REALLY looking forward to this trip and have never done a Carnival in Europe before.
  4. Thanks for posting this link. The article did a good job of reaffirming my decision to take the "Treasures of the Rhine" cruise. I have been watching the weather from Basel to Amsterdam and I found it much warmer than what we are having. I still plan to bring my thermal underwear just in case especially for the long walking tours. We did the "Elegant Elbe" last year in early March and once again, it was warmer than at home. We after definitely looking forward to this trip that I am sure will be memorable. Yours, Claudia
  5. I totally loved the pictures that you just posted! Thank you greatly. Yours, Claudia
  6. I agree about having the correct foot ware. I live on a small horse farm, and it was -11c when I went to the barn this morning. About a week ago, we had 46cm of snow and had another 7cm yesterday. We are used to the cold and snow. I am unsure of what Viking has planned for Koblenz since nothing is listed in shore excursions. We are not doing some of the excursions such as Heidelburg since we have stayed there, and I have little desire to sit on a bus. Our goal is to relax and enjoy. Yours, Claudia
  7. Glad to see your 2024 Rhine Water levels! We are on the Viking Tialfi on February 18th so watching everything carefully. We are hoping for the best. I totally agree no hill climbing/castle visiting in the snow. I know only too well how easy it is to fall and Hubby is on a cane. Canes DO NOT like the snow. Once again, thanks for your new thread. Yours, Claudia
  8. Hopefully that is where the Tialfi can dock in February when we are aboard. It is half way between the cathedral and the chocolate museum. It has been more than a few years since we have been in Cologne. Hubby used to regularly have conferences in Cologne.
  9. We are excited about our cruise and especially that we will be in Basel for Fasnacht 2024. We are definitely hoping that the river flooding issues settles down. We are flexible and I am sure we will have a great time. Thanks for your input.
  10. We are doing the Treasures of the Rhine from Basel to Amsterdam on the Viking Tialfi February 18th to the 27th so I am carefully looking at your input. Are you going to change your input for 2024? I want to make sure I don't miss it.
