  1. I believe it is a uniquely Aussie term.😁 I may be wrong, but possibly it can be extended to 'going off like a pork chop in the sun'.🤣
  2. If I have offended or upset anyone, that was never my intent and I apologise. Accordingly, I will be making no further comment on this particular subject.
  3. According to the Coroner's report her blood alcohol reading was .127, not a hugely debilitating amount.
  4. That's true, Aus Traveller. I have over a period of time read everything I can get my hands (eyes?) on regarding that case. Passenger screening prior to boarding was nowhere near as tight as it is nowadays so the drugs these men took on board were not detected. I can understand your reluctance, lyndarra. However, incidents/crimes (not necessarily deaths) have occurred on just about every ship and may not necessarily have been handled well by the authorities. Given the millions of passengers cruising each year worldwide, I would venture to say that incidences of serious crimes are relatively low.
  5. I think we were reasonably safe on that occasion as the 'adults only' rule was fairly strictly enforced. These days on P&O we usually opt for Byron Beach Club and have not observed any kids in the club pool or hot tub.
  6. I'll put my hand up for that one!!!! One time we decided to give Mystery Island a miss and made good use of the spa tubs in the adults only area. Bliss!
  7. I take it you can't get a late check out time from the hotel?
  8. Was a previous occupant of the cabin Spider Man?😁
  9. We too thought Dawnie looked incredibly big, Leigh!😂 When we first spotted Encounter we thought she looked small. Understandable since our cruise prior to that was on Symphony of the Seas! Must say I prefer the smaller ships. Cee
  10. We were always fans of Dawnie. I agree Encounter lacks that special something that Dawn had.
  11. P&O at this stage is still having staggered times as is the norm for them, though on our last cruise we arrived about an hour early (one can NEVER predict the traffic on the M1 so one is either very early or very late☹️) and were waved straight through to be processed. Nice surprise as we fully expected to twiddle our thumbs for an hour.
  12. Oh, come on! They were complaining about losing a few hours, when another human being could have lost his life?! Some people disgust me with their lack of compassion and basic human decency.
  13. House must have won big, because from memory that particular couple scored a free suite.
  14. Obviously they could afford to 'lose' $5000 per cruise. Frankly, I'd rather spend that sort of money on multiple cruises rather than hope to 'beat the house' in the casino. But then again, I'm not a gambler so can't really see the attraction.
  15. I agree. We are constantly coming across rude passengers
  16. On our last cruise we were talking to a couple who scored a free room for a 7 day cruise via the players' club. I don't think that particular cruise was undersold as it appeared to be 'sold out' around a month or six weeks prior to sailing. Either way, a free room is pretty impressive.🙂
  17. Yep, the ill informed keyboard warriors are always with us. We were on a cruise a while back where tragically a passenger intentionally went overboard and was never recovered. The absolute garbage posted about it was disgusting. Everything from her partner threw her overboard, a large wave washed her overboard (from deck 16? That would be some wave) to her leaning over the rail to throw up and losing her balance. CCTV footage released to the police upon the ship's return to Australia proved conclusively that this unfortunate lady took a running a jump over the rail. Prior to that social media was awash with alleged 'eye witness' reports stating the above inaccurate accounts.
  18. We've read reviews of cruises that we were actually on and couldn't believe these people writing totally negative reviews were on the same ship at the same time. This has happened on just about any cruise we have been on. The complaint that all the crew were rude (as an example) beggars belief! We have never encountered a rude crew member ever. Quite the opposite. One wonders if the person making the complaint had a less than pleasant attitude themselves.🙄 And I would suggest they have never worked in hospitality or customer service. We have worked in both back in the day and let me tell you it takes a supreme effort to keep the smile and upbeat attitude in place when confronted with less than polite customers.
  19. Absolutely. And then they write a stinker of a review whining about the minutiae.
  20. Yep, always as a matter of course, we have photocopies of our passports tucked in our wallets.
  21. As we always say 'take a good time with you and that's what you'll have'. Works for us!
  22. Yes, you're right Idubs. I'm thinking of things like cancelled ports or excursions due to things beyond the control of the cruise line, with such events being covered in the T&Cs. People still carry on like pork chops and wail 'we didn't know/weren't told ahead of time'.
