Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. As long as Saga don't go down the same route as when Carnival took P&O over .. soooo many awful changes as time moved on and now, well that's why so many of us moved away from them and sooo happy we did.
  2. Thank God we made the move to Saga and yes the drinks are free but you never ever see anyone over the top or drunk. Delightful passengers with good manners, excellent service and superb meals. yes it cost a little more but we were always suite passengers so the price difference is small but Oh my goodness how P&O have gone done the tube since Carnival took them over.
  3. Been there done it, take your ear plugs unless you like hearing clumping of feet from 6 am til 1am the following day
  4. Having travelled many times on both since launch, things are looking bleak for both these ships. I have to say I always had a preference for Arcadia but oh she has gone downhill so much, but Aurora is older so which one is going first and when do you think.
  5. Having cruised with P&O for 30 plus years we have recently moved across to Saga and the difference on all counts is wonderful. P&O are only interested in piling there ships high with cheap fares which has reduced the quality of offer immeasurably and, the standard of passenger now sailing with them has dropped to a low degree.Yes of course there are many decent passengers on board but they are so outweighed by those who enjoy nose picking contests, changing the baby's nappy on the dining room table, even urinating in the lift. As for the food offer oh my goodness that has gone so far downhill even in the speciality restaurants. So in my opinion the move across to Saga has been the right decision and after 3 cruises this year the service by the staff, the excellent dining experiences and entertainment has been bounds ahead of P&O, so would I recommend switching over to Saga the answer is definitely. P&O is no longer the P&O of years ago, it's become a cheap Butlins type of cruise line and if you like that, then fine.
  6. Sorry to say but cruising this time of year is always a bit of a gamble especially transatlantic to the Caribbean and indeed the bay of Biscay. Don't think we should blame Saga for the weather, it's life.
  7. Just had the call.😃
  8. Pre-registered in March 23, not heard yet and wondered if they call over the weekend
  9. We live in Portsmouth and join the SoA on 31st October and wonder what is the earliest embarkation time for us to arrive. Thanks
  10. This business about tables being close together on Saga is a joke, yes there are some close particularly in the buffet which frankly many enjoy but there are loads in the MDR which are set out with plenty of space between them. I have just returned from a 2 week cruise on the SoA and it was amazing especially when compared to the cruising on P&O. P&O in days gone by used to be magnificent but sadly not any longer. However you get what you pay for and P&O are selling it cheap and piling it high now, so if you like that then fine for you.
  11. When we arrive at the embarkation terminal in Dover tomorrow, do we need to present any documents apart from Passports and Insurance policy. Thanks
  12. Well, I have just read through all the comments relating cruising with Saga and very happy with the majority of answers, My husband and I have been cruising solely with P&O for nearly 30 years and are Ligurian tier but have made the decision to move across to Saga after hearing so many wonderful reports from their passengers since we became interested earlier this year. We haven't given up on P&O but from now on it will be Aurora and possibly Arcadia while they are still around. I think the ships such as Iona are super in lots of respects but I hate to say it but the clientele have change so much now that they are offering cruises so cheaply in order to fill their ships, apart from Aurora. So we are off on Monday for our first Saga cruise and have booked another 6 which will fit in with our pre booked P&O Aurora cruises for 24/25. It is disappointing that P&O have dropped so far down the pecking order from where they used to be so like many other former fans, we are off.
  13. Oh! one other thought, do we tip the taxi driver and if so what sort of amount .. thanks
  14. Off on our first saga adventure on Monday and wondered when and if the taxi firm will telephone to confirm pick up time .. not heard yet. Also as we have a 150 mile travel to Dover, what to do if the taxi doesn't turn up .. just me paranoid.
