Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Thanks! Went ahead and booked my 2nd solo trip as well, next December on MSC to go with a trip to see family.
  2. Good review, thanks for sharing! Just booked my second solo trip after learning about the YC inside rooms and good to see the experience is pretty positive.
  3. Doing a solo 12 day from the Dominican on NCL next March. Curious which ports are definite "get off the boat" and which ones might be better enjoyed poolside on the ship for a day of rest. My general plan will be to hop off, spend 4-5 hours, when we have it, exploring on my own. Likely finding a museum/historic site close by for a few hours, some local food (street food/market stalls especially), wandering around and back to the ship. Not really interested in packaged shore excursions. I am spending time in the DR before and after, likely doing my dive cert there and at least one dive trip. Our ports are: Willemsted, Curacao (2PM-8PM); Oranjestad, Aruba (6AM-1PM); St Georges, Grenada (3PM-8PM). Rest are (8AM-5PM): Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago; Bridgetown, Barbados; Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines; Castires St Lucia; St Johns, Antigua; Bassterre, St Kitts; Philipsburg, St Maarten. And 7AM-3PM Tortola, BVI. (The 3 bolded fall on the Friday-Sunday Easter weekend, if that affects anything in port.
  4. So far the math seems to be working out - my bottles of water are around $20-25/day; say two of the premium glasses of wine at dinner etc. Just curious with the fewer options - like a dedicated whiskey bar - if it limits what you have available.
  5. Sailing on the Sky out of the DR next March, curious if ,given the smaller/older ship and fewer options, it's worth considering taking the upgrade on the already included FAS package? Biggest uses for me would be: - Starbucks and bottles of San Pellegrino (last cruise I was on, I ended up getting 3-4 bottles of Pellegrino through the day) - Whiskey: without a dedicated whiskey bar, are the premium Single Malts (Talisker 10, readily available? - Wine: wouldn't mind trying some nicer wines at dinner, but hearing mixed reviews on what's actually on offer. Solo cruising, so not sure how useful the bottle discounts will be though there is a thought to getting a nice bottle and splitting it over a few dinners if they save and tag it for you. The upgraded FAS also gives me the 2 extra SDPs, which I wouldn't mind eying menus and reviews. Vacation is also going to be about 3 1/2 weeks total with stays before and after, so the unlimited wifi for messaging family isn't bad either.
  6. My last experience was tagging along and sharing a suite with my parents in my early 20s. So definitely looking forward to my own trip at 38.
  7. So for La Cucina, does the pasta course essentially count as the salad/soup?
  8. After a grueling year and a half grind for my Paramedic program, looking at the light at the end of the tunnel and planning some much needed vacation time to celebrate. Booked the 12 night out of La Romana, DR next march. Have enough vacation accrual so I'll be doing 5 nights before the cruise and 7 after at two different hotels/resorts in the area. Looking forward to reading through the tips here and making the most of the trip.
