well it seemed  to be a demanding sort of entitled attitude.... get me this, get me that..  Since they paid for everything  they wanted it now....  Get it for me boy....chop chop. I( actual heard  some one say that.)    That is an my take

More people who wanted their hand held, whereas on O it was more a low key substile appreciation and less demanding.

One guy insisted every night that the dining room have a special meal  ...his design... not the menu  French on night Indian banquet another... and so on

Now in fairness  there were some great people...it just seemed however a different demographic/socio  group.

Attitude?  That's a good one.  As frequent Regent cruisers you have reassured me that we made the right choice in cancelling our first O cruise.

many definitions and discussions of origin but here is a simple one:

A "Karen" is a woman who acts entitled, expects certain privileges or special treatment, and gets angered easily. The term is often used to criticize the behavior of self-absorbed white, affluent, and middle-aged women, but may also be applied to anybody being "extra", or acting demanding and overly dramatic.  - slangit

Thank you for that annoying explanation. Depending on the miscreants, I guess you could also have a full blown Graciella or Tawanda. This stuff never ends. When there are no consequences for behavior the full blowns will continue to get their own way.

  3. I'm mystified why the Captain is not in control of the ship. Make an example of the offenders. In the event of a maritime/ shipboard emergency, these are the same VIPS who will be disregarding their emergency muster stations and shoving their way into other peoples' places. The whole idea of this discussion is horrible.  Let the Captain step out onto the pool deck a couple of times and personally move all this chair saving junk.....and we all recognize it when we see it. I would imagine there would be a round of applause and perhaps curb this behavior.

  4. It' pretty annoying that even with reduced capacity, this lack of enforcement still goes on. At least once on every cruise I have no problem with dragging a long unattended lounge chair out of the way and replacing it with one that is empty if that's the area we want to sit in. I'm not sure if this is true or not but maybe we aren't tipping the right people. There has been quite an eye opening discussion going for awhile on a Regent FB group about how much tipping is happening. I really had no idea about some of this.

Somewhat overwhelmed with all the safari options out of Maputo; which safaris has everyone else chosen and how did you make your selection?

    thanks,

Although quite a bit further in, check out Makweti safari lodge. It would be the equivalent of a Regent or Silverseas cruise on land.

Given similar observations from different posters about people ignoring mask rules on buses (and presumably other places based on reports from other threads), I would suggest a talk with the GM about this.  Apparently Regent is giving mixed messages to guests about the importance of following health and safety protocols.  Why endanger crew members and fellow guests? Guests know what the Covid-related rules are, so if they don't want to follow them, then why get on a ship?

I totally agree.  Whether masks are useful or not is irrelevant to enforcement. Give those old jeans in the dining room a try.  Request an ashtray for the cabin. In case of a shipboard emergency, choose your own life boats. No consequences from Captains equal no big deal. Annoying and disappointing.

    Karen,

Thank you for your upbeat posts and lovely pics.  It is too bad that the current situation has dampened your ability to cruise as you had hoped, but it seems that you are managing to make the best of it.

Have a very happy and healthy new year, and enjoy the rest of your cruise.

    Bob

I agree.  Beautiful photos.  We have friends onboard. Do you feel that the atmosphere would be different if there were any actual consequences to those who are disregarding the protocols?

  8. My take on the OPs question is that, even though he knows what the rules and protocols are for SS, he doesn't want to bring or wear a jacket.  There certainly won't be a lack of dining choices for someone going this route but it appears that that the protocols aren't what he's hoping for.  My suggestion would be to pack and send a jacket in advance to the ship so that it is available in the cabin on embarkation day. The pesky thing could be discarded at the end of the cruise without all the angst of packing issues. Problem solved.....if that really is the problem.

The only problem with children on a cruise is that those under 12 can’t get vaccinated at this time. I hope that will soon change.

As long as the "special exceptions" clause is in place, I don't think you are going to get what you are looking for on a cruise.
