well it seemed to be a demanding sort of entitled attitude.... get me this, get me that.. Since they paid for everything they wanted it now.... Get it for me boy....chop chop. I( actual heard some one say that.) That is an my take
More people who wanted their hand held, whereas on O it was more a low key substile appreciation and less demanding.
One guy insisted every night that the dining room have a special meal ...his design... not the menu French on night Indian banquet another... and so on
Now in fairness there were some great people...it just seemed however a different demographic/socio group.
Attitude? That's a good one. As frequent Regent cruisers you have reassured me that we made the right choice in cancelling our first O cruise.

many definitions and discussions of origin but here is a simple one:
A "Karen" is a woman who acts entitled, expects certain privileges or special treatment, and gets angered easily. The term is often used to criticize the behavior of self-absorbed white, affluent, and middle-aged women, but may also be applied to anybody being "extra", or acting demanding and overly dramatic. - slangit
Thank you for that annoying explanation. Depending on the miscreants, I guess you could also have a full blown Graciella or Tawanda. This stuff never ends. When there are no consequences for behavior the full blowns will continue to get their own way.

What is a full blown Karen?

Navigator is still our favorite ship....homey and comfortable. No pretensions.

I'm mystified why the Captain is not in control of the ship. Make an example of the offenders. In the event of a maritime/ shipboard emergency, these are the same VIPS who will be disregarding their emergency muster stations and shoving their way into other peoples' places. The whole idea of this discussion is horrible. Let the Captain step out onto the pool deck a couple of times and personally move all this chair saving junk.....and we all recognize it when we see it. I would imagine there would be a round of applause and perhaps curb this behavior.

It' pretty annoying that even with reduced capacity, this lack of enforcement still goes on. At least once on every cruise I have no problem with dragging a long unattended lounge chair out of the way and replacing it with one that is empty if that's the area we want to sit in. I'm not sure if this is true or not but maybe we aren't tipping the right people. There has been quite an eye opening discussion going for awhile on a Regent FB group about how much tipping is happening. I really had no idea about some of this.

so sorry....I was referring to a frequent poster who used to insist that this topic was off limits... not CC.

Its all good - nice that we can respect each other's opinions even if they differ.
I think it's great that this discussion is even happening! For years this board was warned that this topic wasn't allowed. Thanks for all the input.

I addressed my concerns directly to the Captain regarding the use of lounge chairs at the pool. He was very polite and listened.
He told me they couldn’t confront guests.
I asked why even post a policy? Our conversation ended .
That's appalling.....but at least it gives the freedom to wear those shorts and jeans at night.

Somewhat overwhelmed with all the safari options out of Maputo; which safaris has everyone else chosen and how did you make your selection?
thanks,
Marc
Although quite a bit further in, check out Makweti safari lodge. It would be the equivalent of a Regent or Silverseas cruise on land.

Until an example is made to passengers regarding refusal to follow rules....no matter what they are.... by disembarkation or confinement, it appears that some will always do as they please with no consequences.

Given similar observations from different posters about people ignoring mask rules on buses (and presumably other places based on reports from other threads), I would suggest a talk with the GM about this. Apparently Regent is giving mixed messages to guests about the importance of following health and safety protocols. Why endanger crew members and fellow guests? Guests know what the Covid-related rules are, so if they don't want to follow them, then why get on a ship?
I totally agree. Whether masks are useful or not is irrelevant to enforcement. Give those old jeans in the dining room a try. Request an ashtray for the cabin. In case of a shipboard emergency, choose your own life boats. No consequences from Captains equal no big deal. Annoying and disappointing.

PS Mask violators still walking rampant around the ship.
I find that infuriating on several levels.

Karen,
Thank you for your upbeat posts and lovely pics. It is too bad that the current situation has dampened your ability to cruise as you had hoped, but it seems that you are managing to make the best of it.
Have a very happy and healthy new year, and enjoy the rest of your cruise.
Bob
I agree. Beautiful photos. We have friends onboard. Do you feel that the atmosphere would be different if there were any actual consequences to those who are disregarding the protocols?

It would seem highly unlikely with the social distancing and contamination issues that SS would be happy with passengers borrowing/ trading clothes.
-
My take on the OPs question is that, even though he knows what the rules and protocols are for SS, he doesn't want to bring or wear a jacket. There certainly won't be a lack of dining choices for someone going this route but it appears that that the protocols aren't what he's hoping for. My suggestion would be to pack and send a jacket in advance to the ship so that it is available in the cabin on embarkation day. The pesky thing could be discarded at the end of the cruise without all the angst of packing issues. Problem solved.....if that really is the problem.

We were looking forward to a great beach cruise but maybe not so much anymore. I'm quite sure that the guys on the private charter yacht will think your Oceania ship is a monstrosity. I was always taught that $$ doesn't know who owns it.
-
Has the special exemption for certain things been removed? I think it was for medical or religious grounds of some sort with an asterisk in the text.
-
We have been to Bermuda at least 10 times....mostly by ship.... we always do the beaches and shops as visitors do. I've always wondered where the regular, non tourist citizens of the country do their everyday shopping. Does anybody know?

On Regent, getting caught with a marked bottle is instant termination. Cash is a nice gift 😉
We have often taken the bottle(s) to reception and asked to have them donated to the crew bar ...to make it official. we have gotten a smile and a thank you.

The only problem with children on a cruise is that those under 12 can’t get vaccinated at this time. I hope that will soon change.
As long as the "special exceptions" clause is in place, I don't think you are going to get what you are looking for on a cruise.
-
With this news... does this mean that the "certain exceptions" insert will be removed and if not, why not?
-
I am still intrigued by the little "exceptions" clause. Non vaccinated is non vaccinated. How does religion get to play a part in this? Wouldn't asking for details about one's religion fall into a grey zone? These exemptions should be retracted as it isn't fair to all the people who are so onboard to do the right thing.

I don't think Regent, nor any of the NCLH brands, stated that they would have 100% vaccination requirement past 31 October 2021.
Ah ...yes. I do believe you are right.
How should I report a problem with a shore excursion?

We agree with you 100% As a somewhat accomplished rider, I can imagine how absurd this excursion turned out to be. The fact that you had to pay extra makes it even more annoying. I will be following to see how they handle this. It's not like you can get a do over.
