  1. There is no way to have the shade up/ie. window open and keep the cabin pitch black after the sun rises. The bifold doors are 16 frosted glass panes so they filter light but I can still read by the light. Caribbean cruises mostly travel north and south so no direct sunlight into cabin or veranda, but if the ship were traveling east and west, I imagine it’d be direct morning or evening light into the cabin with shade up.
  2. Oh. Forgot about Eden. First night was easy to find seating 10 minutes before. After that, you need to be there 30 minutes or earlier if you expect to sit. I suggest earlier if you want to see - lots of the seating has obstructions and people will stand in front of there is space.
  3. Next time, pick it up and offer it to one of the workers onboard. I have never seen such excited reactions from the crew. They absolutely get visibly excited if you offer them a duck. They’ll thank you for a $2 tip but I can’t explain the reactions they have for ducks. And duck hiding had already caught on the Beyond. Many ducks around this ship if you look. Also plenty of doors decorated. I walked around different floors just to look at doors for an hour or so.
  4. Correct. I tried to give some details to consider - especially if you open bifold doors when room is chilled. I didn’t bring up the blinds - that is pretty easy to know if it affects you.
  5. I’m on beyond right now. The theater seems to have enough seats that you can find something for 2 almost up til showtime most often. Prime seats go quickly so plan to be in chair 30 minutes before. The club is hit and miss - I’d try to arrive 30 minutes or more before for popular events. Recognize if an event was held right before, many of those people will stay in their seats. less popular events have not filled venues.
  6. I did stop by relations earlier. 4 or 5 desks with only 2 people there. They answered ‘about 10 out of 3000’ each cruise and mostly about expecting a balcony instead of an IV. I don’t claim accuracy at all - I’d expect it to be higher for corporate to respond publicly, but that is the response received from beyond. I felt like it’d be in the 300 or higher range due to a corporate response.
  7. I don’t want to mid steer you - I still don’t think you’d be happy in one - i think your comfort level is probably similar to my aunt who is from Maine - temperatures slightly chilly to me.
  8. On beyond i asked the line question and they said it was referring to dice. They said 1x up to $25. So many drinks ago but I think they said 2x up to $50 and then he said 3,4,5…x over $75. I don’t understand what it means so don’t ask me details.
  9. I’m not saying there aren’t complaints - for the line to make a statement there has to be plenty. But from conversations I’ve heard, the entertainment seems to be more a topic on people’s minds. Mostly only hearing compliments on everything. I opened the entire cabin this afternoon docked in port and was completely comfortable and the ac (much less effectively) ran the entire time. It was 90 outside at the time. I think it would be warmer than you’d like per your other posts. After 55 minutes it was 77 on tge far side of the cabin. The air it put out did rise in temp - not sure if it’s because of all the ambient air or if the ac runs better with ship moving. After 16 minutes of closing the folding doors it was 75.x. Image isn’t showing for me. After 8 more minutes of closing the window, 68.2. It was 70 in cabin at that point. The lowest thermostat setting in the cabin is 66. One thing to note is the breeze has been very mild on my side of the ship until we left Cozumel. There is significant more air whipping around the IV so it might cause the temp to move higher/faster. But unless I notice something drastic I’m satisfied with what I wanted to know. My opinion - it feels and looks like a small porch. There is something cute (not refined tho) about the space I don’t get from balconies. It is a bit awkward and limited space while folding the doors to get into seating area. Once out there it feels fine - can’t remember if balconies feel same but opening a door is less awkward. But the experience has been fine and isn’t enough difference where I wouldn’t book whichever is cheapest unless I knew there was cold or bad weather where the IV has the advantage. Honestly I’d probably look for a large window cabin and save money for one of those trips. I would pay extra where better furniture is in space. Opening the bifold doors does change the environment in the cabin quickly - especially fogging all surfaces. It goes away within a couple of minutes and I would think a balcony door does the same but I’m much more likely to leave these folding doors open til I go back to my seat where I’d close a door. For me this feels like the most sunlight I’ve experienced in a cabin - I’m not sure if the glass is more tinted in past cabins or maybe I didn’t open the curtains where this had none. But I wouldn't pay extra for either of these. I haven’t figured out how to remote control from iPhone
  10. In previous photo you can see I have lots of overhang as do the balconies to the aft of me on deck 6. Toward front this is not there. My view is much better that direction.
  11. Interesting perception vs reality. I put my phone lenses right at my eye level sitting how I am normally sitting relaxed and sitting as high as I can not resting in back at all. upright: Photos don’t exactly reflect the view due to foreshortening and such. Sitting upright does feel it’s in the way. When I’ve been sitting reclined into seat I am looking downward usually - didn’t realize this til now. If I look at horizon, I’m looking about 2” down from rail. But I tend to look at waves or boats which haven’t been at horizon. the lifeboat isn’t as intrusive as it looks in the photo. It’s affecting my ability to see flying fish though. Obviously I’d rather they not be there but I got a show when they lifted them back into place after excursions returned.
  12. On beyond my window was locked before they released rooms to passengers and while it was raining - I noticed when dropping off luggage. It was unlocked until we arrived in the first port on deck 6. They were lowering lifeboats for excursions but I don’t know if that was reason but deck 6 overlooks the boats. When the boats were raised in place again, the window was not locked. So very small part of cruise.
  13. I’d go look at beyond casino if I had a clue what game. I don’t think line bet is black jack. Craps?
  14. I haven’t heard a single person complain about IV cabins on this cruise - beyond. Anytime Ive passed guest relations, the line is shorter than any ship I’ve been on - I think the location of the desk makes it harder to find. The entertainment is where I’ve heard the most negative comments-not bad just not what they expected. Personally I’ve enjoyed the shows quite a bit.
  15. We are in port so I’ll post this late afternoon. I am 5’8 and my eyesight is well under the rail when sitting against the back of the seat. I’ll try to figure out how far below rail if I look directly out of it in case you are taller.
  16. Mostly what you’d expect in terms of glass bifold doors but these gaps next to the walls when completely shut.
  17. Just curious if anyone is finding this as fun as I? ignore the water test kit. I’m going to check what is coming out of these pipes shortly.
  18. I don’t consider you either. Just stating the comment wasn’t referring to you. When I use the term ‘lanai’ I definitely am jesting with you. Not sure you find it funny tho.
  19. I’ve returned to my cabin after dinner. The window remained open. The ac is still similar - maybe it can’t go below 60 degrees?? Hopefully you can read that. Harder to see without sunlight helping. The doors are really damp foggy looking but mirrors and such are clear in cabin. Just because the ac is putting out drier air doesn’t mean the cabin isn’t humid. It is noticeably more humid. Again I’m from north Texas so it’s still comfortable to me. But it’s not chilly comfortable as it was before. I put the thermometer in the veranda part to see what it shows before I close the window. After 10 minutes or so. Sorry - I didn’t think to capture this earlier. With only 2 minutes of the bifold door being opened, the mirror in hall fogged up. Oddly the desk mirror did not yet. In about 3 minutes, the fog cleared and I thought the room felt fine again (drier). The room is set to 66 and if I read this correctly, it’s actually 69 per wall thermostat. Anyway this is on beyond. So far I’ve had no issues with the AC performance. I do not care for the small chairs but the replacement chair is worse. So far I have only had a couple of waking hours in my cabin. Service has a little to be desired. They talk the talk, but they aren’t overly efficient at resolving issues. I had to step over this mess for over 24 hours - and they wouldn’t even give me a broom to deal with it myself. it is resolved now.
  20. Whah! I used balcony instead of IV. Pretty sure anyone reading my comments are aware I said it in jest and that I’m on in a silo IV. Oh wait - I’m trying to provide real answers that confused me before my cruise - I’m such a bad human.
  21. I hope you know my personality a bit by now. I meant liar all in jest - I really feel like people don’t realize how little the ac can cool with the window open or that celebrity changed if the ac stayed on. I wasn’t calling you a liar - I don’t remember you even stating either way about the ac staying on or not. I just know you hate ‘balcony’ in reference to the IVs.
  22. Sorry - I’m in a solo IV. I left the window open and the bifold closed while I went to dinner. I put the ‘asleep’ magnet up. My room ac stayed on with window down. Now there is a BIG difference with the bifold open. The room went way humid fast and the cool air went outside fairly fast. I didn’t leave it that way long so it cooled down and the foggy mirrors cleared in about 2 minutes. The fog on the bifold doors remains the entire time.
  23. More to note - I opened the bifold doors for a few minutes and every glass in the cabin fogged over - mirrors, picture, tv screen. Once I closed the doors with the window still open and they all cleared again within minutes so the ac is removing humidity. It isn’t overly hot right now - just mildly uncomfortable and humid. Hopefully there will be one really hot day to see how the ac performs when challenged.
  24. Oh the lies I’ve been led to believe. And I’m right out using liar because it’s the same language used by others. Bwa ha ha. Actually you better check different ships for behavior. I put a thermometer that was already in my cabin overnight on my vent - it had a magnet. My cabin was set to 66 all morning. I closed the sliding glass doors and sat on the balcony with window open for 15 minutes. I already knew the air keeps blowing from yesterday. But imagine my surprise to see this.
  25. For reference, the luxurious lanai railing is 46” high. Just under 4 foot. I haven’t located a balcony to measure yet.
