Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. The deck lighting isn't faring well, waist high metal posts scattered everywhere that are easily bumped into, and seemingly shear off with ease at deck level. I've seen several casualties and i'm not sure there is an easy repair.
  2. Had two bad taxis today. Wanted to go from the terminal to Sagrada Família. First taxi agreed to go there and then while driving through the port claimed he only operated in the port and would drop us by the port bus stops. He had a 9.50 surcharge on the meter and wanted the 17.50 it was showing for that short trip. The second taxi we hailed from there turned the meter off when we got in and wanted 35 to go the cathedral. The total trip should be around 23 so be careful. We used buses for the rest of the day, they take Apple Pay so it's very easy.
  3. I've seen them cleaning, perhaps that has something to do with it, but was just a bit surprised at all the passengers abandoning the upper decks so early. Perhaps it's too chilly for most once the evening arrives 🤔
  4. This is my first Cunard cruise in a warm place (previously done Alaska and Norway). I find myself wondering why all the deck chairs and seat cushions are packed away so early - it would be nice to spend the evening lounging on deck, but the sky bar for example appears to be shut by 6pm. Does everyone just go in for dinner and not want to return?
  5. Oh dear, the mind boggles. Coleen Rooney?
  6. I'm sorry to hear this. Perhaps there is something about a British Isles cruise which attracts a certain person who might not normally be found on a Cunard ship.
  7. I don't think the King's Helicopter Flight typically broadcasts its secondary radar position, so it won't appear on any of the online trackers. If you see it with your eyes it will be an unmistakable burgundy colour.
  8. It's always a lady as far as I know, and that applies to all ships not just Cunard.
  9. There were two to three hour queues to board QE last June on our Alaska trip. Caused entirely by US immigration as there were only a few agents and it took a while to process each person and take their fingerprints. Most of that time seemed to be taken up by the agent waiting for their computer to load things.
  10. For those especially eager to know their boarding time, I've found check-in to be open at the start of the 21st day (e.g. on a Wednesday morning three weeks prior to departing on a Wednesday), but the email doesn't usually arrive until lunchtime.
  11. Thanks for that report, it sounds like it's on the way to running smoothly, and I'm not a fan of salads anyway 😊
  12. I tend to walk on the opposite side to the stateroom doors so I don't bump into room stewards or passengers emerging from rooms. It's funny because it's common in many countries for everyone to keep to a certain side on pavements and footpaths, but when visitors to the UK ask what side people should keep, they are surprised to find that we don't do that in the UK. I just tell them to choose the side that the person coming towards you isn't on.
  13. I haven't seen any comments on the buffet yet and how the "artisan food stations" are working in practice. Is there much queueing, and how is the seating?
