Hello! Will be in Cozumel in 1 month. We have been there probably 10-15x but havent rented a car there in over 10 years. Any jeep rental place recommendations (Puerto Maya)? Also recommendations on the best beach to snorkel (we have our own gear), best quiet beach bar with strong drinks and good authentic food, and any other worthwhile stops would be appreciated. We've been to San Gervasio years ago and dont recall it being something we'd want to go back to.
We'll be there on 3/1 and have rented a SUV from Alamo at Puerto Maya. Jeeps seemed expensive and not readily available. From what I could tell you had to go to the airport to pick them up from the major rental agencies. The benefit to an SUV is, it will have AC and doors that lock so any purchases will be safer than in an open jeep. We're just doing a lap. Going down the east coast stopping at a few beer joints, maybe a stop at the lighthouse too. Then we'll head to a beach club on the western side, maybe Playa Palancar since it's farthest from town and possibly less crowded than those closer.
Years ago we stayed at the Allegro and it had decent snorkeling just offshore but that's been a long time.

Island time seems to rule the schedule no matter where you are in the Caribbean/Bahamas.

Is there still a Casa de Habanos in Georgetown? I'd like to pick up some cigars whilst in port. I'm always confident of the authenticity of the cigars when buying there. Any other recommendations for reputable tobacconists?

I looked into Jeep rental and it seems like Ernesto's is the best bet.
However, I decided to go with a regular small SUV through Alamo. It was a little cheaper than Ernesto. It will also be more comfortable than a Jeep, in terms of egress/agress, plus it'll have AC. Also, you can lock it and conceal any purchases more readily than you can in a Jeep.
It won't be as much fun, but it'll work better for us.

Do you know the km marker for Playa Palancar? I'm guessing it's south of Chakanaab, somewhere near the Iberostar or Allegro?

Lots of variables. In general, Western cruises might stop in more Spanish speaking ports (Cozumel, Riviera Maya, Roatan, etc.). Eastern would visit islands that were once English or French colonies.
Try both!

....and then someone sneezes of coughs in your vicinity and "poof", there goes the effectiveness of your gloves, so you'd better pack some surgical masks too!
Am I the only one who'd be disturbed by someone next to me in the chow line with a pair of rubber gloves? I'd think:
What's going on that I don't know about?
Ship's surgeon?
Germophobic wack-a-zoid
Suit up, everybody....we're goin' cruzin!

If the British would just drink a Coke or Mt Dew in the morning like we Americans do, all on board would be safer!

Take a taxi from the cruise terminal. Panel is about the most expensive destination listed. Ten years ago it was $40 one way. Once there you catch the ferry. It’s always running back and forth.
There aren’t a lot of taxis standing by there so make arrangements for pickup.

We would go into the water near our chairs and didn't worry. When we walked the beach, I carried my camera and phone, as well as cash and ID, with me. I wouldn't bring any valuables to the beach that you can't leave unattended for a length of time. In general, I didn't see any shady characters milling about.

Last year when we taxied on our own to Sapphire Beach, a lot of the loungers were already "reserved" for the cruise tour group. I think we got some of the last chairs that were available. I'd still go on my own. It's a nice beach and no reason to limit your time there just for the ease of booking through the ship.
There are 2 bars there, one of which makes an outstanding Painkiller!

We're with the early bird crowd. My wife has mobility issues and we get to that area around 10:30 and are usually on board by 11:30.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences!

They used to have, what seemed Iike, every episode, available on demand. Last year with the advent of the upgraded video package there were only a few Love Boat episodes. I agree that it was good, light fare to watch as you’re drifting off to dreamland.

I sure hope they have Hamm’s!

Lots of good geocaches on Cozumel. We had our own rental car so it was easy to move from one to another.

One thing I don’t think the video tells you is, after you scan your passport, you have to take a picture of it. I missed that the first time.
I’m glad to hear that there’s actually something that the OM will do for me.

#2 Are you the exception to the NO liquor brought on board rule.
Not the exception. I just choose not to obey that rule. Hell, I even tore that tag off a pillow one time!

No, you can’t. Your passage contract prohibits you bringing any liquor or beer on board. It will be confiscated, even if in luggage. Many have tried and failed. They are very careful. Bottled wine may be brought on board subject to Princess’s rules.
Every time I've tried, I've been successful.

If you don't know the answer before you board, what will you do?
If I can't get Elijah Craig 18yo on board, I can bring my own!

I don’t have a current list but I’ve observed that the selection can vary a lot from one bar to the other. Not every brand is at every bar. My favorite brand of amber elixir was only found at one bar onboard.
