I heard on the television today that as many as 50% of people with covid could be asymptomatic or have extremely minor symptoms that you would not recognise as covid.  Hopefully all unvaccinated people are having regular testing .

But the vaccinated can do the same.  Vaccine doesn't prevent one from getting it or spreading-just lesser case.  Look what happened to the fully vaccinated Yankee players and Bill Maher.  All fully vaccinated and tested positive when getting company required tests.  If they were the regular people no test (none had symptoms)

That certainly sounds dire. But are any of those symptoms contraindicated for vaccination? I am thinking along the lines of people that got blood clots after receiving the vaccine. If you are prone to blood clots, I would think you certainly wouldn't want to have a vaccine that can cause them?

And the recovered.  They don't check to see if you have or had covid prior to the injection.  There are doctors stating neither should get the injection.  The recovered do have immunity and I feel especially while just for emergency use only is in effect, people should have some choice in the matter.

    Better not be taking methotrexate.

A small study on patients in New York and Germany found that a quarter of people who take a common drug for inflammatory types of arthritis mounted a weaker immune system response to the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine than those not taking the medication.

For some, these “weaker” responses involved lower levels of antibodies, but most of the patients taking the drug failed to generate an adequate boost in other key immune system cells, called CD8+ killer T cells, that can help prevent coronavirus infection.

The drug, called methotrexate, is one of the most effective and widely used medications for inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, which affects about 1.3 million Americans; it’s also used to treat some forms of cancer.

Probably not the only medication either.  I guess the bottom line is they did the short trials on healthy people age 18 to 55.  Those with other illness or recovered or pregnant not included.  The whole thing coming out now about how many medications that help or can help with this disease were not allowed in many states or by many doctors.  I have personal experience with this and a sad day for medicine.  One must remember this is a medication that is only currently approved for emergency use only.  It doesn't prevent or stop the spread.  The recovered while some say they don't know how long the antibodies will last,  well, they surely don't know on a vaccine.  There was a NIH paper published in Jan that was referring to this saying they hoped the vaccine had the same as natural immunity.  I don't want to be a thorn in anyone's side but recovered in any other illness always present the best type of immunity.  There would be many many people coming up with a 'second case' if not.   There seems to be much coming out these past few days on the terrible behind the scenes things that were happening over the past year.  I hope this all straightens out soon and somehow cruising and all travel goes back.

I thought what I heard on TV was that the recovered who also get the vaccine may end up having lifetime immunity and may not need booster shots.

yes, more and more studies on this plus apparently, (and I know a few) the recovered have stronger side effect from the vaccine since their body already has antibodies.  Who am I to say but this would be the first disease I've heard of where having it doesn't matter.  They are just trying to convince all to get the shot.  More and more studies are coming out on this and many recovered may not wish to take the vaccine.  No proof the vaccinated don't get it at all.  Look what happened when Yankees were given their before game tests even though fully vaccinated.  And Bill Maher.  Same thing  not sick but once their company policy was followed and they came up positive  all the restrictions, quarentines.  I don't ever want to be a part of that and be stuck on a ship.

  5. We have done the NYC r/t 3 times. All were the same basic week in mid October. The first one in 2004, the weather was fine and ocean map looked good from Bermuda north. Well, TS Nicole quickly came up the Atlantic and we had 70 mph winds and 25 foot seas! The second time, was 2007 and perfect weather, calm seas and sunny days! The last time in 2009 we had rainy weather the first day or so and missed the first port of Newport, RI due to stormy weather. The remainder of the cruise good weather! I guess you can just never tell. You are at the mercy of the weather!

  6. My experience has been if you have a coffee card from a previous cruise you can still use it for brewed coffee but you will get a hole punched in the card until it is finished.[/quote

I have had the same experience with the previous cruise coffee cards.

  7. Two yr. ago Princess was booking the 7 day Vancouver/Whittier as a 14 day (B2B) so thus 2 seven day cruises. We were lucky to get it for 629 pp! I haven't seen them doing this since then. We were somehow able to save on the port charges, they were 220 pp. Glad we were able to do this otherwise most likely we wouldn't have been able to go.

  8. I think for the price difference I would book the obstructed. The light just makes so much difference especially on a longer cruise such as yours. You could get lucky and book the inside and be upgraded like we were as well! But we were very lucky to have that upgrade.

  9. I believe that the October 2015 cruises are the first time that Princess is doing roundtrip coastal cruises out of Vancouver so no one has sailed this route before. On the plus side, you won't have to go to Ensenada... :)

And, btw, the ship's name is Star Princess. Princess ship names aren't like Celebrity or Carnival or NCL where they've recently tacked on the corporate name ahead of the actual name of the ship. Nitpicky I know, but as a former proofreader, stuff like that makes me crazy... :p

Vancouver is a wonderful port to cruise out of!

  10. Vancouver and the north western Pacific coastal region is pretty much hurricane free. I can only remember in my 70 years of living in Vancouver and area that we ever experienced hurricane force winds and while they do some damage to trees these are usually the tail end of a hurricane and normally occur very early in the spring or late fall. If you are sailing an Alaska itinerary out of Vancouver it is sailed mainly in sheltered waters and you are exposed to the open waters of the Pacific on for only a few hours crossing Queen Charlotte Sound and Dixon Entrance.

Yes, we did the Alaska and the smoothest waters ever, especially in 2013! We didn't even feel any movement in the 14 days.

This is the Vancouver/Hawaii, we are thinking about smack in the middle of hurricane season. That's why I wondered. We have experienced hurricane/TS 2 times in the Atlantic during Sept/Oct. The Canada NE cruise actually was the path of the quick moving TS Nicole in Oct 2004! That one did hit Halifax the night before we docked there at 100km winds! Anyway, we were just wondering! Thank you for your help!

  11. We did a Vancouver return to Hawaii inOct 2014. Smooth sailing until we head back to Vancouver and had to go off course from a storm. nothing too choppy. It was a good cruise there and back.

Thank you. We have done a few Canada NE cruises. We were in 25 foot seas and TS Nicole, while no port change probably should have been! We were fine but the Grand Princess suffered quite a bit of water/flooding damage. And then a Bermuda cruise in 2012 on the Explorer of the Seas and we were in the NCL Star accident where they broke free of there moorings and hit our docked ship! That one is on utube still I think.

I was just thinking since there really isn't much else out there for the Hawaii cruise, what if any are options! Thank you again.

  12. We prefer the Richmond location for the Accent Inn. Located on the edge hotel area. More choices in restaurants close by.

We found the Burnaby location in an industrial area. The hotel borders on Two busy streets.

Sent from my SGH-I317M using Forums mobile app

Thank you. I know Burnaby and the Airport location offer the stay/cruise/park option and we had a great experience 2 yr ago. Does the Richmond location offer the same? The parking is the part of most importance and of course the included shuttles.

  13. I have a hurricane question. I have sailed on the Atlantic during hurricane season and have been on cruises just skirting around them as well as tropical storms. There are many places to divert a cruiseship during the season and I think a reason for some of the Canada ports now included in cruises. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this happening during Pacific storms from cruises leaving from Vancouver. Thank you. (I did post a question in the hurricane section and haven't had any replies)

  14. Alaska 2013 on the Island Princess. While 2 seven day actual cruises, Princess was selling as a 14 day for 629! It seemed to me that the port charges for the 14 day were just a few dollars more than the 7 day at 220! We received the military 250 as well. Also, this was the guarantee cost for an interior and we received an OV midship when assigned. Best we ever received

  15. I just priced mine out again and they showed a higher OBC, is that worth a call to Princess to try to get?

If the offer is not for new bookings only and you booked directly with Princess, call. If with TA I believe you must go through them. It's always worth the call, you never know.
