  1. I live in Orlando and cruise often out of Port Canaveral. I parked at the port once until a friend told me about Park n Cruise. I have never waited for a shuttle to leave the port (It seems, when one shuttle pulls away, another pulls right in) and waited once to get the shuttle to the port, but not long. My car is ready for me to leave, I get off the bus and right in my car.

Does ParkNCruise required to take away your car key for the whole duration of the cruise or can you park the car yourself and keep your car key ?

    Thanks

  2. Thank you everyone for your replies.

The rental car has unlimited mileage. The Saturday night before the cruise, we got hotel room in Orlando and planned to park at the garage on terminal 1 for convenient. Last time we park at Park Port Canaveral operated by the Radisson hotel, the line to get on shuttle bus line is very long to get to the ship.

I will definately be open and look into other hotels/motels with the park and cruise discount.

  3. Hello everyone, I want to see if anyone try this before calling the car rental place myself.

I'm thinking of rent a car pick up in Houston and return it at Port Canaveral for our upcoming cruise and then on our return after we get off the ship pick up the car at Port Canaveral and return it in Houston.

I did a mock booking from one of the car rental place. Pick up on Friday morning Houston and return it at Port Canaveral on Sunday afternoon. The total cost for a full size car for 3 days is $580.66. Most of the cost is the surcharge for them to recover/drive the car back to Houston. The cost for same car 3 days if I return to same location only $126.54.

Therefore the cost of the one-way rental for both going to and return would cost more than $1000.

My question to CC audience is, anyone ever make some sort of arrangement or agreement with the car agency to waive the recover surchage, so that when you get off the ship on your return, you drive the same car back to the original pick up location to avoid the recovery charge ?

If that can not be done, my other option is to rent the car for the whole duration of the trip including while we are on the ships and that is a 11 days rental pick up in Houston and return in Houston, the total cost is $420. It seems like a waste for the rental car sitting in a parking lot for 7 days plus parking fee. But still this option is less than the renting one-way.

    Thanks

  4. FYI

I'm not on the ship for the upcoming Oasis cruise yet, but I installed the Royal App on my Android phone earlier this week and I noticed that this app draws battery and using up your data even when I'm not using it. I then went into the Settings -> Application -> Restrict background data (checked the box ). Also blocked Notifications. Hopefully this will help to save battery and data usage. So far the app seems to work ok with that setting.

  5. Just found out something. On royal caribbean web site, for both the original room 12539 and new room 12725

    Their deck plan for June 10th, 2018 - April 28th, 2019

those rooms does not have the triangle symbols.

    For the deck plan April 21st, 2019 - April 26th, 2020

the deck plan does has the triangle symbols for those room.

Our cruise is on August 5th, 2018. I think it is an IT issue which they are working on.

Another note I saw the difference on the deck map plan between those two set of calendar dates, there are alot more of others cabin added with the triangle symbols on it for the April 21st 2019 - April 26th, 2020. So it does seems like RCI is replacing the regular sofa to sofa beds.

  6. Our "rollaway bed" on Harmony this month was actually the type of couch where you remove the cushions and the couch itself is a twin bed (think daybed configuration).

However, my son and his GF both slept on the twin bed together, so we didn't actually have the steward make up the couch as a bed.

I think RCI is calling it a "rollaway bed" to distinguish it from the "sofabed" that folds down and is supposed to be able to sleep two people as a full-size bed. This twin-sized couch-tranformable-bed is the same size as having a Pullman-style bed in the room, only without any worry about banging your head on it.

Thank for for that explaination, it makes sense. The new room they upgraded us 12725 on the map plan it also does not has any symbols for the 3rd bed, on the updated invoice it still shows under my daughter name "ROLL AWAY BED". I called RCI C&A number and they said on their room description database it shows that room has a twin sofa bed and they said they don't know why the map plan doesn't have the triangle symbol to show it.

Based on how well their IT department merging the RCI and Celebrity toghether and all the issues they are working on, and that results in the map deck plan is not up to date while RCI trying to make more revenue by converting their 2 people cabins to 3 by switching out the regular sofa to the twin sofa beds. I give them the benefit of the doubt that their will be a twin sofa bed in our cabin.

I'm happy with the upgrade, I will bring a hammock to hang on the balcony to sleep there, wife and daughter can have the bed. :):)

  7. I just got this email from Royal Caribbean. After reading it, I login to my account and check my booking now it shows I have a different room. It is now a boardwalk balcony room #12725. Eventhough that room also doesn't have the symbol for the 3rd berth, but I don't mind at all. Now we have a balcony. Daughter and wife can have the bed, I will sleep on the balcony. :):):):)

  8. Thinking about this whole experience of my first time booking a guarantee room ever since I first sailed with Royal Caribbean since 1997 why now book a guarantee . When booking the interior room on Oasis in April this year. For at least 3 or 4 consecutive weeks all the interior and ocean view rooms only available as "Guarantee" rooms only. You can not select your room. (both refundable and non-refundable) that is the reason why I booked the guarantee room at that time. I thought it was strange. I posted a thread about it.

About the twin sofa bed, as long as it can put back into the sofa during the day time to save space, it will be fine with us. On all past cruises my daughter slept on the pullman bed size, it is big enough for her, therefore the twin size sofa bed should be fine with her

  9. I finally got it in writing from Mr. Frau about the sofa bed.

"Thank you for your e-mail. It is a pleasure to be of further assistance.

As I stated during our conversation, your stateroom will be able to accommodate your three guests. The third guest will have a sofa bed twin. Since you reserved an interior guarantee we will not be able to change your stateroom.

Thank you for your loyalty with Royal Caribbean International. We look forward to welcoming you onboard Oasis of the Seas. "

  10. I've been cruising since 1997, this is my first time booking a guarantee room. At first I thought the risk is the location where they assigned the room, but being an interior room without a view so it does not matter. Never thought the issue is the type of bed they substitute for the 3rd guest. Probably I will never book a guarantee room for 3 again. So far I ask Frau couple of times to put it in writing that I will have a sofa bed in my room like what he verbally told me on the time, but did not hear anything back from him.

ucfknight07, on your customer receipt invoice, under the 3rd guest name, is there the wording "ROLL AWAY BED" ?

  11. You could always offer to pay for the difference to ENSURE you get a TRUE 3 adult beds cabin. Keep in mind that you still may not get an actual sofabed as pullmans are far more common. A pullman is a 3rd or 4th bed that folds down from either the ceiling or one of the walls generally directly over the main bedding area (think bunk beds type of thing). Good luck.

Although we have been on many prior cruises, this is our first GTY Balcony cabin for our upcoming 7 day Caribbean cruise with our 15 year old son. We were hoping to get a sofabed but were fully aware that we may have been assigned a cabin with a pullman in it. However, when prices dropped and we were able to pay a bit more for a GTY Suite, we expected to get a mini suite with it's own sleeper sofa. However, fortunately we ended up getting a Grand Suite assigned instead so we will have more room and are now assured of a sleeper sofa...for a price that is fine for us.

pullman bed is our first choice. On other class ships from Royal Caribbean prior to the Oasis class, there are plenty of those pullman beds around the ship, but starting with the Oasis class, for interior room, there are only about 3 or 4 rooms which has pullman bed. Then with the Quantum class I think none of the room has pullman bed, they have sofa bed instead of pullman bed. I think newer RCI ships are going away from the pullman because of maintenance and repair. Sofa beds are easier to replace once broken than pullman bed.

  12. I need to comment on your last paragraph. You are aware that a "sofabed" on Royal is not like a sofabed in a hotel or even one you have at home in your office should a guest come over.

They are regular sofas, and they pull the seat part forward and the backs flatten down, and they put a sheet over the seating part and the back part, which is now flat, and it becomes a bed. When they used to have the foam mattress toppers, we'd sometimes get those as well, but I understand those are gone for sanitary reasons. So if you're expecting a pull out bed that comes from underneath the cushions, you're definitely not getting that in any form.

Thank you for that information. What I'm trying to say is that during the day time it will become a sofa again to save space in our room regardless how it works .

Just found a video on how a sofa bed works on Royal Caribbean ship. Yes this is the one we should have instead of the smaller roll away bed

  13. I'm going to chime in on this. As a software engineer and architect for 29 years, I know one of the fact is computers, software, including websites, one of the goals and objectives for them is automation, and to reduce human intervention, reducing labors (reducing cost of operation), cut down human errors, making the whole business process flow more efficient.

In contrast to that concept, Royal Caribbean web site create more human interventions because now more users are calling them talk to a live person to help them with issues, help them booking, check in, cancelling changing etc... and their web sites create errors and required live person to fix what website software should have done. Now they have to hire more people to answer phone call and help desk support, cost them more and the whole process of their business flow is ineffcient.

Their web site has gone reverse from what an information systems are for.
