  1. Jamman.....How long was the ship docked in Colon? Where you able to take any excursions while in Gatun Lake or Colon? We did a partial canal cruise 2010 on HAL Zuiderdam & was offered an excursion that went through rest of the canal on a ferry to the Pacific Ocean & then was transported back to Colon by bus. It was a great excursion to see almost all of the canal & the Centennial Bridge & Bridge of the Americas without doing a full transit by cruise ship.

  2. From what I have found, Glory will be getting waterworks, a build-a-bear workshop, new propellers, and routine maintenance and repairs (tile.carpet, etc). I'm interested to see what, if anything, else might get added/changed. We sail on her in May.

Is the Glory in dry dock now?

  3. It's been awhile since we have stayed in Fort Lauderdale. I used priceline for Renaissance Hotel & Hyatt Place both were excellent. We also stayed 1 time at Extended Stay...it was fine.

There are so many restaurants on 17th Street....we enjoyed Kelly's Landing (seafood) located at 17th & Cordova Rd. in the Southport Shopping Center which also has a Ross Dress for Less & Dollar Tree. Mexican: Carlos & Pepe's near the Harbor Shops on 17th. Near the Renaissance Hotel is the Boatyard Restaurant. Food was ok, but it was great to sit outside on the canal & watch the boats go by in January!

Harbor Shops has fast food restaurants, grocery store, & I think there is a wine store also.

  4. We sailed on Glory 3 times. She's the biggest ship we have ever sailed on. I like her because most of the time the ship didn't feel crowded.

Service was good....entertainment (shows) was good, comedy club was excellent....we went almost every night.

Food was ok, we had MTD & the thing about MTD is the wait staff seems so rushed...yet it still takes more than 1 hour for dinner. I don't remember traditional dining waiters being so rushed.

Hope this is some help to you :)

  5. In as much as we are not able to cruise often, usually every two years, we look for new places to see. One exception has been 2014, 2015 when we had cruises booked. We will cruise in July with friends our 2nd Caribbean cruise since 2004 out of Galveston and again April 2018 on the Freedom's 8 day but it was hard finding Ports we haven't been to.

Take a look at sailing from San Juan :)

  6. Hello All !

Since I have not seen any in depth reviews of Jewel since the drydock, I thought I would throw one in.

First, some disclaimers: Spelling and grammer errors...expect them...just sayin. I am doing this after long days of class and work so if you can get the gist of what I am typing, I consider it a win.

so a couple preview pics while I get the rest of the shoveling done

Second, there is no food porn ( very sorry ) but as I have stated in a prior review, I have a palete so boring it would make Gordon Ramsey cry and Wolfgang Puck quit and try to endorse Amish Rake Fighting in the next olympics..... yes my menu is THAT limited. For those that will pick up on the reference, take Leonard Hofstadters food issues and multiply by about 6..so yea...fun. That said, I will still attempt to go over what I did experience food-wise in addition to commentary by my far better half on what is available and the quality.

Contrary to my screen name here, I don't drink... never have, never will. I UNDERSTAND it for sure, just can't miss what you never had so I can't really comment on the alcohol side.

With that out of the way, I will be happy to field questions and answer as best as I am able from what I and my wife have experienced.

We are in our low 40's and do not have kids. This is my eighth cruise and her forth. I like it more then she does mostly because she has some motion sickness issues.

Lastly as far as gear for pictures, I used a Canon T3i and a gopro 3+. I did use the wide format for taking some stills with the gopro and due to that, some pics may be a bit fuzzy. This was due to not being able to view the shots once they were taken. It was literaly click and pray.. And I do like to have a little fun with the tilt-shift or (miniature) function on the Canon. It is challenging to frame the picture in a way the filter will work well and to me it makes some pictures more interesting.

Sorry for all the words, I will get working on pre-board day tomorrow. Until then, ask questions if you have them and enjoy the ride

The day before, there was a huge rainstorm and our driver mentioned that normally iguanas were all over the place but to that point, we saw none. Then over a rise, we spotted a little pulloff where a local was feeding some greens to a bunch that decided to come and show off.

We then toured around the island some more taking in the sights and enjoying the very informative commentary from our guide. Our next stop was a little shop area on a hill with a nice overlook to the nude beaches. I only had a 300mm lens with me so not much to see from this distance anyway. It was a nice view regardless

At the little shop are there was a small place that took care of abandoned pets. There was this cat there that just seemed too cool for pictures...note the crossed paws...such a princess

    moving on...

She's probability thinking "Damn Tourist Again"

  8. Walk from tbe dockyard to "Glass Beach", it's a nice little spit with lots of beach glass and some unique artwork. Also has awesome snorkeling. I suggest by a cheap snorkel kit from Amazon and a pair of Water Shoes.

Another amazing location is "Tom Moore's Jungle" it's a free nature park with some decent hiking trails. If you're adventurous at the Blue Hole (where the little wooden overlook is) there is a path that leads to two seperate cliffs that you cam jump off of into the water. You'll have to swim over to the awooden overlook and climb out, again wear water shoes because the rocks are jagged. If you're really, really adventurous from that location walk to the clearing by the bay, on your left you will see a picnic table, walk to the picnic table and look at the water's edge.

Are there signs to direct you to glass beach? Thanks :)
