  1. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ovechkin play in his 40’s. Jagr did, and he is still playing at 52, although no longer in the NHL. It has been a treat to see some of these greats play.
  2. I learned some things about cats, this week, that I didn’t know. You may remember a few of my photos of Ricky, who lives with my daughter and her family. Ricky, is arguably the strangest cat I have ever encountered. Never once has he ever nipped or scratched anyone. This week, Ricky became very lethargic. Not interested in food, wouldn’t play, and was not himself. When they took him to the vet, they diagnosed him as anemic, and sent him to a facility in Ohio to have his blood typed. Once typed, they had to find another facility that had his blood type to do a transfusion. I never knew there were such things as cat blood donors, or transfusions for cats. There is no such thing as a universal donor blood type for cats. They said that Ricky would not have survived another day if they had not acted so quickly. He should be coming home today, from Akron, where he finally ended up for his transfusion. I know everyone will be overjoyed to see him return home. They just wish he wasn’t bringing that $$$$ bill with him.
  3. If they are approaching it responsibly, they will be looking at the needs in the future. Since bridges are being built for 100+ years life span, they need to look to the future. Increasing clearances on CBB may need to be addressed at some point. Ships will continue to increase in size. Just look at the changes in the past 100 years that resulted in new locks in the Panama Canal to accommodate larger ships.
  4. For all of our hockey fans on this thread, I wasn’t aware that Sid was close to one of Gretzky’s records. Monday’s game assured that he will have averaged a point a game for 19 straight years. Quite an accomplishment, and I can’t believe he has been playing for 19 years. Now, if by some miracle, the Pens could make that playoff cut, all would be right in Pen’s land.
  5. I think I saw that some ships have a second sensor under the bath vanity. Maybe that is why.
  6. It is mornings like this that I get depressed, looking at the forecast. At least we had 4 hours yesterday that it didn’t rain. By the way, rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit did not bring me Powerball luck last night.
  7. Seven years. It will not be done till 2025, but they say Covid delayed the finish by 10 months.
  8. Thanks for those links, Andrew. They are a little behind their original schedule. It was to open this year, but not till 2025 now.
  9. Clearance would not be a problem. It is just a function of setting the clearance you want at the main channel and transitioning to the approach elevations. If you want to see a cable-stayed bridge with lots of clearance, look up Millau Viaduct in Southern France. Just over 1100 feet under clear on that one.
  10. And all those regulations and red tape only increase the cost. They do move through them quicker in high profile situations. This will also result in higher costs. That figure of $3.9 Billion is probably not far from what a new bridge would cost here. My guess that the bridge will be completely replaced, including approach spans. Most likely a cable-stayed design. They could more than double the clear span between pylons for the main channel. If I recall, the Gordie Howe bridge that is under construction, has a 2800 foot clear span.
  11. Same thing happened with me. We took the family to Shakespeare’s Castle for Easter meal. All I took was pictures of the desert tables. The first thing my grandson did was grab a couple pieces of cheesecake, and bring back to the table for himself, before he went for food. Granddaughter probably won the desert competition. She had blueberry pie, cherry pie, Oreo cookie pudding, brownie, chocolate chip cookies, and cheesecake. That was in addition to a couple plates of food. Don’t know where that little girl puts it all.
  12. So, with our taking the grandkids on a cruise this summer, Susan wants to encourage duck hiding. She thinks the kids will have fun with that. Not saying I approve, but after getting this email today, I volunteered to pick up some ducks. I wonder how many she needs? My work may be cut out for me.
  13. Yesterday was a beautiful day for a hike. It has been a while since we have been on a nature trail. Somehow, when I change up the type of terrain, I find muscles that haven’t been getting a workout. The turtles were out sunning. After the heavy, all day rain we had the other day, I expected the trail to be muddy. The trail was pretty dry This is the easy walking part Stream was a little muddy. The falls were flowing full. So, I guess I may need to do a few more of these if I want to do a 20km hike with @aussielozzie18 We did 10km on an afternoon walk, only stopping briefly for a couple photos, and it took us 2 hours and 40 minutes. Pace is low when you need to watch for roots and rocks on the trail. IMG_0850.mp4 Meanwhile, my daughter and her family went hiking about 25 miles from where we were. I think I know where our next hike will be. It looks beautiful there.
  14. Sorry to hear you are battling the flu, Dani. Susan had something on and off for almost a month. Thankfully, I didn’t get whatever she had. Hope you get rid of it soon.
  15. @FromSea2ShiningSea Beautiful photos. We have done a few of those types of hikes here. I am enjoying your photos.
