  1. Wonderman - I said he thought it was only for Aqua, not definitively. Sorry if you felt I was calling you out on this.

I like to attribute my responses to where I hear or read about what I am asking or saying and not just say - I read this or that or I heard this or that.

  2. VT - I mentioned the deck area outside of the Fitness Center in a different post because my DW likes to do yoga out there on S Class ships. Wonderman came back to me and indicated he thought only Aqua Class cabins or cruisers that purchased Thermal area passes had access to that outdoor deck. I’m hoping he is incorrect. It is the only real outdoor front view for non Suite passengers. Looking forward to your answer. By the way, did you pass out all of your maple syrup?  Be well and board very carefully this cruise. Glad you seem to be doing better.

Just to chime in here regarding the Retreat...

My biggest complaint about The Retreat would be the placement of Luminae which is two decks down from the lounge below the spa. I'm totally baffled as to how that design came to be and why they wasted valuable front view space on the spa when it could've been used to position Luminae at the fore of the ship similar to MSC's Yacht Club. Overall though, from what I'm seeing so far things look on a pretty even keel between The Haven and The Retreat. I'll reserve final judgment after my Edge cruise which starts next week. I was in a Haven suite in January so I'll be able to compare them easily enough. I do think that MSC has both of them beat as far as executing a true suite experience based on how everything is totally congregated in one area with amazing views at the front of the ship for lounge, restaurant and sundeck. I'll reserve final judgement on them to next September when I do a side to side cruise in Europe.

I enjoyed reading your take on Retreat. My only definite disagreement with you is your  comment about the placement of Luminae. You suggest they should have placed it where the Spa/Fitness Center is located. That area is the only place on Edge that Non-Suite passengers can get a forward view now that the Retreat has replaced the Sky Lounge from S Class ships. All passengers should have the opportunity to see where we are going, not just where we have been.  Not everyone that cruises has the financial resources to afford a Suite.

PS - The Deck area outside of the Fitness Center is my DW’s favorite place to take a mat and do some yoga.  That is her Retreat.

  4. B-Roll is footage shot in addition to the primary reason of a video shoot. It extra footage that may be used at some point in time when you are looking for shots to use for some new purpose. An example may be a newscrew is doing a standup on location for a specific story that will be aired. The crew also goes around and shoots “B Roll” to have for other purposes at a later date.  It can also be used during the actual story that is aired to add interest to the story the reporter is covering.

  5. I don’t know what type of cabin you have. Look at the deck plan. If it is an IV, Concierge or Aqua, you will see an indentation in the Cabin drawing. If the indentation is in the middle of the cabin, the bed is by the bathroom.  The cabins basically alternate bed by bath and bed by balcony. You will see the indentation next to the balcony for cabins with bed by balcony.

  6. Just saw a very short clip of a C-3 cabin on Deck 12. It’s posted on the Edge Facebook page. I’m not sure how to copy and paste it here. It was a quick video from the Cabin door to the balcony. Cabin looked sterile and when I saw the balcony with the overhang and support pole I made a fast change in cabins from Deck 12 to Deck 11. I may be overreacting to what I saw, but between the overhang and the pole it did not impress me.

We’ve got a longer walk to the elevators now, but no pole or direct overhang.

  7. Here’s a suggestion for the G&T drinkers. I know you can bring on soda on board. How about stopping at a store before you board your ship and buy the Fevertree Tonic of your choice. Bring your bottle to the bar and your bartender can use it to mix your cocktail?  It might be a hassle, but at least you’ll be enjoying your drink of choice during the cruise. We’ve done this at an All Inclusive when they didn’t have all of the ingredients for my DW’s favorite martini.

  8. The Thanks Bo. As usual, you have a calm take on answering questions from “nervous” cruisers. It could be X is still working on the logistics of how this will be implemented. As long as the cocktails continue to be served during dinner all will be OK. I know you are vegetarian. Do you plan to try Eden?

Bo - Just saw your reply about Eden in another topic. No need to answer here.

  9. I’m still trying to figure this out. We have booked Eden one night of our cruise. The way Marilyn described the dinner it sounds as if everyone is served the courses in the same order. When you book Eden there are 15 minute increments to make a reservation. It sounds like the “show component “ of the dinner is synchronized with the courses that are being served. How will this work?

At LPC there are specific seating times. That is easy to figure out the way dinner will be served. At Eden if guests are being seated in 15 minute intervals I guess my mind is having a difficult time grasping how this will work.

Please help my out if you actually know how this will work. Thanks in advance.

  10. Agree with the previous posts. We are flying to Venice with a return from Barcelona. United website had flights at About $1700 per person. Choice Air got our flights for about $660.  No worries. We have our seats assigned except for the Brussels to Venice leg.

  11. Forgot to add. Either way your account is cleared out at the end of the first leg. There’s no carryover to second leg. Refundable Igor’s back on your credit card. Non refundable is lost if not used. At times cruisers have gone to Guest Services and re ceived cash for Refundable OBC.

  12. It depends on if it is refundable or non refundable. OBC directly from your is usually refundable. If it was part of the Perks offered it is usually non refundable.

check your account while onboard and if the code is OBCN it’s non refundable OBCR is refundable.

Or, check with your TA if you used one and ask.

  13. I know this will sound strange, but the upgrade at $11.80 is only available for cruises that deploy after January 1st. The key is to look at your Cruise Planner and check the price for the package. If it’s $59 and $69 you can upgrade for the $11.80. If it still shows up as $55 and $69 it is $16.52.

There were posts in another  other thread where the guest was trying to get the $11.80 and they were denied. They were told the effective date was January 1st.

I have been very surprised reading through these threads.  To me, the ship looks amazing and I feel very fortunate to be able to board it in the future.  ChicagoPaul has some good advice in his thread on the main board for those that are getting upset

I feel the majority of the posts on this thread have been positive. Even those that point out something they don’t think they will like say they will wait to make their minds up once they cruise.

We are very excited to cruise Edge in February.  Have we noticed a few things we have concerns or questions about?  Sure we do. We have purchased dinner at Eden.  We don’t know if we will like anything on the menu, but we’re also looking forward to trying something different - our of our comfort zone I guess.

Only time time will tell how the majority of cruisers react to this new ship. My guess is that most guests on the first couple of cruises will be previous guests of X. It will take several months to get a true take of how well the ship is received.

  15. The first night in the MDR with Select Dining tends to be mass confusion. If you really want to eat at 7:15, plan to get there at 6:45 at the latest. You will likely get a pager to let you know when your table is ready.  You can go to your Cruise Planner and make a reservation now, but for a cruise this close (11/10) it is likely most times have been booked by others so go early and get your name in. 7:00 is a very popular time especially for those who want to go to the 9:00 show.
