  1. I would like to add some information about this whole upgrade bidding process. Yesterday morning someone posted that they won a bid on a cabin that I was also bidding on. I know it was the same cabin because there are only 2 cabins in that category and one has been booked for a long, long time. No problem there. Yet, my bid still said pending and I could still do a modification if I had wished to and I have yet to receive a denial. My bid just recently within the last hour, changed from pending to processing, yet I'm fairly certain that my bid has been out of play for more than 24 hours. Just more information on the bidding black hole.

Maybe the other cabin bid on and won an even higher category?

  2. Definitely a JS. A regular balcony is just to small especially if you have two young ones (IMHO). Agree with the tub also! If you decide regular balcony you can bring a blow up swimming pool and use in the shower for a tub or out on the balcony just to splash around in.

  3. Great points DAisy!!! I think we are gonna stick with our suite... my wife is very happy with the decision either way I will post a long in-depth review of our experience like I did for our 3/05/16 sailing on the breakaway!!!! (People still email me about how great the review was received) lol

I am so glad we gave access to these boards for all of the ever changing info on NCL policies and pricing strategies with all the tips and little gems of information offered by fellow critics!!!

If you don't get an email to bid, go to the NCL website and an upgrade offer will be there when you log in. They will let you know what categories are available to put in a bid for. Bids usually aren't accepted/rejected until two days before sailing. We're in a balcony now and have a bid in for the SJ on the Dawn. I've been in an SJ and it really is the perfect location!

  4. We got to sample a 2 bedroom Haven on the Gem, cruise to nowhere. Go it through an upsell. Back then it was actually called the Courtyard. While we loved it, ooo'd and awww'd about it, I would never spend the money on one again. We didn't use the butler or concierge, but did like the gummy bears..... The balcony was very small for four people.

  5.

I am going to look at scoot-around and special needs at sea today.

I do believe that Special needs was bit cheaper, but that makes me nervous

is there a reason they are less expensive?

Also I know that the Scooter is left in the room, but rooms aren't available

until 1 PM, what is the solution until the scooter can be accessed. I know

they will give her a wheelchair to be wheeled onto the ship correct?

Sorry for all the questions just with her limited mobility I want to

make this as smooth as possible for her , because she already

feels like she is being a burden. :(:(

We used Special Needs with no issues.

You could either ask if they can deliver it to Guest Relations and grab it when you board. Or as another person posted, have them wheel you to lunch until the cabin is ready. Not sure they serve lunch in the dining room on boarding day, but that may be easier than the WJ.

  6. I bid on an H9 upgrade....we are in the poor category but not the bottom of the barrel. Sailing is 31 days away. Room count just dropped significantly....does that mean they are starting the upgrade inventory pulls?

Hard to say. They could just be assigning the guarantee cabins. It seems most bids are not accepted/declined until the very end although I have read a few that have been accepted a month out.

  7. Was your negative experience with connected rooms on an NCL ship? If so, which one? I am currently set to sail on the Gem in June and put in a bid for an upgrade to a Balcony (from inside) but I have noted in my mock bookings that most of the available inventory of Balconies are connected rooms, so I was worried about getting placed in one of those. In another thread people reassured me that noise wouldn't be an issue with a connected room on the Gem, but your post has me worried again!

I never had an issue with connecting cabins. The door was at the foot of the bed. It's not something I would worry about, especially if you win your bid. Good luck!

  8. We were on deck 7 inside room.

We bid 75 on the POA (7-28) and the chance meter was very near the bottom in red - guess what - we are in a family balcony on deck 7 - no obstructions and a larger room.

    Go for it!

Plus the ship was almost sold out when this happened!

You were able to bid and already accepted for a July cruise? Wow, that's awesome, good deal!!

  9. You can get a 2 day ferry/bus pass that allows unlimited use of both. Take a ferry to Hamilton, then bus back to the dockyard. Get off at the Gibbs Lighthouse stop and climb to the top for a fantastic view of the island! Just being on one of the buses is an adventure itself!

St Georges is nice and the climb up the hill to the unfinished Church is worth the walk.

When you get dropped off at the port, give your luggage to a porter right away and head inside. Don't stand in the long line.
