For a number of years, I have purchased an annual policy with LIfe Guard, simply covering emergency medical primarily, "business travelers insurance". Cost $518 for two of us. Considered that adequate. Now with Covid and since now traveling with a family member who has cancer, I have decided I need to carry cancel for any reason and cover both medical and trip costs. In this case, if my family member had a health emergency prior to a trip, I might end up needing to cancel to be here. Sharing this because what one carries depends on what their situation is and what they may need to cover.

We did get off after boarding years ago in Istanbul, there were shops at the dock area. I would ask, when you get to the dock/boarding area. If the answer is no, then have lunch and come back. If yes, board and go have lunch. Hard to know in advance.

I have done a number of Trans Atlantic on Princess, Cunard, and HAL. Never cruised Carnival, closes line to Carnival we have been on NCL. To me this is a no brainer, HAL. But wonder how you like sea days? To me the difference between two cruises is basically how much you like sea days. If you like sea days, HAL, not maybe Carnival. or another cruise.
