  1. This is an interesting topic. I have an upcoming cruise on Orion from Vancouver to Seward in June. I used Viking air plus and plan to rent a car at Anchorage airport after the cruise. I asked about transportation from Seward to Anchorage airport and was told I would have to get my own because I had Viking air plus and I was not returning home the day the cruise ended. Seems kind of stupid since all I need is a ride on buses going to Anchorage airport. Received this response from two Viking reps and did ask if I could pay for transportation to the airport and was told that this would not be available to me. I have always been able to purchase this type of transportation on other cruise lines before.

  2. We are booked for Viking Homelands cruise in May 2023 and Viking informed us today that they have eliminated Russia for this cruise. I really appreciate Viking for taking this action well in advance. Even if this stupid war was stopped tomorrow I would not care to support the Russian economy in the future.

  3. I wonder if Viking will still perform covid testing everyday while you are on a cruise since they are removing two major things that would help prevent covid from spreading to begin with. The logic would not make too much sense if they continue to test everyday. I will be on an Alaska cruise in June, will still choose to wear a mask in crowded areas since the virus has not been eliminated from our planet.

  4. Right now I have a 5 day rental from the Anchorage airport though Budget car rental for a mid size SUV for $1,300. Hertz has a office near the Seward cruise port. A 5 day rental from there and the return to Hartz at the Anchorage airport would be $2,000 and I would not know what kind of vehicle until I pick it up. Easy decision to stick with my original plan.

  5. Already called twice and got the same answer. At least the second call they offered the web site Alaska Cruise Transfer.com. Not going to take a taxi, I am sure with current gas prices the cost would be greater than $140 for two. The bus will get me to the airport faster than the train. I suppose I could go to the service desk once on board but don’t feel like waiting that long. Just think this is a lousy policy and Viking has no flexibility. Fortunately I have the flexibility of other cruise lines in the future. Also, those opportunities won’t require full payment one year in advance.

  6. We have paid the deviation fee that Viking requires. They have buses going from Seward to the airport anyway. Looked at renting a car in Seward and return it to Anchorage airport. The cost was almost $2000 with Hertz versus $1300 with Budget for a mid size SUV. Using Hertz, no guarantee what kind of vehicle. Yes, car rentals are very expensive in Alaska. Keep in mind that I would have paid Viking extra money to take a bus to Anchorage and this option was not offered by them.

  7. Planning on taking a Alaska cruise on Orion on 6/12/22, Vancouver to Seward. We are using Viking Air, however we are staying in Alaska for 5 nights on our own when the cruise ends in Seward. I found out that Viking will not transport us to Anchorage airport from Seward port because we are not flying home when the cruise ends.  Usually when you take Viking air this includes transfers. In this case I need to go to the airport to pickup my rental car along with other people flying home. I was told by Viking that they do not offer any transportation to me that I could pay extra for, this is hard to believe. Anyway Viking did tell me about AlaskaCruiseTransfer.com. Fortunately for $70/pp I can buy a bus ticket from Seward to Anchorage airport that leaves at 8:30 am and gets to the airport by 11:00 am. Hope this helps others out of this stupid ruling. I will think twice about Viking and Viking air in the future.

  8. This should be of no real surprise to drop any port in Russia. What person as a resident in the free world would want to contribute to the Russian economy anyway? I am booked to do Viking Homelands in May 2023 and even if they still went to St. Petersburgs next year which I hope they don’t, I would elect to stay on the ship. An absolute disgrace of what Russia has done to the Ukrainian people. For no apparent reason.

  9. I would like an extra day in Copenhagen, could add it on before ending in Stockholm. Had a cruise get canceled because of covid, the Vibrant Cities which I don’t understand why Viking is not offering this anymore.

  10. We are booked for Homelands in May 2023. It would be too bad for some to miss St. Petersburg but much worse is what is currently happening to the independent people of Ukraine. I for one am considering canceling this cruise for May 2023 because I certainly don’t want to contribute to the Russian economy. I hope that Viking makes some itinerary adjustments because it is the right thing to do. The free world needs to stick together.

  11. Booked on this cruise May 29, 2023. In view of the political situation in Ukraine I wonder what policy Viking would pursue if this situation gets much worse  and goes into next year in terms of keeping St. Petersburg on the itinerary? I know that the Viking main office is in Switzerland and that country is always neutral. However the owner is Norwegian and Norway is a member of NATO. Plus there are a lot of Americans that sail on Viking. If things escalate in the Ukraine I wonder what impact if any there will be on Viking Homelands cruise in 2022.

  12. Going on the Orion June 12th, about 110 more days to go. The shore excursion for our cabin class will open on March 27th. However when I go into my account on the Viking site, I see shore excursions with costs and description. It also states that these are of course not available for purchase yet. I just wonder if this listed of shore excursions will change much if at all? I would think that those leaving on cruises in May might already have some experience with this.

  13. We will be taking a Viking cruise on Orion on 6/12/22 from Vancouver. This will be our third cruise to Alaska, spectacular scenery to say the least. We too have sailed on Celebrity many times and have been on one previous Viking cruise. I think a smaller ship for Alaska is better. Yes part of the road in Denali is closed because of rock slide. If you google the park you can get more information on this. Have been to Alaska before on both Princess and Oceania. Frankly I like the south to north route as after leaving Vancouver the scenery only gets more majestic heading north. I know you will enjoy Viking.

  14. Just booked a 2024 cruise for Japan, which would be our first Regent cruise. We have been on Oceania and Viking several times. Those ships tend to be country club casual form of dress at dinner. Is this the situation for Regent as well? Really not interested in bringing a suit and or sport coat with ties with me on this trip. Thank you in advance for your advice.

  15. Have cruised once on a Transatlantic in 2018. Unfortunately, had a cruise get cancelled in May 2020. Currently, we are booked for Alaska Inside Passage this June. We are also booked for Viking Homelands in May 2023. We are currently considering a cruise from Bangkok to Tokyo in March 2024. What kind of promotions and or incentives could I expect to get if I book this Bangkok to Tokyo cruise while on board the cruise to Alaska this June? Also, could you still keep your travel agent on a new booking made on board?

  16. Does anyone know what the current cost is for silver spirits package? My last cruise on Viking Sun in 2018 it was $20 per day per person. Also, can you wait to buy this package on embarkation day? Want to make sure all the covid testing is good before having to pay for this package.

  17. Going on cruise to Alaska on Orion out of Vancouver this summer. Live in the U.S. and flying through Toronto to Vancouver on Friday and the cruise leaves on a Sunday. In order to get into Canada you need a negative PCR test done within 72 hours before entry. This means that I will need to get a negative PCR test done on a Thursday before we arrive on the cruise ships count the hours? In other words if it came out to be 74 hours instead of exactly 72 ? Are they more concerned around 3 days or 72 hours?

  18. Hopefully going on Alaskan cruise on Orion in June. Have read over the current covid protocol and daily testing. What I am wondering, does the crew get tested daily? Seems to me that if Viking has this very strict policy for passengers that they should also be this strict with the crew as well.

  19. Recently received an email from Viking regarding a itinerary change to this cruise. When I called Viking rep they can’t tell me what the change is. The email said that there will be no changes in the ports that the cruise was scheduled to visit. I also checked my calendar in my trip account on Viking and the itinerary shows no changes from the original. Just wondering if anyone knows more here, very strange since the email did not say what the change will be. The email stated to call Viking or contact your travel agent.

  20. Booked on the best of Japan cruise March 27, 2022. If this cruise happens, it now appears that Celebrity wants a negative Covid test result no more than 72 hours before embarking the cruise ship. This is even shorter if flying from the U.S. since via the calendar you lose a day flying to Japan. The only solution would be to get tested in Japan which may not be easy. Some unknowns here, how fast are test results available in Japan? Can test results be given in English versus Japanese? What will the cost of tests be in Japan?
