  1. I'm not sure I understand the point made about Celebrity being able to apportion the cruise vs. post cruise costs as they see fit, as mentioned in post 9.

Six in my group booked cruise only, and have that invoice. They then added a post cruise and received a new invoice. So it's clear how much the post cruise days added to their fare.

They received the post cruise trip, and expect no refund. But they should get the original cruise fare back as a refund, and the same amount as a Future Cruise Certificate.

Your travel agent should be able to re-create the same information for your booking -- the cruise only fare, and then the cruise + post cruise fare. You should expect to receive a refund for the cruise portion, in my opinion.

By the way, each couple in the group was in a different class of stateroom, and I'm checking now, but I believe that each couple had the same differential added to their original booking to reflect the addition of the post-cruise trip. In other words, it should be a fixed amount.

I don't believe that is correct. Pre-paid gratuities will not be refunded for those of us on the August 16 cruise, according to what we were told on board, and confirmed by Guest Relations and Captain's Club representatives since. The port taxes were already pro-rated and returned while we were on board -- check your SeaPass accounts and you should see those amounts there.

As far as I know, no one has received any reimbursement yet for the receipts sent in for the meals. I expect that to take a few more weeks, no matter when Celebrity received the receipts.

Sararaymond -- were you on the August 16 cruise or one of the later cruises that was cancelled? If you were on the August 16 cruise, you probably will not receive a refund for the cruise protection plan. If you were on one of the cruises which followed, I believe that you will receive a refund for the insurance you paid for in addition to the cruise fare, any pre-paid gratuities, and any pre-paid shore excursions, specialty restaurants, taxes and fees, etc.

Those who were on the August 16 cruise will not be receiving any refund for insurance, which, after all, was in force and would have been available to you if needed.

  3. No, it's not just the gov't fees. So far I have received 39% of my cruise fare. Two of my friends who were also on the cruise just checked in and they have received 92% of their fare as refunds on their credit card, each in two different transactions. The first transaction got them about 40% back, the second got them more money back, but they are still about 8% short. Captain's Club said be patient, they are coming in dribs and drabs.

What I don't know is if the travel agent's commission will be coming back to us. I expect it to, but I don't know for sure at this stage. Have any of the reps you spoke to mentioned that factor?

  4. The cancelled cruise shows on my Cruise History, but with zero points. I called Captain's Club and the rep asked if I had received a comp cruise (as if I was a travel agent). I told her no and what I had paid. She then said, oh, it seems like the system sees the refunds and interprets that as meaning the cruise wasn't a revenue cruise, so she would have to manually add the Captain's Club credits in and to give that a few days.

So all who have had their cruises cancelled should check their Captain's Club accounts to see if the same happened to them. At that point, I hadn't received any refund but it was apparently in process.

I just checked my credit card and now I have a refund but not for the correct amount, so will call and see what's up with that. Thanks for posting those phone numbers!

  5. I didn't mean to cause such confusion --

I was trying to make the point, albeit awkwardly, in answer to the question "27 credits, is that actual Days or actual Cruises?" that 27 credits does not mean 27 days, nor does it necessarily mean 27 cruises.

27 Credits (tier credits, points, whatever) could be 27 cruises of 3 days each, or 27 cruises of 7 days each or some other combination of days, stateroom class, etc.

  6. Great idea for a thread

    1. shore excursions and airport transfer refunds went onto my SeaPass account immediately while I was still on board and that has been refunded to my credit card already

    2. Cruise fare has not been refunded to my credit card

3, Future Cruise Certificate has not been received as yet

    4. Haven't submitted receipts for meals for the two days where they put me up at a hotel in Vancouver yet -- will do that late in the week

    5. Ditto for airline change fee and difference in airfare -- will do that later in the coming week

  7. No, nothing to do with any credit card company but I had just come across a woman in tears before I wrote that. She had no credit card (a fair amount of cash with her, so she said, for settling her SeaPass account). No hotel she called would give her a reservation because she had no card to guarantee to. She couldn't rent a car (not sure why that was an option, but she was crying about it). She was among those whose post trip begins Friday in Anchorage but she's been assigned a flight to Vancouver and is being told to just buy a plane ticket and Celebrity will reimburse her, but she can't buy a plane ticket. It's a cautionary tale.

  8. For those who haven't followed the thread about the Millennium cancellation, and in the hopes that a new thread with this info might live on,

We know from Cruise Critic that some passengers travel without a credit card. They choose not to have one, or are unable to get one due to poor credit ratings.

While its true that passengers can set up a cash account, and can prepay all cruise fare, beverage packages, gratuities etc without a credit card, when something goes wrong, as we are experiencing now, passengers who do not have a credit card are very much at a disadvantage. You might say that they are in deep weeds.

The problem is that many of us are having to make our own independent hotel reservation WHICH MUST BE GUARANTEED WITH A CREDIT CARD OVER THE PHONE or on line. Emphasis intentional.

People please, figure out some way to get yourself a credit card. You never know when something will happen to change your plans!

  10. The chart is not predictive -- there is no September chart available in August. The only way this one gets put together is that passengers report in after they cruise (or rarely, during a cruise).

Staff have contracts that vary from 3 months to 6 months, occasionally even more. The contracts are for a time frame, not for a particular ship, and so in the space of a 3 month contract they can move from ship to ship, or stay put. It all depends on the vacation schedules of the others in their positions, as well as promotions, retirements, etc.

  11. "No offense, but seeing alot of threads on TV's makes you wonder why go on a cruise if the TV is so important...stay home, save your money and watch the TV 24/7..."

I guess you have never caught something on a cruise and had to stay in your room for a while.

Or had trouble sleeping and wanted something to watch in the night.
