  1. Welcome back. That's so sad about the recent food on the Freedom. We sailed her in July and found the food good in the main dining room at that time. I would have been disappointed had I been served what you described. I do agree that the ship is dark and in need of a good cleaning and paint job, but we had a good time, otherwise. I don't think it was a favorite Carnival ship for me. Looking forward to our upcoming Horizon!
  2. We've sailed Celebrity and keep coming back to Carnival for price and fun. We loved Celebrity, but found that the staff was a bit standoffish as if they were told not to interact with the passengers much. I love speaking with the crew and where they are from. It adds something special to cruising for me. You will not find table cloths or white glove service or sommeliers on Carnival. You will find good music and entertainment and good pools and bar service and many free dining options. Go with an open mind, you'll have fun!
  3. Just ordered the Mifaso. Thanks, EnglceDave. You are right, Virginiab, Cruise Critic DOES save you money!
  4. Thank you, thank you for taking us on your cruise with you and W. It was a blast! So much of what you described was sooooo real in my life too. I love your sense of humor and your writing style. Thanks for sharing!
  5. Too funny! Does W do that to you in stores while your shopping? MIne will walk off down another aisle or stop and look at canned oysters or shoes or something. I'll be talking away and turn around and he is GONE. More than once I started talking to someone, NOT my spouse, and tried to put things in someone's basket, thinking surely he's right behind me with the buggy. We are taking our first B2B to celebrate our anniversary and my retirement. 14 days with him on the Horizon. Is it big enough?? Can't wait!!🙄
  6. OMG! Wildra, I think you must be mixed up...….you just described my husband and me so accurately. I was laughing so hard when I read this and called my daughter and read it to her. She asked if you were talking about us!! I LOVE your writing style and sense of humor. Please continue!
  7. Wow! If I did the math correctly, that comes out to about $10 for a two ounce pour. (60ml) No thanks!
  8. Here are some pictures of the "inside" cabin and the deck just forward of it on the Horizon. I would assume that all of the Vista class ships are the same.
  9. I've never purchased a bottle for the room, but just knowing they took that option away, really bothered me. I think I'll purchase one now, just because I can!! (And we are not doing Cheers this time.)
  10. Carnival will list some of the obstructed view cabins as interiors and prices them accordingly. We have one of the front view deck 7 cabins for our B2B on the Horizon. We have that "secret deck" in front of us that is accessible. The casino price was too good to pass up. I hope being up front under the bridge will be okay!!
  11. Cruisinsly: Are you coming back to the boards to give us some pictures from the cruise? Would love to know more about it!!
  12. Looking forward to our first B2B on the Horizon. We booked them weeks apart and have to move cabins.....2 doors down! Should be easy for our steward. And I can "messy" pack since I'll be unloading the luggage quickly in the new cabin. I had heard that they will move your hanging items without having to pack them. Does anyone know if that is still true on the Horizon?
  13. Thank you, sunnyv. I've made a reservation with them.
  14. Awesome upgrade!! We loved the Hampton, it was clean and everyone was so friendly. Nice start on your home made mini bar! Enjoy New Orleans!
  15. We stayed at the Hampton Convention Center in April. Not really close to the Quarter, but an easy Uber or a nice long walk if the weather is good. You are just a few blocks and an easy walk from Riverside mall and also Mulates Cajun Restaurant. Highly recommend you go there at happy hour and sit at the bar. In the evening they have live music. Lots of fun. No reason to get into all that mess on Bourbon Street! And on another note, cruising out on the Mississippi from New Orleans is fantastic. Try not to go eat until after dark as you will want to be out on deck and watch the river roll by. Amazing. Have fun!!
  16. All of the soups that I tried in the main dining room on the Freedom in July were AMAZING! I couldn't wait to see what was on the menu each night. I'm not usually a soup kind of diner, especially in hot July, but they all sounded so good, I had to try and so glad that I did.
  17. Absolutely agree! I do find myself searching for group cruises after I book to make sure we are not on a group cruise. I would probably cancel if I thought a group would take over the ship. As far as type of cabin, my DH and I have ranked our cruises as far as enjoyment and we find that it wasn't the cabin or the cruise line that made it to our top 5 list, but the other cruisers and staff that made the cruise outstanding. We do find ourselves a bit more social when we have an inside or window. A bit more "to ourselves" when we have a balcony. Am looking forward to the "suite life" one day!
  18. This is what I get when I try to make an appointment at Walgreens. It asks why I am testing. I chose "traveling" and this page loaded. Oh brother! It's cheaper to get it done at the port, but we want to test before we travel to Florida. I'm going to call our PCP clinic and ask if we can do it there for our copay. 19. Can you please post a link for that announcement? I can't find it on the HHS.gov website. I don't know if my private insurance will follow along and not pay if we don't have exposure or symptoms. I want to do some research before I have to shell out money for 5 people in 2 weeks! That was not part of my cruise budget for sure.
  20. Thanks, Solo! Our favorite is having a great adult beverage and sitting and listening to good music! Glad to hear that the cover band was good. Sad to hear about the pizza. It was great on the Breeze. Hopefully they were just having a bad time of it when you were there. We can always hope it's gotten better. We have a couple of side balconies, starboard side on deck 8 just aft of the mid elevators. Hopefully any soot issues will be addressed by then and if it is on our balcony that it has been cleaned. Thanks for the heads up.
  21. We'll be on the Freedom in a few weeks. Never cruised in summer before and I am expecting crowds. We were spoiled in January on the Breeze with low passenger counts. I knew it couldn't last. At least we'll know what to expect. Other than the crowds, how was the cruise?
