  1. There is something there, but I think it was mostly an extension of the buffet.

They serve late night snacks there most nights, with hotdogs and potato chips.

Thanks for the info. hot dogs, chips etc...that's great to know.

I didn't wonder back that far on my last cruise, and then the previous time we were on the Conquest was before the 2.0.

Thanks both of you for the quick replies.

  2. prices started dropping last week for my up & coming cruise. :D

Made me a happy girl. Honestly, I didn't expect a price drop due to Spring break etc but it seems we still have lots of empty cabins.

We are one week earlier than usual for spring break this year. I like..saves me a ton of $'s.

Someone on our school board must be a cruiser too lol.

  3. After the 2.0 upgrades, did the grill that was near the sky pool aft Lido go away? You know, opposite side of Pizza Pirate (or whatever it's now called)

I know Guys burger joint is the burger station now. I was just curious if the grill was still there or if something took it's place.

The counter still shows up on the deck plans. I just don't know if it's used for anything.

    Curious mind wants to know.

    Thanks,

  4. The check in counter is opene during the morning...sorry i cannot recall the times.

There is a number you can call if you are running late for carnival. If you are cutting the time that close, I'd certainly contact CCL and let them know or try to get an earlier flight. If the flight is delayed the ship will sadly go with out you and you'll spend more catching up to the ship or flight home, or hotel stay until your return trip.

I have flown in the day of the cruise before a couple of times. I prefer not to do this but sometimes there are no other options to it so I understand.

The good news is the port is close to the airport and cabs are right outside baggage claim. hopefully you sit up in front of the airplane so you can get off quicker. Every minute helps.

  5. If you bring your own soda, I would take it in the can/bottle and get a glass of ice there. IMO, a Tervis Tumbler on nice table in the MDR is tacky.

That would be my impression as well.

I have carried my own glass of wine in with me that I was drinking. I have seen others carry in cans of coke and receive a glass of ice.

I have not ever seen anyone carry their tervis tumbler to the MDR.

Could you do it? Sure. But if you are concerned about appearances, I would not do it.

  6. Since you are one big family, I would suggest booking just one, in the name of one of the adults, and then use the luggage tags of that room for everyone in your party of 6.... All the bags will get delivered quickly to that one room, and you can disperse later, to the other room.... Also, you can all take your carry on bags to that one "ready" room as well.... Your family members that are in the "other" room will have to board with the masses, but they will have a place to drop their bags early....

This is what I would do too. It's not hurting anyone else. It may help someone else get the last FTTF actually lol.

The only issue may be if you are tendering to a port in which case, I don't know about that. But if you booked an excursion through carnival, it doesn't really matter much about it.

  7. I have organized, and been to others there were organized.

yes, the cocktail m&g were fun but can be a lot of work. who wants to stress before vacation? not me.

currently, i'm in charge of our informal m&g we are doing on our next cruise. We have set it for 2:30 until sail away...it's a come & go kind of thing. We picked the aft pool. there's a bar, hot tubs, pool, ice cream etc all nearby. there's something for everyone of all ages. we can meet each other and mingle and then do our own thing for sail away, or stay and hang out together. We will be wearing leis to help distinguish us.

We'll just pull a few chairs together.

We have a cabin crawl, poker run and slot pull planned for the next day.

On one m&g I did a trivia contest over our roll call...things that were said and things we learned throughout the span leading up to our cruise. then I gave out a prize that I purchased to 1st and 2nd place.

    Examples

What is X celebrating on this cruise?

How many years has Y been married to Z?

    What state am I from?

It was fun. I did tell everyone in advance there was going to be an exam lol.

Have fun with whatever you decide to do, but let it be your choice if you have to do all the work, and do what you are comfortable with.

  8. Ok I'm confused about the checked luggage boarding the ship. Carnivals website says not to exceed the 50lb weight limit and then it says do not exceed 16"H x 24"W. Then it says there are no length restrictions. I'm so confused.

They have recommendations...that's all guidelines, no laws.

Take what you want. The porters are paid to carry your bags. You tip them to handle your bags. They make hourly as well.

Now, when you carry on your bags, that's a different story. They have to fit in to the x ray machine and you have to be able to maneuver the escalators, lines etc. with carry on luggage.

We drop ours at the curb and then catch up to it on the ship with the exception of our small carry on roller bag....that has medicines, camera, important irreplaceable stuff.

  9. You will have a cabin steward. He or she will take care of your cabin and things that you may need for your cabin....example, ice, glasses, extra pillow etc.

He/she and his team will service your cabin. They will give you turn down service, make your beds in the morning, tidy up, empty trash etc.

I do believe some ships now have you make a request for ice if you want it.

They are like secret ninjas. They are in and out and you hardly ever see them...i've been where I met them on embarkation and never saw them again. My cabin was nice & tidy the entire cruise. It was great.

Have fun and enjoy your cruise..and remember, not maids, stewards. :)

  10. I would love to see a new port as well...

I'd also love to see priority boarding for Platinum + in ports for getting on the tender boats and back on the ship. Wouldn't that be a great benefit???

Costs Carnival zero to have a small sign there stating VIP & FTTF line.

I'd love to see more hot food variety on room service menu.

  11. It only applies to us (Texans that is), and if this little tax keeps us from a state income tax, bring it on! It's a pain, but we don't really buy liquor on cruises, so it isn't a big deal for us. Sorry for the Texans cruising out of Texas that are affected.

LOL...I just cruise out of other ports. I get a cheaper cruise and don't pay that tax lol.

  12. My father is a Texan FWIW & he thinks that they are doing it & all of their other nickel & dime taxes so that they can continue to not have a state income tax.

I can appreciate that....then when I want to purchase, I can pay the taxes on it. I'd much rather have that tax than a state income tax any day!

  13. My son has been going to the steakhouse with us since he was 7 - we have taught him what is acceptable behavior in a restaurant and what is not. And yes, we have been complimented on it :-) I think only you as a parent know what their child's limitations are - mine eats from a regular menu as well, that helps.

Please don't condemn all children because of a few that just can't behave - if I applied that logic to adults, we would be in serious trouble all round LOL

    Love this! So true!

  14. OP wasn't asking everyone's opinion on whether or not to go dining with her child. She was asking if there were kid's menus.

Op, I'm with you...my child(ren) has no problem sitting through a proper dinner. They have manners. I raised them that way.

If they are never in a proper environment, how do we expect them to ever learn it?

It would be nice if there were a child's menu available. Children like eating great food too.

I do believe it's to discourage children as well. But hey, if you want to splurge, go for it.

sometimes i'd rather sit next to a child than some other loud, obnoxious fool snorting and laughing and talking loudly.

    Enjoy whatever you decide.

  15. Does the ship that you are cruising on have an Alchemy Bar? We had great mixologists on the Liberty and most of the drinks were ordered in a similar fashion to the way you describe. Tell them what you do/don't want and they will come up with some very nice concoctions for you.

    That's my suggestion as well.

I do this as well...but I'm the opposite...something fruity, not tequilla hate margaritas etc.

I've never had a problem with a bartender not willing to help out.

  16. I think there is an email you can try but sorry i don't know it off hand. But you may try that.

I can't search for it because i'm at work and the filters on the PC's here will not allow anything to do with gambling.

I have contacted them before through email and it took them a couple of days but they did get back to me.

    Good luck.

  17. Do they have ice breaker parties for kids? Anyone know of a site where kids can email or chat before the cruise? We will be traveling with a 12 year old and it's her first cruise.

on our roll call for our cruise(s) we always mention we are traveling with our kids as does the other parents. we plan a m&g with all of us together (kids included) so we can introduce them on embarkation day.

Other times, when we have flown in a day or two early, we have met other families for dinner etc. and an early m&g where the kids have met.

also, the cruise line is great at introducing/ice breakers for the kids. they know, happy kids = happy moms and happy moms = returning customers.

  18. nope, no one will mention it and it's not even printed on your S&S card. your secret should be safe. :)

Go and have fun. And if she mentions why you are going to the wrong deck, you can say you are going to check out the secret doors or something along those lines.

Enjoy your cruise, and way to go with the upgrade!!

  19. SIL in room by herself and didn't have the inside lock locked?

first off, don't blame the victim....(victim term used loosely but still)

I hate that. Whether the deadbolt was locked or not is not relevant.

Of course we should always have it locked when we are on the inside, but please, don't shift the blame if someone was trying something shady.

I've never felt unsafe on a cruise ship. that's not to say I would let my guard down. But one should always use uncommon sense. Yes, UNcommon sense because common sense is so uncommon lol.

It does seem like John Heald was sending Strawberries...and perhaps had the wrong room and the person delivering was trying to get to the correct cabin. But who knows for sure.

Danger can be anywhere. Not just a ship or foreign port.

  20. no problems...I would book a balcony if possible so when the kids go to bed early, you and dh will have time on the balcony. It also is a great distraction for kiddos while mom is getting ready. dad can have them on the balcony keeping them busy so mom can get ready for dinner etc.

Organization is the key to traveling with 4 in one cabin. I carry 2 over the door shoe holders. I keep the little one's shoes in them, gives me more room in the closet for my shoes lol.

We all have a row of pockets to store our own stuff. sunglasses, ipods, chargers, sunblock, medicine out of the reach of kids etc.

That way, everything is not locked up in the bathroom while one person is in there.

i take a pop up hamper and keep in the corner for all the dirty clothes. When ds was little and we traveled with some of his toys, they would be stored in another pop up hamper.

I did it with teenagers...and that's much more difficult than little kids lol.

have fun...and get a balcony for 4 or 2 connecting cabins.
