The SS United States Conservancy is partnering with the Pollin Group in planning a SS United States Legacy cruise to Bermuda. It's a seven day trip set for May, 2018.

Thanks for posting, DaisyL. We have a 12-day on Grandeur booked for early spring and it may be our last cruise for some time. Looking forward to taking another look at this thread again.

Thanks for brining us along!
-
We've cruised Grandeur more than any other RCI ship and I can honestly say every cruise has met or exceeded our expectations. The crew and hotel staff make the difference.

A tip of the champagne123 glass to you. Congrats!

In the past, I have purchased beverage packages including the bundled Internet/Drink offering and loved it. DW is an iced tea drinker. The new policy makes it cost prohibitive for us.
-
Another Diamond Lounge fan here. Thanks RCI.

The "observatory" is just an elevated sundeck above the buffet... I don't know why it is called the observatory or how it was ever "gone".
Haha. No, there is not a big hole where it used to be. The deck featured a star chart device that stood about 4 feet high. It had been removed during our May cruise.

That IS a great price. I could deal with a little snow on the pool deck for a fare like that. :)

Thanks for the review. Grandeur is the perfect size ship for us. I do miss the observatory at the bow though.

Started checking damage assessments at the port destinations for our April cruise then sadly realized we are not finished with hurricane season yet.
Let's hope Maria will spin off into the ocean and spare the areas hard hit by Irma.

We used a three plug extension that contains a small night light. Works nicely at the desk outlet. We never charge anything unattended.
-
Perhaps the best option is to buy the Internet package or bundle and pull up the news source of your choice on your smartphone? Works for me.

We've cruised several times to Bermuda in October on multiple lines and loved it. Weather was perfect for us.
Is Alaska out of the mix for you?
-
Best to keep checking and good luck.

Thank you! I usually like the logic of "It's better to be over dressed, than under dressed".
Take care.
Quite true, and you'll be all set for picture taking. :)

The SS United States Conservancy now reports a second major gift, $100K from a donor at Long Beach, California. It means the Conservancy has reached nearly sixty percent of its campaign goal of $500K.
Still, no word, update on efforts to attract investors to relocate the ship to NYC.

I don't condone that behavior but a walkway/rail OVER a pool? No amount of signage will stop kids or drunks.
-
Congratulations! You'll be a Crown & Anchor veteran in no time.

The SS United States Conservancy reports it has received a $150,000 contribution to the "We Are the United States" campaign, exceeding the current fund raising goal.

My experience had been that if you check in earlier it seems you get your luggage earlier.

I think that is a correct observation. I used to think the upper decks received luggage first, but not so much.
As long as you have necessities in your carry on bags, no worries. :)

Sadly, the ship seems to be running out of its nine lives. Driving by her South Philly berth, I'm always amazed she is still there.
I have worked as a volunteer on Philadelphia's historic tall ship Gazela. While her construction dates back to 1901, it is said this ship contains timber from the original 1883 ship that was heavily damaged by fire.
Time to build a new "Big U" that could have some components from the original?

eel, nice to see a mostly positive post. I, too, was impressed with the Internet wifi service. :)

From the SS United States Conservancy, here's a newly added home movie taken aboard the ship.
Have you encounted inconsiderate cruisers, and what to do

I agree that the best solution is to ignore those guilty of bad manners. If you have a run in with a shipmate, you will probably bump into said shipmate almost daily for the duration of the cruise. Added vacation stress and not worth it.
