  1. And we know their systems can be easily confused, bless them.
  2. Sometimes they appear on the bed on the first voyage of a next level - or they used to.
  3. I wonder why Cunard do this, which enables anyone not terribly short sighted to identify newbies? I always thought red tops were popular newspapers. 😀
  4. Mine is white with a black top, which presumably indicates I do qualify. Thank you. Now you mention it, I do vaguely remember it.
  5. What is a red card? Other than a badly behaved footballer? I’m sorry I keep showing my ignorance. Ps Don’t know To serve then all my days either.
  6. For UK readers can you elucidate on faculty lounge in some boarding school? I assume it doesn’t refer to high intellectual content and rigorous debate?
  7. Yes, I agree, but at least you can see out.
  8. It is a rare occurrence to have blueberries on the morning of landing at Southampton. 😀 Both mats and bananas appeared after a few days.
  9. Believe me, for someone seriously claustrophobic, hell hole is not unreasonable, given the vernacular way in which the term is used. There is no view, one area of the room has some direct natural light but only from above, while the rest is gloom. And, while it didn’t affect me, because I only passed through it rapidly, while my stomach clenched up, the bar apparently didn’t open until 11am at the earliest, which is rather late for those who want morning coffee. I am not exaggerating to say I would become quite ill if I were confined to that room for any length of time. I hate the concierge lounge on QM2 as well, but at least you don’t have to go there. You have to go through this lounge to get to the QG.
  10. For anyone who might be interested, my review has appeared, though it says very little that is not somewhere on this thread.
  11. We were on QV, and stepped off to this.
  12. So wasn’t it a baggage hall? The station itself, which had room for eight trains is now a Museum, and no longer connected to the arrivals building internally. I believe there is a Terminal at Genoa still, and, of course, much of the Cunard facilities in the basement of their building in Liverpool is still there.
  13. Or they may do a trip to Abbotsbury, which I would be happy to do, despite living so near. Just about hatching time. Aaaaah.
  14. Have you been to Dorset County Museum since it was refurbished?
  15. Dorset is quite nice really. Honest. 😀
  16. Do you know the story of the Katzenstein family, one of Cunard’s better moments? They must have had to dash through there.
  17. Annoying, but the two alternatives sound preferable. The arrivals hall at Cherbourg is worth the trip alone. I do hope it turns out well for you.
  18. I think if you are going to have a city break somewhere like York or, indeed, Chester, both of which have enough to occupy you for several days, the last thing you want is a car while you are there.
  19. I must say I think highland scenery tends to be a bit like a Wagner opera, dramatic initially, but rather depressing and samey, what with the weather. I would say the same about Norwegian fjords.
  20. I don’t think you see much of the UK from the ship, because the places it can dock are so limited. If you want to visit some of the great cities, York, Newcastle, Glasgow, Manchester, the train might be a good way. If you want to visit more rural areas like the North Yorkshire Moors, or Devon and Cornwall, a car will be useful. Or you could for instance combine a few days in York with a few days touring the moors. The one place that is splendid to visit by ship is Liverpool.
  21. Perhaps they could ask them to oversee disembarkation and reembarkation.
  22. I imagine it may depend how important you think you are. It was weird because the rest of him (that I could see) was perfectly conformist.
  23. Yes, it is extraordinary how much has grown up since 1968, though on some of the West of Scotland routes they have quite a lot of steam trains, so I would have thought they would want to keep the growth down.
  24. Yes, the west coast lines are even nicer. The trouble with the car is that, for now at least, someone has to drive and concentrate on that, and can’t enjoy the scenery in the same way. Whereas with the train everyone gets the views.
  25. No. Not that I would recognise Mr. Ure, but I did work out who this person was.
