1.
We just received the following e-mail from RCI. With all that went wrong (see various threads), we would like to ask our fellow cruise critic friends if this is what you would do if you owned a company that screwed up and wanted to encourage their customers (passengers) to try your product again.

I'm not sure if you can really say RC screwed up. They don't control the weather. And as far as the construction goes, you have to take into consideration "remodeling" doesn't always go as planned. Anyone who has ever renovated a home knows this. Or have you ever stay at a hotel when construction was being done? It's the same thing. However a hotel patron usually has to complain in order to get any compensation, and usually it's done after the front desk has tried switching you out to another room.

RC offering a 20% discount for a future cruise across the board seems extremely fair to me. I'm sure not everyone on the cruise complained in order to get this (1st world problems). You wanted your vacation to be stress free and perfect, I get that. But let me ask you this; what would you have considered to be fair outside of the 20% discount?
  2. We are signed up for March. So any suggestions on how to "period" dress without taking a much of extra stuff. I plan to rent a tux anyway so I can probably accessorize it. Also, suggestions for DW as she is freaking out about what to wear.

Which sail date in March? We signed up in March too :D

  3. I initially booked my cruise back in May. Now I'm considering canceling to rebook in order to purchase 'cancel for any reason' trip insurance. I also would like to transfer the newly booked reservation to a TA for the perks. I understand I would lose my initial room if not rebooked immediately and all the other reservations/excursions. However is there any real downside to this I am not seeing? The deposit to book is not an issue.

  4. A few weeks back I was a little let down for the date/time the PP was being scheduled for. It was set for a day in port at 3:30 PM. I thought this was extremely odd and saw some posters here asking about a 1:00 PM scheduled PP for their cruises. I love dressing up for parties (Halloween here I come!) My wedding was a theme wedding (zoot suits, fedoras, and flappers) Although this was not the sole reason I booked the AOS, it was a pretty big deciding factor way back in March.

I just looked at the cruise planner website for fun. RC has now changed the PP to 10:30PM! \o/ I am so excited right now...I feel like running around in circles :D

So for those of you who were wondering about the scheduled times like I was, keep checking back. Hopefully those times will change like mine did.

  5. With my luck, the potential price drop received would mess up my reservation given their website is acting funny. Yes I have my most recent invoice and would definitely request one after receiving the drop. But if the change could potentially mess up my rate/balance, I'd rather just leave it alone. Is it worth it??

  6. Does RC now require proof of vaccinations when traveling to the Caribbean? Their website states it is the responsibility of the traveler to obtain and have available (when necessary) proof of vaccination certificates. I checked RC's recommended websites (CDC, WHO) regarding these and only see routine vaccinations and two recommended (Hep A and Typhoid). Is it now common for US travelers to the Caribbean bring these certificates of vaccination? I don't remember having to bring this the last time I was in the there.
