  1. There is two way to have a look at this.

I have always asked to have the mini emptied...except on my very first cruise...and I was charged a box of Pringles that was already missing when we got the room  .. but that's an other story...

So, we always ask that it be emptied.

1- the mini gets emptied and stuff stays in the room ( YOU are responsible for the items )

2- the mini gets emptied and stuff goes away ( butler/steward is responsible for it )...if stuff goes missing he/she has to pay for it.

There are many reviews of cruiser that have been charged for items they didn't consume.

And there area also mixed reviews about the temperature of the mini's....I must have been lucky because I always had a very cold mini....and many cruisers have reported that the mini is only a cooler and not getting things cold.

We have always had good luck with cold fridges also. We have always brought on room temperature water and soda it will be cold by the time we want them.

(Now watch, I hope I haven't jinxed is for the next time!)

  2. A few things..being seasick, tight spaces, capsizing (which I know is probably insane!) I somehow let my fears get the best of me...especially with something new. I don't know a lot of people that have been on cruises so I have no idea what to expect! I wasn't sure how safe it actually is! I know I probably sound like a fruit cake...my husband tells me I am everyday...lol!! I just need to know we will be ok!!

You are not alone. I did the same thing and almost cancelled our first cruise. Then fell in love with cruising. Bad things still run through my head right before we leave, but then I think about how great it is and talk myself out of the bad thoughts (I think my brain is just made that way). The excitement of walking up to that ship and up the ramp is a great feeling. You don't want to miss it.

  3. I wouldn't stress out about it. There are always restaurant spaces available after boarding and each day as you want. They only book a certain number ahead of time.

Everyone can't possibly know what they want to do on any particular day.

No disrespect intended but this is not always true. We tried to get into Le Bistro for just the two of us and there were no times available except very late on a couple of nights. :(

  4. Is everybody ready for their 2014 Escape cruise?!

    qnn3tt.jpg

Typo on the German NCL site under the Latitudes offers.. :D

Lets see. We will be on the Sun Panama Canal cruise this October and then we have to jump over to Southampton for the Escape for the TA right after we get back. They must be really working fast on the ship! :D:D:D

  5. I use the AdBlocker add-on to my Google Chrome browser that eliminates these annoying adds. Works great. Look for one that works with your browser.

I have this AdBlocker and all it does is make blank boxes where the ad would be. Everything is still moved over and smaller. Very annoying!

  6. You are obviously really organized and a big planner. Sometimes I find that when I plan things and things don't go as planned I am way more disappointed and less flexible then when I wing it and am thrown some curve balls. Do you think that you will change your pre cruise preparation at all due to your experience on this trip?

BTW congrats on your graduation. Well done!

Yep, I'm a super big planner. I hate to just wing it. I'm not very good at winging it and when we have tried (obviously times we have traveled with Kendra) it turned out a complete mess.

I also do my research (especially the ports) and know what to expect. I also go there knowing that my observations and likes/dislikes might not jive with others. So, I go there with an open mind and no matter if I like the place or not, I try to have a good time and take the best from it. I do speak my thoughts on it though, whether others agree or not. It's my opinion.

As far as changes...I can tell you that I will probably never book another cruise that I haven't researched prior to booking. :p Planning is the only way I function properly and I think that part of that contributed to the failure of this cruise. Even if I don't have a cruise planned, I will continue to research different places and know that when I do book a cruise there, I will know exactly what I'm doing. :D

Thanks so much for the congrats. Also thanks so much for all the Mullet Bay/Maho info. Your help was priceless and made it a wonderful day there.

I was wondering the same thing. I am a big one for planning ahead. The one time that I didn't really plan ahead was our Breakaway cruise and it was the only somewhat disappointing cruise we have been on. Although we loved Bermuda and can't wait to go back! We have two more booked and I am planning away!

  7. Sigh, don't remind me. I have to get this review done so that I can get the rest of my house put together to start studying for the NCLEX. Aren't you the one that told me about the "nursing cruises" for classes during one review? :D

I love your review with pictures. I can't wait for more!

And congratulations on your graduation! You're done with the hard part! The NCLEX wasn't that bad. I took it 20+ years ago and my daughter just took it in February. Seems to be about the same old questions!

  8. No way to tell which side the ship docks on. It can change from cruise to cruise depending on what kind of maintenance (lifeboats, etc) is being done while in port.

This is true, no way to tell. When we went with my brother and sister in law we each had a cabin on opposite sides. both views are great.

  9. A few times when we did not want to wait for our room, we booked for the day before. We told the hotel we would not be arriving until early the next morning but because we had paid for the day before, our room was waiting for us when we arrived. Of course, that added expense but it sometimes was worth it to us.

IF you do that, be certain to tell the hotel what you are doing so they don't call you a no show.

    This is an awesome idea!

  10. I also know that Tricare will pay. I had to see the ships Dr a few years back. I did pay up front and then upon returning home I submitted the bill to Tricare and was totally reimbursed.

That's good to know. We have Tricare as a secondary, I wonder how that would work for us? They always pick up what our primary doesn't, but not sure what would happen if we were out of the country.

  11. Never on a ship but in a castle we stayed at in London. I saw a lady in our room. Freaked me out at the time and my husband thought I was nuts. We didn't know the place was actually haunted until we saw a story about the same castle and the same lady haunting it 5 years later on TV.

  12. When we were on our Alaskan cruise we actually asked the captain at a Q&A how often ships hit whales. He said that it does happen but the they have equipment on board to tell them if whales is near, especially important in the breeding season. He also said that if they do hit a whale a big fine is given. Just curious if this was just his standard answer or if this is actually true?

  13. I hope that all of you posting ANY level of detail about the medical issue realize that it is ILLEGAL to disclose ANY medical information about someone that you do not have EXPRESS authorization to disclose. This is true no matter how you got the information, including if it was obtained on maritime radio. HIPPA laws can be enforced by the party who is experiencing the medical issue and can include substantial fines. On top of all of that, it is just plain common courtesy to leave someone's medical issues as a private matter.

I am sue there will be some who could not care less about the law or the personal privacy of the individual involved, I am merely explaining the alw to everyone.

Oh geez! Really? Someone needs to educate themselves on HIPAA.

  14. Nope, we're a party of four. The capacity stayed the same for each cabin. Also, we were moved from port to starboard side.

It's fine though. I'm guessing there was a group that needed two adjacent cabins or something, so they just moved us.

Yep, that's what they told us. We got moved three times on our first cruise without being notified. When I finally asked my PCC, she told me it was for various reasons like needing two adjacent cabins or cabins across from each other. From that point on we have always asked them to put "do not move without prior notification" on our reservation. We have not been moved since. :D
