  1. A passenger has died through a accident on the Q.E.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/cruises/cruise-news/11509466/Queen-Elizabeth-passenger-dies-boarding-a-cruise-ship-tender.html

  2. Thank you.I have booked a PG for a short trip and have said I will accept an upgrade( first time I have ever done that as I am fussy about my cabin location normally),it is a P2, so just wondered what sort of upgrade I am likely to get?
I booked a P1 on a short trip on the Q.V Last year & I was upgraded to a Q.3 on deck 4 something like 4099!! excellent cabin I certainly would have that cabin again.
  3. P&O have just changed to procedure of claiming this benefit, Has Cunard changed as well!!

They have changed part of the procedure. We have recently changed the way we add on military benefits and so for future bookings if you just mention it at time of booking they can add this on for you. You would then just need to take your proof onboard with you, So Now you only have to send your details once & for future bookings tell whoever you are booking with & it will automatically be added to your account onboard,But you have to show your proof of service to the Pursers to prove it

  5. P&O is a Carnival Brand & Carnival do not allow UK TAs to undercut prices UK TAs get between 5/12.5 % commission depending on how many Carnival Brands cruises they sell & if they are caught undercutting the commission is cut as well. But they are allowed to give other incentive like, Free Car parking/Free Excursion/ More O.B.C/Free Meals in Speciality Restaurant's

  6. Cunard now use Green Dry Cleaning, This I found in Wiki it explains why some items should not be used in this process as it ruins the Garment.

    D5 solvent properties

The International Fabricare Institute (a trade association for garment care and dry cleaning) conducted an independent, comprehensive study of the GreenEarth Cleaning system in 2002 to assess its effectiveness compared to tetrachloroethene (a dry cleaning solvent commonly known as PERC). The study found PERC and GreenEarth “virtually identical in terms of the ability to remove stains completely,” except for ballpoint pen and shoe polish stains.

The IFI also tested common materials that pose problems for regular drycleaners, such as leather, sequined and beaded garments. Specialty fabrics and decorative trims withstood the GreenEarth process much better than the PERC process—which can remove paint on sequins and dissolve some plastic beads, so that such items must be tested before cleaning.

A separate evaluation of alternative solvents by the IFI in 2007 using the same criteria rated GreenEarth as "good" in the areas of capital costs and health, and “excellent” in the categories of cleaning, environmental safety, ability to handle fabrics and trims and labor/operating efficiency. PERC received a “poor” rating in the areas of health and environmental safety and excellent in all other areas.[1]

  7. I was just reading through the information on our Voyage Personalizer for our May 10 crossing and came across this:

"The new Queen Elizabeth Theatre Company offers spectacular shows at sea in the classically styled Royal Court Theatre with musical diversity, inventive choreography and dazzling costumes."

That's definitely a change in wording from the advertised Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) being onboard to perform and conduct several acting workshops. Does anyone know if RADA has been dropped???

You seem to be mixing your ships up, The Queen Elizabeth Theatre Company is for The Queen Elizabeth not the Queen Mary2 This is what Peter Shanks sais on the matter. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Queen+Elizabeth+Theatre+Company
  8. I recommend that you get a Credit card for cruising for the following reason's.

1 Medical Emergence's the 1st Question that many Hospitals & Doctors ask is what Credit card you have you are paying with for treatment, You pay then claim the charges back later from your travel insurance this applies Ashore & on the Ship & those charges can be Steep.

2 Debit Cards payments can take up to a Month settle down after you return from a cruise & in the meantime as they put a hold on a unknown amount of money on your card, This can cause havoc on Standing orders Etc..

3 At the end of your cruise you can then pay off your Credit card with your Debit card & Cancel the Credit Card.

  9. Cunard do have a completely different set of rules for different Countries. Example I have a booking on a Cunard fare that I booked last November. Last week I saw that Club Cabins prices had gone down, So I phoned Cunard to see if I could pay the extra $2400 to upgrade to Club, The reply was that it would cost me $ 4050 I asked why it was $1650 more than the current price & the reason is that that you have to pay the price of the original booking, Now in the States you can cancel with out any lose of deposit & rebook at the New price in the uk you can not, That's NOT good business practise as I have not upgraded & Cunard have lost the $2400 that I would have willingly paid to upgrade but!! I am not paying to be ripped off.

  10. This is how I managed, Wardrobe near the door, Mine Suits Jackets Shirts ect all hung up & on the floor 1, empty medium sized Suitcase, This is for the Laundry , Centre Wardrobe the Wife's Tops on hangers & on the shelves ect, And on the floor make up case, 3rd Wardrobe Wife's long dresses & on the floor a case with all her underwear in, That's 3 cases stored . Under the bed right hand side 1 large & 1 Small wheelie case Suitcase Left hand side 1 Large case with a Medium case inside & 2 Suit Carriers' all empty, That another 5 cases stored, I Pulled out the Sofa & placed behind it 2 Large cases then pushed the Sofa back I only lost the depth of the cases in room space, That's 11 cases stored the 2 draws at the foot of the beds the wife used those for her Handbags' Hairdryer ect

  11. Well, that's not really the case as anyone who has recently sailed can attest. Table configurations are more or less stable. Having said that, IME there are a row of 6-tops along the rear windows of the lower level of Britannia where we sat on our LA-FLL transit. Highly recommended. Why not take a chance on #5 and #6 and request one of those tables. No need for a table number - just request by location as we successfully did.
I completely agree deck 2 stern tables are the best great view of the wake & to be able to see a departing port at sunset brilliant, Worst tables are portside near the swing doors to the galley dinning there is like eating dinner in the middle of a Motorway.
  12. ...why wouldn't Kittiera started a new post with his/her question, rather than resurrecting a post from six plus years ago???:confused::confused:
Its his/her 1st post on C.C so & he/she provably does not yet know how to start a new tread.
  13. Sorry for the poster's disappointment. These weather conditions are often to be expected at this time of year in coastal UK and USA waters.

With the exception of a rough wintertime crossing which can be exciting (have done several with QE2, QE and QM2), I often wonder why aren't QV and QE - even QM2 - deployed to warmer climes at this time of year? I read so many reports of skipped ports, closed-off decks, strong winds, high seas, etc.

It seems quite peculiar of Cunard to have two cruiseships (QV, QE) bouncing around during the winter months in European waters and calling at grey, raw and windy ports in Northern Europe or the Med. These are the cruises that historically have been hard-sells and are often heavily discounted. Perhaps cruises to more wintertime-friendly regions and ports would be less prone to bad weather conditions and would perhaps sell better.

I recall that once November and December arrived, QE2, for example, would do line voyages from Southampton to Cape Town via the Canaries, cruises to the Caribbean from New York and/or Southampton, even a cruise to Rio, before embarking on her traditional world cruise in January.

As much as I love visiting the major cities of Europe, I would rather be in sunnier and warmer places at this time of year.

    :)

Next Year they are doing a 24 day cruise from to Southampton to the Caribbean Starting on the 18th Nov & Ending on the 12th Dec so they are considering changers MAYBE!!
  14. When making a dummy booking in the UK you have to give a name/birth date & year of birth, BUT NO EMAIL ADRESS UNLESS YOU MAKE A FIRM BOOKING. Now I did not make a firm booking & I used a completely fictitious name address ect, So how did some one in Dubai get my Email address& fictitious name which I only use for Cunard, And after spending all of yesterday searching through my computer I found a Trojan bug which I have managed to get rid of this bug must have come from Cunard UK website as I always use Cunard's website direct.

  15. I have lately been making Dummy bookings on Cunard's UK Site & I of course have been using a Alias name & today I have received 2 Emails from a Dubai Addressed to the Alias name that I used , But the real issue is that at no Time have I ever given them my Email address when making Dummy bookings & Cunard is the only site that I have used this Alias name .

  16. Cunard are in the process of changing the embarkation procedure, It used to be Turn up wait a little while then board, But!!! how the new system will actually work is not yet known. Cabins are available as soon as you board no waiting around for them to be made ready.

  17. One of the most entertaining threads I have read for a long time. It's given me a good chuckle!

We are on QV on 7th December. Diamond in Q4. Red square with purple centre.

I wonder if anyone from Carnival reads this. We must come across as budding Sherlocks or village idiots :D:D

I have just printed off our new E-tickets too. I didn't even know they had changed until I read it on here

I have exactly the sane as you for my upcoming short trip on the Q.E. I also am Diamond but I am in a Britannia BC Balcony cabin.
