  1. We were on from Dec 30th for 2 weeks and I must say I was more than disappointed with it We a]have green sailing on the Dream since 2010 and this last one the standard as gone down hill As as been said before Thomson are trying to cut corners and loose customers I have written to Thomson but as yet not had a reply We are now looking at sailing with an other line

  2. I had a camera stolen from a suitcase (plus Her Ladyship's cosmetic bag) on the return leg from Red Sea Magic a few years ago.

The theft certainly didn't occur on the ship, or during luggage transit to the coaches at Sharm el Sheik - the cases were intact at airport check in.

I suspect it must have happened in Sharm airport prior to loading the aircraft.

Thomsons gave me half of the cost of two new suitcases - after I'd sent photographic proof of the busted eyes on the zips where the padlocks were yanked off.

It would have been 100% if I'd kept the original proof of purchase receipts - but who does ?

I now secure the case zips with a padlock and a plastic cable tie - the latter are not theft proof, however they (hopefully) deter opportunist thieves who want to make a quick acquisition.

The small print in Thomsons brochure instruct customers not to carry valuable items in hold luggage - and I imagine travel insurance policies are similar.

I think you did well to get 50% of the cost of the case from Thomson. A couple of years back we had the handle of an expensive case broken off on the coach transfer from ship to airport . It was reported to thomson staff at the airport but the coach had already left We reported it to or T/A (thomson shop) the next day but after about 6 wks Thomson would not give us anything.

  3. I don't think this new one is quite so customer friendly, Sailaway.;):)

Well if she is not customer friendly how does anyone expect the rest of them at the big white tower to care about the customers that pay their wages .I think they all should spend time in the shops and ships and see how to look after customers

  4. I think most things have been said The thing that sells Thomson to us are the staff on the ship. I always find them very helpful and will do anything for you if it is possible They work long hours but always seem to give you a smile. One that as not been mentioned is the crew show .It is on in the broadway once a week at 23.30 and stars members of the crew from different departments

  5. I have read on another site that if someone is booked on a 7 day cruise they get to select their seats a week before someone travelling out on the same flight but staying 14 days and returning a week later

When this is pointed out it is obvious but I had not even thought about it .When I reserved our seats quite early on the 90th day a lot of seats had already gone and I thought then that it was a bit odd , now I know why, the seats had been taken by people only staying 7 days

.Had everyone else realised this or am I the only dim one .

I realised that a while back and people paying more money Thomson get less choice

  6. When we were on in Sept The Drill was done at 21.30 (sail at 23.00) You have take your life jacket to your munster station. If you are on for 2 weeks you do not have to attand the second week. I believe it is now maritime law now since the Costa sank that it as to be done before the ship sails

  7. Hi Muffinman we are on this cruise the week before you. We are in our late fifties, usually never tucked up in bed before midnight. We can usually be found sitting at the back of ship at night watching the world sail by. Most of the cruises we have done at this time of year has been a mixture of ages. We shall have to arrange a meeting place when you and Iain come on board. Dave & Carol:D:D

We are on the Dec 30th for 2 weeks We never go to bed before 12 .Normally in the Ocean Bar Or Delo for the music In our 60's

  8. We have done both Pompeii and Herculaneum and I preferred Herculaneum They are both very good. Pompeii was very big and uneven to walk on (and as I always say only place my wife and I have been in a brothel ha ha )Herculaneum is sit not all opened up as there are people still living over it and will not move That was a few years back Really speaking they are both worth seeing So book another cruise so you can do both

  9. Just back on Saturday from a week on the Dream although our luggage appears to still be on holiday somewhere! Palma airport was a nightmare. Conveyor belts broken down and no air conditioning. We had to queue for three hours to get our luggage through then delayed over an hour on the plane because paperwork not right. Eventually got to Glasgow and low and behold cases have gone elsewhere. Anyway had a fab weeks holiday. Weather was a bit too hot mind you although folk onboard told us they had sailed through a gale the week before and lots of people were seasick. Did notice much more supplements on the AI drinks menu. I'm sure the Bombay gin and a few other premium brands were free last year. The crew were amazing as usual and we didn't feel we had to wait for drinks. We ate in the Grill one night and the MDR for the remainder of the week. The waiters don't appear to sing as much, other than birthday wishes and the Baked Alaska number, which we found disappointing. We always enjoy the cabaret during dinner. The food was lovely and we did not have to wait long between courses. We had a letter under the door informing us that there had been some sickness onboard and that the food would be served by waiters in the buffet restaurant. The jacuzis were shut down as well. We were fine though and did not hear anyone complaining. Just a note to any bingo fans they are pulling a fast one this year by printing in the cruise news that the jackpot will be won on the second last night and not the last night. Of course the lounge was full of people who were then told that there had been a typing error. They did offer people their money back if they wanted, but of course nobody bothered to take them up on the offer. On the was back home we met folk who had been onboard the week before and they had played the same trick!

Bit sneaky that. We stayed in a Grand Suite and although it was lovely it is beginning to show a bit of wear and tear and could do with a spruce up. All in all another lovely cruise.

Shame about your luggage but on the bright side better go missing on rtn than on outward Bombay gin was on drinks package last year We were on 31 may and had a great time food good, staff excellent and the white lady still going strong

  10. We were on the Dream at the start of June and have booked for the new year We fond the food in the MDR to be good and the service excellent our cabins were always clean as was the rest of the ship Yes it is not as posh as the big liners but I know what prefer the staff that always have smile and always go out of their to help you enjoy your holiday
