and what is the Silver Seapass? I recall that Gold and above have special seating in the theaters, ice show and swimming areas.

  2. Yup, that's us. We booked the Royal Suite on the Feb 3-10 AoS trip last year when the bookings opened. It is our 10 year anniversary. There is only ONE option with a RS available and our friends can't come with us because their kids have spring break that week. So, I'm bummed. And I just bought our plane tickets a couple weeks ago. So, it looks like we're going to do another cruise line. Celebrity or Oceania are our two choices right now, but also considering Sea Dream. That benefit is we can still use our plane tickets :-) There are worse things that can happen, but I'm still incredibly disappointed.

Love to hear back on what you decided and how your experience is. Loyalty goes both ways and mine is wavering.

  3. I need to discuss with my husband but I think that's what we will end up doing as well. But the airfare looks like it's about $100 more a person. We got married on Serenade in 2009 so it might be nice to be back on another ship like her. But we will definitely miss the Royal Promenade :( I agree with you about Aruba and Curacao. We visited them for the first time this past January and they were amaaaaazing! But we have Freedom booked for 2019 (think the same B2B you do) so we will have to wait to go back until then I suppose!

Is the OBC 200/person per week? I was thinking it was only going to be 200/week.

We are waiting another 55 days and going on Adventure to Aruba and Curuaco anyway. Love to hear what you loved about those stops. The only reason we booked this cruise was for Aruba. Hope we aren't disappointed. It's been a long, hard road. (One I NEVER anticipated traversing!)

Is the Senior Officers' Cocktail Party on a certain lenght cruise?

  5. thanks everyone for your help. Since you are were so attentive anyone want to take a stab and trying to sell our crossing over for our 2019 cruises. We are 50 years old with 3 grown children, ride a Harley, love the Beach, have to have at least a Balcony and fun but not dancers or partiers. We love eating in the dining room and sunning by the pool. The Windjammer has gotten to be a big drag for us. We will be in our first Junior Suite to Bermuda June 30 for our 30th anniversary.

  6. I realize this is a very useless question at this time because the Captain's Club is/has undergone recent changes.

I know nothing about Celebrity other than my daughter seems to feel it's a better fit for us. We just had a cruise cancelled at RCC and their lack of equal compensation has us at the end of our ropes.

Based on the old criteria perhaps can you tell us what we would have received. What are their ammenities like is there special on deck sitting space, discounts on cruises or amenities you have received?

  7. I know you were on our roll calls. Sorry you bought the airfare:(. We'd been looking and thankfully hadn't pulled the trigger on it yet. Just got off the phone with the "redployment" line. Booked B2B on Jewel to replace what was cancelled. We were looking forward to the Aruba/Curacao stops but at least we got another B2B from SJU. The 400.00/week OBC will come in handy at least.

is the $200 per person and not per cabin then?

  8. I'm on the phone right now about the Feb10 '18 cruise- right now, it looks as if it's been shortened to 5 nights, starting on Feb 12. So still Valentine's day.

(the Jewel on Feb 11 isn't available, as it's contracted out- so it's good we didn't keep that cruise.)

please advise as to the altered itinerary. Even though that's one of the acceptable dates I couldn't find a cruise offered that day.

  9. My husband and I will be on with you Jan 13, 2018! We are doing 13th and 20th. B2B is the only way to go!

We will be with you the second week of your 2018 B2B. Love to have you join us on the Roll Call. We were also taken to Dickenson Beach in 2014 and whole heartedly agree with the taxis and the beach. (Little did we know) back then but we ran into RCC's excursion leaving as we arrived early afternoon after shopping in town. They were only there for several hours and we had our own excursion including drink for less than half the time they did.

  10. Be forewarned, the ferry ride from Crown Bay to Cruz Bay is 35-45 minutes and can be choppy especially because the ferries try to run at full throttle in open water. It really depends on the sea conditions. On the other hand, the ferry ride from Red Hook to Cruz Bay is only about 20 minutes and is more tolerable in terms of ride quality (crosses the somewhat protected channel between the islands) but that involves taking a taxi from the cruise port over to the east end of St. Thomas.

Thank you. I'll have to wait till he's happy about our new couch and spring it on him then!! I just have to do this.

  11. Define "bad experience?" There are several private ferry services and several types of ferries, and it's not clear in advance which one will operate the excursion on a particular day. Ocean Dreams Water Taxi has a brand new high speed ferry that is very nice, but I don't know if RC uses them. Some of the other ferries are older, slower or less comfortable but they are all larger than tenders.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Perfect if it's larger than a tender. Things like how far and how choppy. Fishing boat 6 miles out to ocean and 6 ft high waves. Even those who were seasoned got sick. Only me and another wife did not

  12. Hey B&J_Pgh! Seems like Freedom was so long ago already, doesn't it? The southern itinerary is our favorite, and we love Adventure of the Seas! We have it booked for March, 2018. That being said, January is part of the high season for San Juan, PR. People from colder places try to escape the snow. As soon as you book your cruise, get your hotel(s) booked if you plan to stay pre/post cruise. They definitely can fill up.

    Happy Planning!

Thanks for dropping us a line. So sorry we missed meeting. I guess we are still cheap or optimistic as this will be our second time leaving from PR and feeling like the onboard time being so late we won't be staying overnight. That's what some of my concern over the Festival likely being that weekend has made me a bit nervous but not quite nervous enough to anty up the extra bucks which we are hoping can be used to upgrade to a Junior Suite later on. Thank you for your warning though.

  13. Thanks for reporting back. I booked my Adventure cruise 700 days ago when it first came out the prices were ridiculously low. We got a Junior Suite for about 60% of what we paid for a D class balcony on Oasis last year. The price has since more than doubled, so we are very anxious to be on board.

How does one become aware of a cruise that far in advance. We are hoping March 1 to be able to schedule one for end of June/beginning of July 2018. Is this a prefered status of being Diamond or above or something?

  14. Thanks for reporting back. I booked my Adventure cruise 700 days ago when it first came out the prices were ridiculously low. We got a Junior Suite for about 60% of what we paid for a D class balcony on Oasis last year. The price has since more than doubled, so we are very anxious to be on board.

I can't thank you enough for sharing that information. We are trying to schedule one for June 2018 as our anniversary (30th) gift to ourselves to go Emerald. Our hopes are either to find a suite for January 2018 cruise at a good price or to get it for June.

  15. It showed up in my Cruise Planner. I did talk to RCL and they did say the offer wasn't available on every ship and every sailing. Being a year out or your cruise, I suspect they'll see how many packages sell at the "regular" rate before they start cutting prices.

(BTW--- I'll assume the PGH in your screen name is for Pittsburgh. I am Pittsburgh born and raised. Aliquippa specifically. Sisters live in Moon Twp. Mom lives in Upper St. Clair. Still hold my Steeler season tickets even though I live in Philly.)

assumed correctly. Suburb 20 minutes east of the city. Born and raised.

  16. Yes we would never recommend joining a tour - through the cruise line or an independent - if you are looking for a nice long beach day. The taxi system is extremely efficient and in my opinion affordable, unless you are a large family perhaps. Save PP for a future cruise (or land vacation ;)) and just enjoy one of the beautiful beaches for your beach day this visit. You don't want to be moving around and limit your beach time, especially if the weather is nice. :)

You are now comparing Lindbergh Bay to Brewer's Bay and we would choose Brewer's but you may want more of the beach club experience available at Lindbergh.

For others we (and many others) would recommend one of these two options for a gorgeous beach for a couple to enjoy - yes the taxi is another 20 minutes versus Lindbergh Bay, and Lindbergh is a favorite to many who dock at Crown because of the convenience. But for that gorgeous beach experience consider one of these options -

    1) Stop at Gourmet Gallery next to the dock and pick up a cooler with ice, your favorite drinks, and something from their excellent deli and taxi to Smith Bay Park and enjoy what is arguably the most beautiful beach you've experienced.

    2) Taxi to Sapphire and grab a spot in a nice, shaded area and let the runners wait on you while you enjoy the gorgeous sapphire-colored water and the beautiful island views.

Again you really cannot go wrong, it's just a matter of whether convenience overrides the experience.

You made the choice really clear because we aren't so much into the beach club environment but beautiful beaches Thank you.

  17. Thanks for the review. Very detailed, informative and fun. Your approach to the Deluxe package is exactly the same as ours. AND TODAY (2/3/17) RCL lowered the price of the package to $38+18%. Our group saved a total of $300.

I will be very interested in your St. Lucia and Barbados port reviews. We have extensive tours schedules for St. Maarten, St. Kitts, and Antigua. The last two stops we intend to just bum around some.

    Cheers.

how did you find the reduced drink package. When do they come available via "My Cruises" at RCC? They aren't even offered yet for our January 20, 2018 cruise?
