  1. It says men need to wear long sleeves on casual nights. Is this enforced? Are nice golf shirts a no no?

Your husband will be perfectly fine with a short sleeve shirt or a nice golf shirt on casual nights. My husband always wears shirts with short sleeves on casual nights and we have seen men with golf shirts as well. The only time my husband wears a long sleeve shirt is for 'chic' nights.

  2. My family and I (all adults) are going on the Bermuda cruise (docking in Kings Wharf) this summer. Does anyone have suggestions about the best shore excursions? We are planning on booking the Crystal Caves excursion but we have two other open days. The Celebrity website isn't letting us select days or times for excursions but that's another story lol.

You do not need a ship's tour in Bemuda. Taxis are freely available at the Dockyard where the ship docks and most of the drivers are certified Blue Flag guides. Just ask at the taxi rank. We were in Bermuda in 2014 on the Summit and on the 2015 Eclipse Transatlantic. We used these taxi tours in 2014 and the guide was very good and he showed us lots. We paid $40 an hour and did a four hour tour. I imagine it will a bit more now but if there are a few if you it would work out quite reasonable.

We also went to Crystal and Fantasy Caves on our second day when the Summit was in Bermuda. It's reachable by bus from Hamilton and St George's . There's also a Swizzle Inn within a minute's walk from the caves and a bus to Hamilton from there.

When we went to the caves we took the ferry to St George's, taxi to the caves, walked a few minutes to Swizzle Inn ( nice food, great rum sizzles), bus back to Hamilton and then ferry back to the ship.

At the time we went you could get a 3 day pass for the ferries and buses.

Bus stops in Bermuda have different coloured poles, blue and pink. Stops with blue poles mean the bus is heading away from Hamilton and pink poles mean bus heading towards Hamilton. The bus stop is only a minute walk from the ship's dock as are the taxis. Another minute or so will take you to the shops etc at the Dockyard at King's Wharf. The ferries leave just a few minutes walk from where the ship docks.

  3. Any dress code or dress suggestions for an Oct transatlantic crossing on the Silhouette?

We did the Silhouette's November transatlantic last November from Rome to Fort Lauderdale. At times it was so hot on the port side of the ship that it was impossible for us to use our port side balcony in the afternoon. We wore shorts for the sea days between Tenerife and Fort Lauderdale. The weather was lovely. From what I read on cruise critic the weather was also very good the year before. So as others have said bring a variety of clothing including clothes for warm weather as the route from Tenerife to Fort Lauderdale is quite far south.

  4. Looking at Fall TA and what cabin recommendations for port? Starboard?

For most use of balcony ( depending on weather of course)

    Thanks for any help!

We did Silhouette's November 2016 Transatlantic. It was the southern route from Rome to Fort Lauderdale. We had a port side balcony cabin midship deck 9. Some afternoons it was so hot we could not sit on the balcony and resorted to deck 5 outside chairs on the starboard side. On deck 14 at the Mast Grill it was also boiling hot. Now we come from Scotland and as such probably have difficulty with too much heat. If you like heat, then port is the best side for a fall transatlantic. The weather was brilliant though.

If doing the crossing from Southampton to Miami then weather might be much different as this is a more northerly crossing.

  5. No cans of soda on Classic Package anymore. If a ship is still doing it then it is an anomaly. By September I'm sure all ships will be implementing the new policy. Reports I've heard are one receives a fountain drink unless that flavor isn't available in which case they will open a can and pour you a glass. If you want a can you will pay full price. Celebrity, as of this moment, is allowing cans of soda to be brought on board.

Have just returned from Silhouette transatlantic. We got cans of soda every day from the bar in the Oceanview using our Classic Beverage package. There was no problem whatsoever. The bottled water on the package was also fine. It did not make us ill. Anything on the Premium package could also be bought by just paying the difference plus the 18% gratuity.

  6. Hello All

For the first time we have booked cruise only and plan to arrange our own flights transatlantic to Miami to pick up our cruise on Eclipse.

    My question is two-fold :-

Would anyone be able to point me toward the best position to search for a hotel in Miami - i.e centre, airport, port please and have you any recommendations please?

Would it be better to plan for 2 nights pre cruise to allow for any potential problems with flight delays, connections etc?. The flight we would select is scheduled to arrive Miami at 8.30pm the local time.

I hope you can help and many apologies if this has been asked before many times :o

    Many Thanks

This is our third time flying to Miami for a cruise. We always fly out 2 days before . This way we feel a little more secure in case our luggage doesn't arrive with us. We stay at the Hampton Inn at Brickell Downtown. This is a nice safe area where you can walk around. There are many restaurants nearby and the hotel is very nice. They have a very good free breakfast and you get a complimentary voucher for a drink at night. The Mary Brickell Village is a lovely area to visit. The Metro Mover is also close by but we have never used it. We take a cab from the airport on arrival . The hotel has a shuttle to the port and it's not too far away. As you say you will be arriving in Miami quite late the Sports Bar next to the hotel would give you somewhere to eat without venturing too far on your arrival night.

  7. I know that only USA and Canada can order luggage tags online. But I thought that others would have E-Doc and near the end would have luggage tags that you can print. Does the UK get E-Doc's?

Yes we do. We just print the labels from the edocs, cut them out and put them in the Amazon holders. Have used this method for our last two cruises with no problems at all.

  8. And how do we know they didn't upgrade the fountains to have more choices?

Well I'm on Silhouette's TA in 13 days so I don't have long to wait to find out. Why doesn't Celebrity let us know if they have upgraded the fountains with a reasonable selection of sodas . That at least would answer one question.

  9. I agree, the whole "sale" is a marketing ploy.

The Classic Beverage Package has been reduced from the £45.10 per person per day that I paid in January to £36.08 per person per day. Great, you'd think. But the service charge has gone up so much that the total cost for 15 days is now £1.50 more expensive. Ouch!!

For us this is quite a bargain. We are on Silhouette's April TA with 10 sea days. We would normally buy the non alcoholic package as we drink a fair amount of coffee, water and sodas. However as this package is not discounted we have bought the discounted classic alcohol package this time. We worked it out that we were paying $20 more per night. That to us is a good deal for wine, cocktails, beer which we would have bought anyway. Without the discount the two packages were $18 and $55 without the grats. We paid $38.50 for the discounted package. We are not heavy drinkers and the sea days allows us to have some wine and cocktails spread out throughout the day. Even as Elite, we feel the '3 free drinks' should be allowed to be taken at anytime during the day and not just between 5 and 7.

  10. Ditto ...

We did take the train once ... never again ... it was hot, extremely crowded, nowhere to put luggage except in the aisles and on our laps ... very long walk out of the station ... Fortunately we had the Two Lads with us, otherwise would never have made it work ...

If using the train be very careful about thieves. A couple due to sail on our November Silhouette last year had the lady's bag stolen and she lost passport, money etc. From what I remember someone dropped something in front of her and when she courteously bent down to pick it up, a thief stole her bag. I think it was two people working together. The upshot was I don't think she made the cruise due to her passport being stolen. I don't know if she was able to board at a different port or not.

  11. 1). can someone please give me advice on private shuttles from Fiumicino airport to and from the port please.

2). I'm sailing with Celebrity. Do you know if they have a shuttle on day of departure you can purchase on board.

    Thank you.

We used Rome Cabs last November's Silhouette Transatlantic from hotel in Fiumicino to a hotel in Civitavecchia the day before the cruise. As far as I'm aware they do private transfers from the airport to the port as well. Very easy and friendly to deal with.

  12. We have a 2 night layover staying at the Hampton Inn Brickell post cruise.

Have never been in city proper as tourist, and looking for recommendations for thinks to do.....................

    Hop/Hop off

    Trolley tours

    Shopping

    Restaurants not to miss

    etc

We've stayed twice in this hotel. The Mary Brickell Village area has lots of restaurants and is a nice place to visit. We didn't do any Hop on/ Hop off but it looked as if there were plenty available . The Metro Mover isn't far from the hotel. Really enjoyed the hotel and staying again before next cruise in April.

  13. I have placed a courtesy hold on a cabin through my phone App. It defaults as if I am American and the cost is in dollars. I then contact Celebrity to confirm my booking. I have used it primarily when I wanted to change cabins to a more preferable one.

I've put the app on my iPhone and as you said it defaults to the .com website and does have a courtesy hold function. However each cabin grade only gives me a choice of 5 cabins and I can't find anywhere where it shows all the cabins available or somewhere for me to input the cabin I want to hold. Probably just me but thanks for the help anyway.

  14. Is it no longer possible for people from the UK to use the .com website to place a 24 hour hold on a cabin. Every time I try to search for a cruise on the .com website, I get bounced back to the co.uk website where this is not possible.

  15. Can anyone recommend a hotel to stay for one night post cruise? Our flight is not until 6pm following day of disembarkation - looking for somewhere near to the cruise terminal. So far everything I have found either has no bar/restaurant or has nothing around the area or is in a bad area (according to reviews)

    Thanks in advance

We've stayed twice at the Hampton Inn at Brickell. Good hotel, excellent free breakfast and good area for eating out at night. There are restaurants close by and even one next door to the hotel. The area is very safe to walk about in. It is rated very highly on Trip Advisor. The last time I looked it was number one in Miami.

  16. Thank you for the information.

I am not sure about what to wear to the different eating venues, daytime and evening. Or just to wear onboard. For example, I don't want to wear summer maxi dress if no one else will be wearing these types of clothes.

We're on the same cruise as you and your husband. For evening smart casual wear, I will be wearing trousers and mainly short sleeve tops and for evening chic possible a dress or long skirt again mainly with short sleeve top. My husband will have short sleeve shirts on for most nights and long sleeve shirts for evening chic with a jacket. We very seldom wear long sleeve tops at any time but then again we're from Scotland . We will be wearing T shirts during the day with a light fleece top or jacket depending on the weather and hopefully shorts once we leave Tenerife. We've done two spring transatlantic and found what people wear depends a lot on where they come from. If you come from an area with a mainly warm/ hot climate then Europe in November may be a bit cold for you but as I said we're from Scotland so cold is not a problem for us.

Just come with layers as inside the ship will be comfortable even if you wear your summer maxi dress.

  17. My wife and I are on Equinox in November and starting to plan dinners. We like to dress up and will miss Formal night. I wanted to get any opinions on which dining venue may be best on Chic Night if we decide to go Formal with Tux and Dress. Luminae, Blue, Main or one of the specialty restaurants?

You will be perfectly fine in formal attire wherever you eat. Even though the dress code is 'evening chic' we saw people in formal attire on both our April TA from Miami and the following Norwegian Fjords cruise. If you like to dress up go for it. You will not be the only ones.

  18. Breakfast is the best meal not to miss...isn't it? Don't they travel around bad weather? Haven't done it yet, but plan to on April 22, 2017[emoji41]

Eclipse TA from Miami to Southampton April this year was due to stop in Nassau, Bermuda and Lisbon with the stop in Bermuda being an overnight. A bad storm around the Bermuda area led the captain to cancel that port stop. The stop date for Lisbon was changed( causing some consternation for those with private tours) and Le Havre ( for Paris) was added. Also a sick passenger also led to a detour to Ponta Delgado in the Azores for a medical evacuation.

Some passengers were upset about missing Bermuda and there were mixed feelings about the stop in Le Havre with many Americans happy to get the chance to go to Paris or the Normandy beaches and some Brits wishing the extra day had been added onto Lisbon. So yes as with any cruise the captain will always take passenger safety into account first. It was a great cruise despite all this with mostly very good weather. You just have to be flexible and be aware weather not the cruise line is in charge.

  19. We're planning on going full comfort/casual for the doldrums of check in and boarding. However we'd like to go to lunch and wouldn't want to get kicked out of lunch for wearing a t-shirt in the MDR.

Anyone have a definitive fact on if there will be a dress code enforced for Concierge departure lunch?

We've been to 2 CC embarkation lunches. On the first one at the start of our B2B we wore the casual clothes we came onto the ship with i.e. jeans and polo shirt. On our change over day we wore shorts and polo shirts. There was no problem whatsoever and the majority of the people at the lunch were dressed very casually. There was no enforced dress code. Would have been impossible to do anyway as people did not have their luggage. Enjoy your lunch, saves queuing at the buffet for a table.

  20. I see from the gifts by celebrity on the Celebrity UK website that the shipboard $25 credit price has increased from £17.30 to £18.80.

It was just a matter of time before the exchange rate was looked at, hopefully the exchange rate recovers for us on this side of the pond.

Yes I looked at it as well and saw the cost had increased. I can't imagine the exchange rate getting significantly better in the foreseeable future with everything that's happening over here at the moment but then again we can but hope.
