  1. You may not take this advice but in Alaska the best veranda cabins are in the aft. While heading up the inside passage, celebrity has a great naturalist on board Brent Nixon. He gives a running account as you go along the passage. There may be sights such as wildlife that you may not see on one side and may not be there on the way back.

Be aware that while the view from the aft cabins on the solstice class ships is excellent, these cabins are very exposed to the elements.

  3. We are doing a back to back cruise in and out of Fort Lauderdale and have the same cabin for both weeks. We are thinking of upgrading to a different cabin for the first week and will be keeping the original one for the second week. What will this entail with regards change over day i.e. will we have to fully pack and disembark or would our second week cabin be ready to move into. How does this work with regards luggage?

Has anyone any recent experience of this.

    Many Thanks

    Steve and Ann

We did a B2B with Eclipse Transatlantic followed by the Norwegian Fjords . We moved cabins. We packed everything except our hanging clothes. The stewards moved the clothes for us . It wasn't a big deal changing cabins but looking back I wish we had the same cabin for both legs. Nothing to do at all then no packing or unpacking at all. Also if you do decide to move try to arrange for access to the safe in your second cabin. It saves trailing the contents about with you.

  4. If we add on flights with Celebrity for our Alaska cruisetour, I understand we will fly in a day earlier from the UK and get put up in a hotel overnight - does anyone know which hotel this is likely to be?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

We have used flights from Celebrity to the US twice but we've always flown in two days earlier as an added safeguard against luggage not making it. We've also done our own hotels instead of the ones Celebrity offered but you could use their hotels as well. It's just two much of a worth about luggage not making it with us on a transatlantic flight and an extra day also helps us with the jet lag and also picking up our two bottles of wine.

  5. Hi sorry to ask questions already been asked but after a dozen cruises on P & O and Princess we are giving the Eclipse a go from Southampton and have 2 questions

    1) We have a drinks package included BUT both of us are tee total can we get drinks like Coke Tonic water & lime etc under this package

    2) Now evening chic just what do they mean by that is it Dress suits with bow ties suits and ties or jacket (& trousers) no tie

    Sorry to be mundane

We did the Eclipse April Transatlantic followed by the Norwegian Fjords. Evening Chic means different things to different people. Some men wore dinner jackets with bow ties. Some wore suits with shirt and tie. Some wore jackets or blazers with shirt, either with or without tie. Some wore shirts with no blazer. Women had the same range from long evening dresses to trousers with dressy top. We did find less dinner suits and evening dress than in the past. My husband was very happy with the fact he could wear a blazer with a shirt but no tie. I either wore a mid length skirt or trousers with a dressy top. We did find however that the Fjord cruise from Southampton was a bit more dressy than the TA before it but again quite a range of dress for Evening Chic nights.

Someone else maybe able to help with your drink question better them me as we tended to use the alcohol package.

We have also cruised on P and O and Princess but now are Celebrity converts . The Eclipse is a beautiful ship . We have now sailed on her 4 times and would not hesitate to sail again.

  6. I just left this cabin. I don't want to post personal pics but will send them privately to you. Not sure how to do that on this forum? I might need your email address. It's a nice cabin with a large balcony. Three of us with more than enough storage space.

Could I also ask if this balcony on the Infinity has a canvas cover above it to give some sun/ rain protection or is the balcony completely open to the elements.

  7. Just back from Solstice recently.

As everyone says - layers and expect the unexpected.

Our day in Skagway (Grizzly Falls zipwire) we were layered up but were far too warm.

No sunbathing though - swimwear for spa and solarium only.

I was glad I packed my walking boots - (you know the green outdoor type). For sure did not need shorts or many t-shirts.

I was also glad of my woolley bunnet on the catamaran - saw others trying to wrap scarves around their heads.

We bought couple of warm pieces on board - they had ridiculously cheap outerwear which came in handy.

This isn't a weather question as like yourself we're from Scotland and are used to cold/wet weather and the type of clothing needed. Could you tell me what the procedure was for Victoria regarding passports and how long it took to get off the ship. We're not going till next May but we have much longer in Victoria arriving at noon and are thinking of a private tour.

  8. What about the "municipal bylaws that expressly forbids deck chair saving, sharing drink packages, violation of dress code, saving seats in the theater, etc? Anybody who complains about people ignoring these are chastised and called whiners. Hence people who complain about smokers violating the "municipal bylaws" automatically qualify as whiners. You shouldn't have a choice on which ones you abide by and which ones you ignore.

Smoking isn't illegal and there is no proof that periodic short exposures to second hand smoke causes health issues.

    I am not a smoker.

That's one of the most ridiculous comments I've read yet . Smoking on board a ship should be stringently controlled. Other people's safety is not compromised by violation of your other so called 'municipal bylaws' and many people find exposure to second hand smoke very unpleasant. I'm sure if I set my mind to it I could find many other ways to behave that are not illegal but others might find unpleasant but as a reasonable person I would not want to make people around me uncomfortable. So yes I would qualify as one of your 'whiners'.

  9. Who is the current captain of the celebrity eclipse? How long is the captains contract for? Sailed on celebrity on numerous occasions and have never had the same captain twice?

Captain Michael Sympouras on the TA and Norwegian Fjords last month.

  10. The beige towels previously supplied are no longer and should you need a pool towel or a beach towel collect them from the pool. They are now blue/grey

Same here. Did the TA followed by Norwegian Fjords this past April on Eclipse. Only saw grey/blue towels but there were loads of them up on the pool deck. Also tartan blankets if the weather is a bit colder.

  11. I went to google, lol. There I found someone had posted this:

Smoking areas on the S-class ship Reflection:

Deck 15 (Lawn Club Deck aft) – Port (left)-side only – outside at the Sunset Bar – This is the area where Cigar & Pipe smoking is permitted

Deck 15 (Lawn Club Deck forward/mid-ship) – Starboard (right)-side only – outside at the Mast Bar

Deck 14 (Lido Deck) – Port (left)-side only – outside next to the Pool Bar

.Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck mid-ship) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the mid-ship elevators

Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck forward) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the forward elevators/Theatre

So will the smoke from the mid-ship elevator area float up and back to our balconies? What do you think?

We had a deck 9 port side balcony on the aft slanted side of the back hump on the Norwegian Fjords cruise on Eclipse this past April and I was able to smell smoke a couple of times from even that high up. I suppose it depends how the wind is blowing but personally I wouldn't take a chance with a port balcony on deck 7 anywhere near the smoking areas as we use our balcony a lot and smelling smoke would ruin it for us. It was also quite cold so there didn't seem a lot of people outside on deck 5. It might even be worse if it was a warmer cruise with more people outside.

  12. Hi GHStudio, hope you are having a great cruise.

I have a quick question. As the Eclipse is now home-ported out of Southampton for the summer, are the "always available" left hand side of the dinner menu items in the MDR still salmon, chicken and NY strip stake, or do they have more of an english twist to them? Perhaps a curry or bangers and mash....I can dream, can't I?!!

The 'always available' were not on the left hand page of the menu when we did our recent TA and Fjords on Eclipse. They were on the same right hand page as the menu for the day. If I remember correctly the left hand page just had drinks/wine on it. The 'always available' were displayed inside a square to separate them from the menu for the day. No bangers and mash but I do recall steak, escargot, chicken, french onion soup, creme brûlée.

  13. Will be very interested in how people dress on a Chic night given the higher number of Brits onboard.

We're just back from the TA and Fjords B2B. We did notice there were less dinner suits and long dresses on the TA. There were more on the Fjords cruise and again there were more British people on it. There were also men with suits, blazers with trousers, shirts and ties, blazers with trousers, shirts and no ties, and men without any jackets. Ladies wear ranged from long dresses, cocktail dresses and many with dark trousers and dressy tops. My husband wore black trousers, shirt with no tie and a blazer. I varied between longish skirt and dressy top and wide trousers and dressy top. We both felt quite at ease wearing this.

  14. Oh lucky you!!!! That's a dream trip for me - we wont get that kinda time out until we retire and that's a way off yet - I would love to do what you are doing - one day!!

Thanks for the sunscreen tip - you are dead right - I didn't think on that!

Have you been to Seattle before? How did you find that if you have?

We haven't been to a Seattle. We did fly into Seattle for a Washington and Oregon trip one year. We only got as far as Olympic National Park as our grandson was born 8 weeks early so we flew home after 4 days. We had intended going to Olympic NP, Mt Rainier NP, Mt St Helens and Crater Lake NP. As you can see we really like the US National Parks. Sorry I can't help with Seattle but I'm sure many others can.

So excited for this trip! We are usually pretty much"stay on the ship been there done that" in all Europe, Med, Caribbean and TA cruises. We love ship life and the ship is usually our destination. Not this time - Seattle for 3 days which we are just bursting with excitement over - and then - Alaska - and we will be off the ship every single port and have already booked some shorex.

We unfortunately could not take more time out from our business to do a longer cruise - but every five years we take time off on our anniversary and do a bucket list check - this is one of them :)

    Getting closer!!!!!!!!

    .

We're booked for Alaska May 2017. Not bothered at all about the cold. As you say we're Scots. We are however adding a 2 week land trip in what is our favourite part of the US, Arizona and Utah so we'll get both cold and hot.

Enjoy Alaska, just remember sunscreen if you're glacier viewing. We ended up with bright red faces after spending a morning on deck sailing through the Hubbard one time.

  16. On the 12 day British Isles Cruise and having done most of the ports of call on Princess about ten years ago I know that the cruise ships dock in the heart of a pretty major industrial port and surrounded by containers and a nasty/dangerous/LONG walk out. Stops at Le Harve, Dublin, Dover and depending on whether they dock right downtown at Glasgow or not, need a shuttle, do they have one and is it free?

    Anyone know?

They did at Rome (Chitvennnssr... what ever)

The ship will dock at Greenock which is about 25 miles from Glasgow.

  17. It's a couple of years since we last sailed Celebrity so things might have changed, hence the question.

In the past, we've received a pre-cruise summary brochure with luggage tags. Not sure if it was electronic last time or not. This time we sail in 5 weeks and haven't had anything. Maybe I can download it but I've checked on line and it isn't visible to my feeble, old eyes and fat internet fingers.

    What am I missing?

    cheers.

    .

Luggage tag holders that fit the printed labels from your guest documents can be bought from Amazon. There is a pack of 8 that specifically fit Celebrity and RCCL luggage labels.

  18. Tried that but they are not showing in My Celebrity.

Just received an email from Celebrity with edocs. Hope yours turn up soon as our cruise is 5 days after yours. Ours are also available through my celebrity. We booked directly with Celebrity so I don't know if that makes a difference.

    Sandra

  19. When should I expect to receive e docs? We are sailing on Reflection out of Rome on 25 April.

Was wondering when we'd get our edocs for 30 April sailing but if you don't have yours yet I guess we'll be a while yet. In case you didn't know you can't order luggage labels anymore if you live in the UK. We had to print ours from the edocs booklet for our TA on 17 April. We did however buy the cruise luggage tag holders from Amazon. They have a set of 8 specifically to fit Celebrity and RCCL luggage labels.

  20. Just letting everyone know that Jordan Peterson is currently on the Eclipse. He will be on there until April 30th, 2016. He is currently working on becoming a guest entertainer!

You can always follow what he is doing on his website:

    www.JordanPetersonMusic.com

That's great. Jordan will be on Eclipse TA in April. We saw him on Summit in June 2013. Really looking forward to his shows on Eclipse TA.

  21. Same here. Ordered online three times then emailed captains club. They replied that there was a supplier problem in the UK and they would get them sent to me. They never came. This was in December/ January and since then I have read that they are not available to UK customers any more. Yes I can and did print my own but for goodness sake Celebrity just stop messing us about !

Same for us. Received our e-docs for our upcoming TA. Couldn't

order from manage my booking so phoned Celebrity UK but was told they are not available for us Brits. I thought this might happen so I ordered the holders from Amazon and will just print the ones from the e-docs and put them into the holders. I agree though , we should be able to get luggage labels.

  22. Hi, We have a cruise booked in October and the price has fallen £500 since booking, it,s the first leg of btb cruises and we have the same cabin booked for both cruises. Would it be worth calling celebrity to re book at the same price? Sorry if it,s a stupid question but I have not seen such a reduction on any cruises we have taken before.

Thanks for any replies in advance.

We actually changed cabins for both legs of our B2B and also changed categories. It's my understanding that you would be able to change cabins and get the benefit of the price drop but I don't know about keeping the same cabin.

If the offer you booked on initially has changed then you would have to cancel, loose deposit and rebook but I don't think a price drop counts as a change of offer. It depends on how important it is to you to be in the same cabin for both cruises. We would have liked to be in the same cabin but it wasn't possible. I'm assured by many that changing cabins is not a problem.

  23. My DH and I are looking at a transatlantic cruise on the Eclipse and would like to disembark in Lisbon rather than Southampton. Would this be possible and would we be able to book a flight through choice air. Thank you for your advise.

Immigration might be an issue here as Lisbon would be your point of entry into Europe. While travel within Europe is border control free, you have to clear immigration at external borders which in this case would be Lisbon. On last year's TA immigration officers boarded the ship and cleared everyone before the ship reached Southampton. I don't know if they would be onboard before you disembarked.

  24. While it is obviously the correct way to handle it by notifying RCCL its not like you need their "permission" you aren't a hostage and frankly there is nothing they can do to keep you from packing your suitcase and walking off in any port. Again notifying them is the right procedure but I wouldn't call it "asking permission"

I would tend to disagree here. You just can't walk off a ship whenever you like. Countries have immigration laws and rules.
